    Can this be installed over a rolled vinyl flooring? I want to tile my bathroom. It's upstairs. The subfloor is a plywood with sheet vinyl. 6x12 area. It would be great to put a primer, and tile directly over it. But I'm considering doing the primer and adding the ditra directly over it. The home was built about 5 years ago.

    Question on the orange foam bordering the walls. My drywall doesn’t extend all of the way to the OSB floor so is the foam still needed? This is a renovation so the original drywall installers left a gap

      You just need to make sure that the thin-set, grout, and tile are not locked in. They need room to expand. 🍊

  • @ViolaSounds
    @ViolaSounds ปีที่แล้ว +1

    7:13 if the floor to wall connection is sealed with the membrane strips and corner pieces, do you still need to give the ditra floor membrane an expansion gap?
    How does the floor not become anchored to the wall with the strips?

      The DITRA itself won't move enough to be a concern, however, you will still need to make sure to add a movement joint, such as DILEX-EKE, in between the tile and wall. Please give our Product Support team a call if you would like to discuss your particular project in more detail. 800-472-4588 (US) or 800-667-8746 (Canada). Thanks!

    • @schlutersystems1
      @schlutersystems1  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there. No, 1/2" is not thick enough to install DITRA over. If you have 16" o.c. joists, you would need to add an additional layer of 1/2" plywood, in accordance with the instructions in the DITRA Installation Handbook. If your joists are spaced further apart, the thickness of the added layer will need to be increased.
      You can check out the details in our Handbook, or reach out to our Product Support team if you need any help.

As for the tile installation over the DITRA, ALL-SET can be used with ceramic, porcelain, and some natural stone, but not with moisture sensitive stone (e.g., green marble), resin-backed tile, or glass tile. Hi, prior to your comment I called in twice and spoke to two different reps, and called in again today after this comment and all 3 reps from the 800 number tech support stated that shluter handbooks advise against the use of cement board as well as Hardie backer boards. They recommended direct to cement or plywood or osb for bonding or shluder ditra. Why am I getting conflicting information for installation guidlines?

      Hi Michael,
      Our apologies as we need to amend our response: Cement board is not an approved substrate for DITRA.
      If you were looking to use cement board as a wall substrate, you can use ALL-SET thinset mortar along with KERDI waterproofing membrane.

      If you are installing the DITRA or DITRA-HEAT membrane, then you just need to key in modified thin-set or ALL-SET into the substrate as you go or for the amount on the roll you plan to lay down next and then trowel out the thin-set and lay the matting.
      If you've already installed the DITRA or DITRA-HEAT membrane, then no, you are not required to skim the whole floor before installing tile, however, it is also okay to do so. You can certainly thin-set and tile at the same time. It's a preference thing.
