Eurylochus did not throw his torch to another person to get rid of it, he threw it to them to go help another crewmember. Then when he fails to save him, he realizes that the heads had only taken men with torches. He then turns and tries to run back to the man who had had inadvertently doomed, but too late. Eurylochus inadvertently dooming his men is a common theme. The tragedy!
I’ve never heared Scylla’s line “Die in the blood where you bathe” be talked about and I find it so insane. It kinda cements the whole idea of Odysseus and his crew turning more ruthless and killing peopke with less guilt after they left the Underworld
Every line from Scylla is very telling of how selfish Odysseus has become in his journey and how he is going to have to live with that for the rest of his life while the rest of his crew die horribly
Just a fun fact: In the Odyssey(I see no reason why this wouldn't be the case for EPIC), Helios threatens to go down to the Underworld, making it that the sun disappears from the mortal world. Zeus otherwise wouldn't care for Odysseus a bit.
that is a very fun fact and a very amusing thought! "If you don't do something about this, I'm gonna stop paying the lighting bill!" Helios said calmly
So a bit of a correction - The Sirens are in the Odyssey, but how they were handled was completely different from how they were in Epic. Jay probably didn’t want to reveal that we were gonna get the Sirens to happen or how he was gonna deal with them.
he had mentioned with song 21 & 22 were gonna be epic original events so that's where I was coming from, would have been more accurate to have said song 21 & 22 were Epic specific rather than not being based on Homer's the Odyssey at all
@@joseantoniogomezrodriguez1724No, it’s the whole bit learning the way home is through Scylla from the sirens, no mention of Charybdis, slaughtering the sirens, and interacting with them. In the Odyssey, Odysseus is tied to the mast so he can listen to the sirens because he’s curious about their song while his crew clogs their ears with beeswax.
as disappointed as i am that we didn't get a Helios song where he's the Daycare Attendant from Security Breach, i also just love how Luke Holt really blurred the line between "baddie" and "get the pepper spray" with his portrayal of Ζεύς, honestly perfect casting by Jorge
Luke Holt's calm anger for Zeus in contrast to Poseidon's rock voice rasp is mesmerising to listen to... but yes get the pepper spray ready just in case
The bit with Eurylochus talking about the island in the same tune as Zeus telling Odysseus to kill Hector's child also has the same tune as a bit of survive. (Which i didn't notice for WAY too long)
The parallel between "This is the home of the wind god" being a sigh of relief where they can get help and "this is the home of the sun god" being a warning is such a great contrast to see between the two songs
Love that everyone has just collectively decided that, no matter their sexuality, Zeus is an absolute smash (and so is Posiren + Scylla apparently). On a different note, your first vid on Epic is one of a few that got me into it for the first time, and damn I’m glad it it. You both have such a way of describing things that have given me a better understanding of the show. Looking forward to your vids on the rest of Epic (and more Starkid shows perhaps 👀👀) All hail Wet Hades…
Thank you so much for this! The Thunder Saga has quite the cast of very alluring figures we must admit. We sometimes forget that our videos introduce people to the things we love and are so glad we got to introduce you to Epic!
When I first heard Suffering I thought Odysseus was imagining a future after he got back home to Penelope in which they'd had a daughter in addition to Telemachus, and to me it made perfect sense that after his experiences with Poseidon, he would be afraid of the water.
*I know this video a lil old, but a bit of correction. When Eurylochus gave that crew mate the torch, he wasn't trading his life for himself. Atp he still hadn't made the connection that those holding the torches were sacrifices, he handed him the torch while he tried to help the other members of the crew. It was only when Scylla snatched that guy up did he finally connected the dots and tried to save the last torch bearer, but there's nothing he could've done. Just wanted to throw that out there 👍🏿.*
@@Undeniably_Idiotic *Didn't think you respond lol but it's cool. I suck at spotting lil details. Had to watch that Animatic multiple times before I got it. Still awesome video 👍🏿*
I still think it is very interesting that in the Circe saga Eurylochus is pleading with Odysseus to abandon the men turned by Circe and to run, but Odysseus goes, "I wouldn't leave you behind and I hope you would do the same for me." Then here in the Lair of Scylla, after singing Monster and everyone deciding to be more Ruthless, Euryolchus is horrified that Odysseus would sacrifice his own men. I am curious as to the flip, or is it because the men were sacrificed instead of turned without control. Also worth noting that when they Mutiny, Stab Odysseus in the back, Knock him out, and Ignore him when he tells them not to kill the cows of Helios, they immediately listen to his every order when he tells them to flee and even call him Captain. So he was so bad at decision making they ignored killing the personal animals of yet another mythical being going so well last time, but then immediately turn around and follow him again, and even blame him when he chooses to go home?
In hindsight, Eurylochus causes a lot of problems throughout their journey, he questions Odysseus's leadership, opens the windbag, attempts to abandon the crew on Circe's island, kills the golden cow, it is really interesting to look back on with the new context
So Odysseus is gone for 10 years in the Troy war, then another 10 years sailing home. It's meant to be like 10 years, 2 weeks since they sailed off of Troy.
Jorge said himself he meant to say "10 long years" instead of "12 long years" back in the Circe saga but now he's just rolling with the fact that not even Odysseus is 100% sure by saying that it's been about 12 years since they've been home
It’s only a mistake because the creator said it was a mistake, I think 12 years could pretty easily be accurate (and I think it puts it on track with the actual odyssey, though moving the year spent with Circe into just travel time), most of his 10 years is with calypso (googled it, and in the odyssey he spent seven years on the island)
Eurylochus did not throw his torch to another person to get rid of it, he threw it to them to go help another crewmember.
