  • After getting the new K40 CO2 laser we wanted to test engraving on metal. We try engraving using mustard, cold galvanizing compound, and dry moly lube. We got really good results on stainless steel with both the cold galvanizing compound and the dry moly lube. Tested at 100 mm/s and 50% power.
    Monport also set us up with a discount code for all of you!!!!

    50% power on a 40W tube will burn up the Co2 really fast. That's probably 25+ mA. 40W tubes are rated at about 17-18mA, or around 30% power max. Dry Molly also gives off acidic fumes. It'll eat up the mechanical parts before you know it. Just a couple of tips!

      On my Onyx 55, I did some testing after reading this comment... even 45% power yields some, but not strong results... at 50% however (I used 60mm/s though for both) the image was dark, crisp, and solid. @KLRform this is a great video, thanks!

    I’m going to try the galvanizing compound before purchasing the expensive stuff. Thanks for the video.

      I think it’s our favorite on the K40

      @@KLRform would this work on the Monport Onyx 55?

      Not sure. I have not used that machine. You will prolly need to test a few settings to get it working

      @@KLRform I went ahead and got some, and at 50% power and 60mm/s speed, it's nice and dark with crisp edges. Just for kicks, I *may* get some of the sprays that are "made" for lasers, but for all intents and purposes, there's no reason why the every day hobbyist or small business can't save 80% cost on this very inexpensive can of galvanizing compound!

    I've tested the mustard on the Xtool d1 diode laser, it did work pretty well but I had to run it at a pretty slow speed.

    The XTool D1 does this without any coating.

    Funny my Monport has a sticker on it warning that's its not to be used with metal.

    Did you let the cold galv. Paint dry or burn it when it was wet?

    • @KLRform
      @KLRform  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was dry

    That cold galvanizing has to give off toxic fumes. It looked good though.

      It 100% does. Make sure to exhaust that.

    Dry moly is like WD-40?

    • @KLRform
      @KLRform  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really no. Seems much thicker and dries like a paint.

    for the mustard power too low speed too fast.
    You can burn with a 5w diode laser with mustard on metal.
