McGuirk is insane & dumb but has the personality of a genius. A somewhat psychopathic genius but still. He's analytical & pragmatic, at least in regards to intent, even if a lot of his choices are bad. He's the type to fail, not because he panicked, did nothing, or didn't read someone but because he very determinedly made the wrong choice. Plus he was very right for pretty much this entire scene.
That's kinda just how Zach and his friends improv though, if you go back through the troves of Oney Plays and Sleepy Cabin. Not saying they weren't influenced by this show, but I don't think they were trying to replicate anything.
