Chad, suggestion: get your label maker out and labels those under-bay alarms, so if you have to recharge or change batteries, you know where they go. Also I would put three cameras on the outside to see in your blind spots if people are outside at night. We did this first. Amazing who/what walks up or around your rig at night.
Very interesting to learn how you use Ring in your RV. Over here in Europe we have smaller rigs, but still with similar requirements. We soon will receive our new rig, a 26.6' class A, and I already have lined it up for a few additions (i.e. alarm system, hydraulic leveling system etc.). I love this ring system. We added sensors to our propane storage locker because someone walked off with one of our tanks. This time we will know also, the smoke alarms work awesome.
Wow what a timely video I just got done setting up our second ring system in my daughters RV. I think these are an amazing value and we did the Ring pro for the fact you can have an SD card process all your videos on site and save on data. And I love that it has a second cellular backup as well as battery backup so you just get more redundancy. And the flood and freeze sensors work great, I had one this winter when I knew that our little heat lamp could not keep the basement warm enough. I ended up winterizing the RV with antifreeze rather than risk it when we had that big cold snap. I also love we put an outside camera up also and an inside camera so when the dogs are left alone we know they're okay and who doesn't like checking on your RV when you're not there to know if somebody is messing around.

Always love your videos Chad and Tara. I just ordered some leak detectors, but got some that are Apple HomeKit enabled, along with a water spigot shut off, which is also Apple HomeKit enabled. My HOPE is that with an Automation, in addition to getting alerts, that a leak detection could just shut off the water outside within a second or two. I put off getting it because we shut off the water when we leave for the day, but really, if a leak happens at night, with or without a leak detection, it'll take a bit to realize what's going on and take action. If we happen to forget to turn off water before leaving, we can via the phone. And if there is a leak, the system should just turn off the water at the source pretty quickly. Ring was awesome before they were bought out by you know who. When they were a small company they were amazing. I was so frustrated with Ring that I literally ripped my doorbell off the front of my house with my bare hands and smashed it. The only way you can ever get anyone on the phone if you have a technical issue is, well there is no way. The only way you can get anyone on the phone is if you hit the option for sales and then you get somebody immediately. i’m so glad I went with a different company and I will never look back and I will never endorse or buy any ring product ever again. That’s how frustrated I was with them They’re amazing until you buy their product. After the sale, good luck. All I can say from personal experience is if you need support after the sale, good luck
Great video. I have Ring in our class A. In the process of putting contact sensors on the cargo bay doors. In combination with an Echo Dot, I’ve programmed a routine in where it will say “cargo bay 3 is still open” after whatever time I want (10 minutes). Kinda crude programming wise but it works.
Great video! I couldn't help but notice that amazing office space with standing desks and those monitors!!! 🤤 I did the same system setup using Abode, mostly due to the wide array of compatible sensors and the ability to self monitor. Good stuff man!

I put a Ring alarm system in my Fifth wheel as well and I love it. One thing I did was I wired the base station and key pad to a 12 volt to 5 volt DC to DC converter so I don’t I need 120 volt AC to run it. We dry camp a lot and try to minimize inverter use for efficiency reasons. My internet is a Pepwave 5G and it is hard wired to 12 volt.
Clipping comments for a follow-up short and I thought of a drawback to hard-wiring DC power: You won't get notified if power goes out and 120V items (like the AC) shut off... Not a huge deal if you don't have pets, but something to consider.. 👍🏼
@@ChangingLanes We don’t travel with pets and don’t really have anything running on 120V when we aren’t in the camper. You have me thinking though, how can I make the Ring alarm system sense an AC power loss, there must be a way to hack that problem, LOL.

I have been camping for many years.. I just solved my security problem….. I sold my travel trailer.. Camping has changed…for the bad… Camp grounds too full and too expensive… and too many bad people wandering around inside camp grounds. Then with the price of fuel and insurance costs and stress of towing… I came to realize and have concluded Drive to where you want to go and get a hotel room. I am looking forward to my first non camping trip and I have a hell of a lot less Work preparation time before we leave.
What about the doorbell moving to flush mount on the slide? You could have better view (with 155 degree viewing angle) and possibly move that invisible barrier off the rv a little more. And by invisible barrier, I mean that arc of personal space to house ratio. Where are you push the doorbell and step back a little bit? If that makes sense.

Nice set up Chad, my class C is 34 foot bumper to bumper so that being said it’s not even has big as your rig. We don’t have Wi-Fi but only cellular. I’ve already got alarm “puck’s “ everywhere water would be an issue but need something solely for the coach door and my big basement storage. I want what you got but a little less considering the size and need comparison of our rigs.
Just add in also I think the Ring pro is a better unit than the regular ring system, because you can have an SD card with your videos and then I think the total cost for us to do the Ring pro is about 20 bucks a month which I think is worth it.
@@ChangingLanes I'm not sure which part you're saying is wired. The only difference in our pro station is the actual Base station. All of the accessories including keypads door sensors or wireless just like the regular one. If you are meaning just the base station, I understand if you don't have a pep Wave or a hotspot with an Ethernet port that could be an issue. But the device does come with backup AT&t cellular Wi-Fi that you get 3 GB a month included in your protect monitoring. And you could always plug it into an ethernet Wi-Fi adapter.
my husband and I are looking to upgrade from a travel trailer to a fifth wheel so we are going g to the hershey rv show. Will you be at the show? We also have found your videos really helpful from all the products you have should that you use to the rv parks you have stayed. We will be trying the wild duck campround.
Use Ring items, they work at times. Big issue: Delay in reporting motion, too long of a delay in posting new-event video, etc.. (Aware of paying hundreds of dollars more; for a local recording Ring-add-on box ). Another delay consideration might be due to iOS device sleeping, (not forwarding to us; at times, new incoming alerts).
We've now had ring on two RVs and a cabin. We always get alerts within seconds of events. You might try contacting Ring support to see if they have any suggestions...

Really appreciate your detailed installation of this setup Chad. Question about the sensors used for monitoring for leaks. Were they placed without being secured to the floor? Looked like you just laid them loose in the area to be monitored?
I gorilla taped down the basement sensor since that's behind a wall. The ones under the sinks are being held in by all of the other stuff (trash cans, etc). The toilet ones are easy to maintain.. 👍🏼 Hope that helps!
I worry about the door bell being on the actual door. I would like to see it mounted on something stationary. Not only worried about the mounting holding up but the camera frame moving when you open the door.

As much information as they say they are collecting from people with their digital devices it seems counter productive to use it for your safety and security but have the chance that big data could basically track your every move with all these sensors and it being linked to your mobile device that you carry on you. I would feel more comfortable with all the sensors being wired and there be less need for battery or recharging. Is there software open source and can you see the system log for the devices that run Linux with a graphical user interface that doesn't show the processes in the background "Computer Code" like the main unit and the sensors? Open source phones are becoming more popular because the phones from the phone companies are locked down, denying access to you if you want to see the background data in code and the processes that the device is doing!
On my home ring system the only thing I need Wi-Fi 4 is for the cameras And the doorbell. Because everything else the actual system runs off of a phone number that's attached to the base. Is that the way it is with your units.
I secured the basement sensor with gorilla tape. The sink sensors are held in place by the simple fact those areas are full of other "stuff". The toilet ones are easy to see if they slide out from behind the toilet. 👍🏼
I have two Nest cameras linked to the Nest Aware system. The last time I used them, I exceed the Starlink data plan. Do you know if the Ring system uses a lot of data?
Ask me again in a month.. But, for the 5 days I've collected data in the pepwave for Feb, the sitck-up cam used about 90MB. But, that extrapolates out to about 540MB/mo. Not much. I'd imagine most of that is us watching daisy.. LOL
This may be a stupid question but I see you have the ring security at the cabin and the RV-do you have it set up as 2 distinct systems or adding the devices on the same app?
I live alone and my neighbors all kind of keep an eye on me, but the other night I had 15 police officers combing through the bushes under my front window that I had been sitting by. They kept asking me if I had heard any gunshots. WTF????? LMAO! I used to live on a ranch that doubled as a hunting club in the fall and winter, so I know what gunshots sound like. I kept telling them that I didn't hear anything. I was literally sitting in front of the window the whole time. Not sure what the hell happened, but they eventually left. Then they came back with EMT's. They parked in front of my place, but then went down the stairs at the back where there was a whole other level. I am thinking I might like to get one of these.
I am about to install Ring on our fifth wheel. Why did you choose to permanently mount your Ring doorbell vs. Velcro? How are the screws holding up? Did you use anything to waterproof the screw holes? Thanks, great video!
I just wanted to try it so it's one less thing to mount when setting up. I completely spaced on the screws and will be putting some silicone behind the screws today. 👍🏼
Thanks Chad & Tara for another awesome video. Question regarding the install of the ring camera. Would it be a good idea to have a rubber gasket at the back of housing to prevent water intrusion? I am sure this ring camera install would void the warranty, just not sure if just the door or entire RV.
Have you had any issues with the smoke\CO sensors? We are currently working with on our 3rd attempt to add them. We have been able to add them to the Ring network but when testing they do not send any notifications through the Ring app. When we attempt to remove it and add it back to the the Ring app, Ring shows that the sensor needs to be factory reset. Attempted to do a factory reset on the sensor with no luck. Contacted the vendor and their response was to send us a new one, so going to attempt install number 4. Just curious if you have had any issues with them.

Crucial step missing….where does the connectivity come from. I use cellular data in my phone for our internet but I take my phone with me when I leave the rv…
With the wedge, it can already see the side of the RV and an open view forward. A slide mount would only improve the angle by a few degrees by adding some distance from the side.
Are you able to monitor your cabin ring cameras and your RV ring cameras on the same ring account? Just confirming that I don't need to set up a separate account.
You do need internet. I could have been more clear about that.. 😳 Starlink is the best option when remote boondocking with no cell.. We'll have a new internet video out in a few months.
It is! At least until it detects a leak and saves me days of work recovering from water damage... or saves our lives with an early warning from a basement fire... 😳

You could just buy a base staton and single contact sensor... But there are likely even simpler solutions.

The big problem with the PRO is that it needs to be wired, which is a huge undertaking on an RV door or exterior wall.....

Really appreciate your detailed installation of this setup Chad. Question about the sensors used for monitoring for leaks. Were they placed without being secured to the floor? Looked like you just laid them loose in the area to be monitored?
I gorilla taped down the basement sensor since that's behind a wall. The ones under the sinks are being held in by all of the other stuff (trash cans, etc). The toilet ones are easy to maintain.. 👍🏼 Hope that helps!

I worry about the door bell being on the actual door. I would like to see it mounted on something stationary. Not only worried about the mounting holding up but the camera frame moving when you open the door.

As much information as they say they are collecting from people with their digital devices it seems counter productive to use it for your safety and security but have the chance that big data could basically track your every move with all these sensors and it being linked to your mobile device that you carry on you. I would feel more comfortable with all the sensors being wired and there be less need for battery or recharging. Is there software open source and can you see the system log for the devices that run Linux with a graphical user interface that doesn't show the processes in the background "Computer Code" like the main unit and the sensors? Open source phones are becoming more popular because the phones from the phone companies are locked down, denying access to you if you want to see the background data in code and the processes that the device is doing!
On my home ring system the only thing I need Wi-Fi 4 is for the cameras And the doorbell. Because everything else the actual system runs off of a phone number that's attached to the base. Is that the way it is with your units.

I secured the basement sensor with gorilla tape. The sink sensors are held in place by the simple fact those areas are full of other "stuff". The toilet ones are easy to see if they slide out from behind the toilet. 👍🏼

I have two Nest cameras linked to the Nest Aware system. The last time I used them, I exceed the Starlink data plan. Do you know if the Ring system uses a lot of data?
Ask me again in a month.. But, for the 5 days I've collected data in the pepwave for Feb, the sitck-up cam used about 90MB. But, that extrapolates out to about 540MB/mo. Not much. I'd imagine most of that is us watching daisy.. LOL

This may be a stupid question but I see you have the ring security at the cabin and the RV-do you have it set up as 2 distinct systems or adding the devices on the same app?
I live alone and my neighbors all kind of keep an eye on me, but the other night I had 15 police officers combing through the bushes under my front window that I had been sitting by. They kept asking me if I had heard any gunshots. WTF????? LMAO! I used to live on a ranch that doubled as a hunting club in the fall and winter, so I know what gunshots sound like. I kept telling them that I didn't hear anything. I was literally sitting in front of the window the whole time. Not sure what the hell happened, but they eventually left. Then they came back with EMT's. They parked in front of my place, but then went down the stairs at the back where there was a whole other level. I am thinking I might like to get one of these.

I am about to install Ring on our fifth wheel. Why did you choose to permanently mount your Ring doorbell vs. Velcro? How are the screws holding up? Did you use anything to waterproof the screw holes? Thanks, great video!
I just wanted to try it so it's one less thing to mount when setting up. I completely spaced on the screws and will be putting some silicone behind the screws today. 👍🏼
Thanks Chad & Tara for another awesome video. Question regarding the install of the ring camera. Would it be a good idea to have a rubber gasket at the back of housing to prevent water intrusion? I am sure this ring camera install would void the warranty, just not sure if just the door or entire RV.
I will be putting some silicone in the holes... That should suffice.
Have you had any issues with the smoke\CO sensors? We are currently working with on our 3rd attempt to add them. We have been able to add them to the Ring network but when testing they do not send any notifications through the Ring app. When we attempt to remove it and add it back to the the Ring app, Ring shows that the sensor needs to be factory reset. Attempted to do a factory reset on the sensor with no luck. Contacted the vendor and their response was to send us a new one, so going to attempt install number 4. Just curious if you have had any issues with them.

Crucial step missing….where does the connectivity come from. I use cellular data in my phone for our internet but I take my phone with me when I leave the rv…

If you would have installed the doorbell camera on the front of the slide you would have a much better view.
With the wedge, it can already see the side of the RV and an open view forward. A slide mount would only improve the angle by a few degrees by adding some distance from the side.
Are you able to monitor your cabin ring cameras and your RV ring cameras on the same ring account? Just confirming that I don't need to set up a separate account.

The "listener" is for non-connected alarms. These are connected directly and no listener is necessary.

You do need internet. I could have been more clear about that.. 😳 Starlink is the best option when remote boondocking with no cell.. We'll have a new internet video out in a few months.
