The shape of the watch is called cushion case. It's a popular design style in many automatic style watches. I personally think it's great and like it much more than the Apple design.

@naborat7777 the design in this case allows it to have a lager battery, better speaker grills for better sound and overall esthetics. There are so many watch designs available and most watch cases don't serve any kind of purpose. This is one of the things that makes the watch industry interesting.
When the leaks said that the watch is going to be square, I immediately thought Apple Watch and got grossed out. But this actually looks really fine. There are analog watches that look just like this. This shape gives more room for battery and that's always a good thing.

The design of the watch isnt an issue for me, its the proprietary looking band. I have a stash of 20mm bands that I interchange over the years and now it looks like they wont fit smh.
I'm pretty sure Galaxy has had a squircle design before one it's earliest versions. I remember blue squircle watches - I'll try it - kinda weird though
I think the digital prototype in your video you showing at the beginning made people dont buy it that the company is advertising. But if they just would of wanted and let the original watch just come out like it is now it would of been better i think. Now im more interested
I couldn't care less about the design honestly, but this would be good to fit a massive battery in there like probably good for like 650~680mAh up from 590 and that's my biggest issue with Wear OS smartwatches so far so I'm all for it if it would bring massive battery size along with it, probably 3-5 days of "normal" use and 6-7 days with light useage, if that was the case I'd be all for it with this design tbh.
@ first I was not a fan of the design. It has since grown on me. I am interested to see what it looks like in person. I have a watch 6 & the watch 5 pro. I cannot imagine what this new variant is going to offer that will make me upgrade. I have an Apple Watch 8 sterling silver, & the Apple Watch ultra 2. Both cost over $800 dollars. There is not much of a difference between both watches. Just the action button and more battery life and that’s pretty it. In other words, upgrading these days is just a waste of money in my opinion. There’s just no breakthrough that warrants an upgrade. I’ve finally learned that I don’t have to upgrade every year.
I absolutely love my Watch6 Classic in silver. It looks like a proper watch. The Watch7 looks a bit of a mish mash. It will probably look better in person but so far I don't like it.
All I care about is battery life, because the integration with Sammy fones and features are already great. My Garmin quatix 7 can go more than 2 weeks on a charge in smartphone mode so let's see what Sammy can do
If it can boast a 14-day battery it'll be a game changer. If it's just another Apple Watch Ultra wannabe with only two to three days battery I might as well keep using my Garmin....
I still use the Samsung watch 3 nothing major has come out since and will not even consider buying or upgrading unless this has blood glucose technology or automatic calorie marcó counting that uses a sensor to detect the macros and calories I eat without me do anything plus a blood pressure tech any 2 of these 3 technology's in the ultra and ill buy it day one otherwise il just wait..to next year or the year after or until Samsung takes health seriously and not as a joke..
That is a really ugly design for the Galaxy Watch 7. I was looking forward to upgrading my Galaxy Watch 5 Pro but that is not going to happen with this hideous square look. Samsung is copying Apple while Apple is dropping in sales of their products. Samsung phones and watches keep getting worse in design and higher in price which is not going to end well. Samsung should make the watch more luxurious but they obviously are trying to cost cut. Huawei Ultimate Design and GT watch series are masterpieces! Unfortunately, they are not sold in the USA. I will hang on to my Watch 5 Pro along with my Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in bronze.

I actually like cushion cases e.g. like on Seiko's "Cpt. Willard" but I think the proportions on the new Galaxy Watch 7 ultra look odd and pretty bad.
