@@BuruKyu no it is not. The player will eventually mash away until they get the sub tank. You don't need to know how to aim the boomerang cutter like that. It's like you didnt even watch the video to see how J did it
Here's a question. You said in your MMX review that doing certain stages would affect other stages? What was the effects? Edit: Never mind, you covered it. Thanks.
I am pretty sure all of them were mentioned in this video. But, if not, Chill Penguin freezes the lava of Flame Mammoth, Storm Eagle causes a power outage in Spark Mandrill's stage, and Launch Octopus floods the forests of Sting Chameleon.
Not to mention the appropriately named Nightmare system making the order you have to play in random. Nobody completes the stages with the darkness effect active.
@@GordieKat I know. I played through it again recently and I ended up doing my run through rainy turtloids extra area with that effect on. Absolute torture. I lost track of how many times I died.
Great video! So many great memories playing this game. I always had to have my older sister beat sigma at the end even though he's kinda a pushover. Just so intimidating. Quick hint: you can destroy the floaty boaty thingy in lunch octopus' stage (7:16) with one shot if you use the tornado weapon.
This game is so fun to speedrun. That route is called "Icefull" except for one change, you get the penguin heart after chameleon to use the invincibility to go faster. If you can do the "Iceless" jump, the route rotates a bit, but it's not worth learning unless you speedrun the game.
I might be more than a few months late for this, but I honestly think this format is _awesome_ and should definitely continue in the future! X3, despite having some awesome upgrades, is a chore to get through considering backtracking and whatnot. Plus I never got the gold armor because I didn't know how to get a specific upgrade without using the upgraded foot parts. I seriously recommend continuing this because it would be super helpful, especially in the future X games.
I think X6 of all games needs a guide. I really enjoy playing it, but have no shame you need prior knowledge to enjoy it. It may seem random but the NM system is very similar to this in that completion activates the effects, and knowing where parts are in order to progress.
I started playing MMX when I was 6 in the mid 90s, it was a birthday gift from my grandma. I spent months trying to beat the first 8 bosses and was so confused and frustrated when I got to the first sigma stage and didn’t have any armor upgrades besides the leg armor and only a couple of hearts and maybe one E tank. I just wanted to look like X on the cover so bad. It challenged me to critically think as I went back meticulously through each stage exploring (NO Guides/internet, etc!!!) I even found Hadouken, in 1997, as a first grader with no internet. I look back and think how that experience impacted my development, it impacted how I critically think and approach life even today. There’s little prizes and opportunity hidden in a labyrinth of noise and frustration, few of us have the awareness and determination to find them.
Holy shit this is the exact order I've been using for years, I used to try to beat the game as optimal as I could and this is the path I naturally ended picking up on. That's awesome.
Pretty nice order. The order I take is: Chill Penguin Storm Eagle Flame Mammoth Back to Chill Penguin for a heart tank Boomer Kuwanger Launch Octopus Sting Chameleon Spark Mandrill and lastly, Armored Armadillo Your order doesn’t change much, so either definitely works. Edit: The boomerang cutter goes in the direction you’re going while jumping. When you go up during the jump, the cutter goes up. When you drop down, the cutter goes down.
I just bought the mega man x legacy collections 1-2 so I got all 8 games now and this guide helped a lot I’m finally finishing my first complete playthrough of the the first one
This is totally useful and should continue to at least X4. Also, for completion's sake: the mini-boss in Sting Chameleon's stage is vulnerable to Boomerang Cutter. That said, I agree that Storm Tornado is the better choice. It may only do two damage per hit (the mini-boss has a total of 64 HP, btw!) but it's more efficient than firing off Boomerang Cutters (or charging it).
Do it for rest of the series to help every newcomer since I remember myself reaching a good guide for the collectables back then. ~Yes even for X6 I dare you!~
Honestly, this order is pretty flexible in the later half. So long as you beat Kuwanger before Mandrill and Octopus before Chameleon, you can do the stages in any order. I personally like to complete the armor as soon as I can, so my order after Kuwanger was Octopus-Chameleon-Mandrill-Armadillo
I usually go Kuwanger second since you can get the heart tank without any upgrades, you just need a dash jump and a little bit of precise timing, but this is probably the most optimal route for fun.
Quick Tip to anyone struggling with the Anglerge (the submarine mini bosses in Launch Octo): In the second boss, at the very left of the screen is a small solid section, when it sucks you in, you can dash on that platform while holding left (holding left so that you're always facing the right way, and it will put you against the wall when it stops the vacuum). I usually use a combo of charged buster shots and Storm Tornado shots to get the job done. Edit: If you have it, use chameleon sting. As dumb as it sounds, dash into the boss, damage boost behind it, and unload chameleon sting into it'll go down SUPER easy
This is an amazing order, and I'm definitely interested to see what orders you have in mind for the other games in the series. Here's my order of how I play the mavericks and get all the powerups if you're interested: Chill Penguin, Storm Eagle, Flame Mammoth, return to Chill Penguin for the heart tank, Launch Octopus, Sting Chameleon, Boomer Kuwanger, Armored Armadillo (I go buster on this dude for the challenge), and Spark Mandrill.
Thanks for this!! Mega man x for snes has always been my favorite game. I’ve never completed this game until now. Also saw your guide on X2 and X3. Awesome
I personally like to do Sting Chameleon after revising Chill Penguin. That way, you get all four armor upgrades after beating only half of the Mavericks, on top of half of the Sub-Tanks, and the Heart upgrade in his stage can be acquired without beating Launch Octopus first by combining Shotgun Ice with the Buster Upgrade. Then, Armored Armadillo for another Sub-Tank, Boomer Kuwanger to get the Sub-Tank in the following Spark Mandrill's stage, and ending with Launch Octopus. This is because I prioritize the armor upgrades above everything else, then the Sub-Tanks, then the Heart Tanks. Also in Launch Octopus' stage, the regular X Buster is significantly more efficient against the minibosses than Storm Tornado
I would slightly alter this order as far as "least back tracking". Sart with Flame Mammoth then Chill Penguin, allowing you to get the heart and toast penguin quick. Do Storm Eagle next getting all pick ups. Now back track to flame Mammoth to get the three pick ups....its technically quicker because it takes longer to back track through Chill Penguins stage to reach the heart...(plus its cool to get to see the before and after of Flames stage as a result ) cheers!
I’m looking forward to whenever you get to X3 because I find 100%ing that game with minimal backtracking is extremely difficult because I hate fighting the X3 Mavericks (looking at you Blast Hornet) without their weaknesses.
This order here is actually close to the order I tackle the Mavericks in. And, it's actually kinda funny to me how the first 4 Mavericks in your order (Chill Penguin, Storm Eagle, Flame Mammoth, and Boomer Kuwanger) are my top 4 favorite Mavericks in X1, and the remaining 4 in the order (Spark Mandrill, Armored Armadillo, Launch Octopus, and Sting Chameleon) are my bottom 4 favorites (but, not in those orders). And, actually, the weakness of Sting Chameleon's mid boss that guards the Armor upgrade for the first armor is the Boomerang Cutter. Because I played Mega Man Maverick Hunter X as my first ever Mega Man X game, I remember Storm Tornado shredding that mid boss, as well as the first mid boss of Launch Octopus's stage easily, but not the case for the original X1.
I personally go with Flame Mammoth's stage as the first pick, as crazy as it might sound. That stage and boss are pretty straightforward and easy even without the leg upgrade. Also, you get the heart upgrades in Chill Penguin's and Flame Mammoth's stages, respectively, almost immediately after. That and also, I prefer playing through the stages in their original states, that being Flame Mammoth's stage is drastically easier after you defeat Chill Penguin. Other than that, I go with the usual weakness order since the amount of backtracking is pretty non-existent.
A guide to X2 would be a great video to watch. That game handles collectibles so well (sans Bubble Crab) that there's so many potential optimized routes for it. I usually do the following: Wire Sponge Wheel Gator Overdrive Ostrich Crystal Snail Morph Moth Bubble Crab Bubble Crab revisit Flame Stag Magna Centipede If I want to get the Zero parts everything after Overdrive Ostrich can change after a whim. Flame Stag can realistically go anywhere on the order as long as it's before Magna Centipede now that I think about it. I suppose you can also put Bubble Crab wherever you want too.
Crazy how I discovered all these upgrades back in elementary school in the 90’s without any help/guide, just playing MMX over & over lol those passcodes were a major pain so I would just start from the beginning every play through
I this actually taught me something I never knew(how you can shoot the flame things with the buster to get the helm) thanks, next time I play X1 again I'll use it to cut the back tracking
That big green robot in Sting Chameleon's stage is weak to Boomerang Cutter, but since it's also the boss weakness, and it doesn't do enough extra damage, it's not worth using. Fire Wave is a nice alternative tho.
The boomerang isn't random. If you jump and fall after shot it, the boomerang will go down and 1 tile more far. If you are in the floor the boomerang will go up.
Damn this helped me alot I'm only 13 was interested in this franchise from your videos and bought this on the 3ds vc cause I don't want the xlc unless I really like this game which I do and I'm bad at finding secrets and this guide helped me beat this game and it's also the first mega man game I've ever beaten
Definitely a fun video brother. As long as you're enjoying it I think its a great idea to keep building up the Mega Man content on the channel. But I do want those Mega Man 1-6 reviews at some point lol. Just don't want you to get burned out again.
In X2 you can sequence break, like in Wheel Gator.... You can use Chain Strike to get the buster upgrade without dash upgrade. And insane ppl can get the perfect timing of an invincibility hit to climb the spikes for the heart tank. That 2nd one is basically impossible timing. If you are good enough to sequence break maybe include 2 lists like. Normal play best route. Pro play best route. Maybe a recap at the end as well. Nice video dude.
I say the dash button is THE reason why i cant get into MMX, I played it on the MMX Legacy Collection and its so uncomfortable hitting the circle button and having to jump and shoot. If there is a way to change the controls please tell me, because I want to love MMX and play all the games but that damn dash button makes it hard for me
If this does continue into X2 (my favorite) I'd make sure you include most of the neat little tricks you can do to nab powerups. Obvious ones include how to get the arm parts without the leg upgrade using strike chain, and how to grab the sub tank in bubble crab with that nifty little slope jump trick. Some more advanced stuff I'd like to see at least mentioned (if not demonstrated because they can be tricky) would be getting the arm parts without ANY weapons or powerups, or how to get the heart tank in morph moth without crystal snail's weapon (requires you to have the arm and leg parts and do a neon jump). I realize those are trickier ones that are hard to do, but I feel that at least bare mentioning as I would have liked to have seen tricks like ice-less (getting the heart tank from boomer without his weapon OR ice) mentioned in this video.
My personal order right now is: 1. Chill Penguin 2. Storm Eagle 3. Sting Cameleon 4. Spark Mandrill 5. Armored Armadillo 6. Launch octopus 7. Flame Mammoph 8. Boomer Kuwanger I personally find the third charge with the buster upgrade to be somewhat of a pain so I decided to get it only when i absolutely need it.
Sweet video! A strategy guide video is a great idea! Coincidentally, I was just playing X1 last night! By the way, I also use the same boss order to go through the game!
What I like to do is go to Sting Chameleon after Chill Penguin, get the armor upgrade from the mini boss, and then wipe and go to Storm Eagle. What can I say? I like to complete the armor ASAP XD
Hey i just watched your megaman zero vid and i have to tell you that grinding is much easier if you don't fight the elephant boss and use a cyber elf that forces enemies to drop items in the underground laboratory area, and after that you can manipulate the rng values to force e-crystal drops.
Bosses can feel hard at the start. If you want to make the game a lot easier on yourself, collect the armor in the sting chameleon stage asap, it will make the game 50% easier. And it's the number one rule of the Mega Man X series, it was designed with backtracking in mind.
I’ve played this game on and off for a quarter of a century and I NEVER knew you could get the blaster upgrade in the flame mammoth level. I always thought it was only in the Sigma fortress level
I love this idea. I beat X1 and X4, but every other game I’m still trying to get through. Is The Zero/Zx games out of the question? Stay healthy and safe J.
You're a Mega Man after my own heart, J. We go through the same 100% order (except I save the Penguin Heart Tank until after I beat Chameleon), AND we both do the L Button dash. I see so many people who just kinda accept the weird dash button placement despite the buttons being remappable. Out of curiosity, where do you put the Weapon Select L mapping? Do you just swap it with dash and leave it on A, or do you remap it to something else? Personally, I put it on X. All in all, fantastic video, and I hope to see more in the future~
I'm actually going through the MegaMan X games right now. Just finished X1 and X2, but I hardly remember anything on X3. Hod I watched this before completing X1, this would have been a helpful guide.
Good video & format; good luck with X: 5-8 as all of them are a pain to 100% as u need to do each stage at least seemingly twice & that's with optimal runs
Great video and I love the concept and format, but I'm curious about why you chose to not mention the fortress bosses? I feel like strategies for fortress bosses would be one of the most helpful bits of info in these games as their weaknesses are seldom as apparent as the 8 stage bosses might be. Edit: With the boss fights, I mean aside from the comment about timing the Hadoken accurately. Tips about actually fighting them might be helpful. Again, just a thought for future vids. Great job, and I'm so happy to see more MMX on here.
I really enjoyed this video and would like to make a suggestion, a video explaining Mega Man Zero's ranking system/optional difficulty kinda like what you did with MGS

But I really thought your strategy was awesome. I'll try it in the future. I'd love to see move of what you have to say with this format!
Nice video! Can you please also cover side effects from weapons on bosses? Like boomerang cutter on Flame Mammoth's nose. Or sonic slicer on Wire Sponge. Never saw a tentacless Octopus. It's a cutter's job too?
I like it, it shows you the most effective way to get everything. Would love to see X5 and X6 guides.

I liked this idea man! I always love your megaman videos!
If there is a way to change the controls please tell me, because I want to love MMX and play all the games but that damn dash button makes it hard for me
The options menu.
And yes, make it the left bumper.
This video was really good to watch! Please make more!
My personal order right now is:
1. Chill Penguin
2. Storm Eagle
3. Sting Cameleon
4. Spark Mandrill
5. Armored Armadillo
6. Launch octopus
7. Flame Mammoph
8. Boomer Kuwanger
I personally find the third charge with the buster upgrade to be somewhat of a pain so I decided to get it only when i absolutely need it.
Great guide man exactly what I was looking for
Sweet video! A strategy guide video is a great idea! Coincidentally, I was just playing X1 last night! By the way, I also use the same boss order to go through the game!
Thank you so so much!!! I'm new to megaman x !!! Just got it today ( collection 1) this game is brutal ,I'm struggling
This was very useful please continue this series
What I like to do is go to Sting Chameleon after Chill Penguin, get the armor upgrade from the mini boss, and then wipe and go to Storm Eagle. What can I say? I like to complete the armor ASAP XD
Hey i just watched your megaman zero vid and i have to tell you that grinding is much easier if you don't fight the elephant boss and use a cyber elf that forces enemies to drop items in the underground laboratory area, and after that you can manipulate the rng values to force e-crystal drops.
Megaman X content is always appreciated
Bosses can feel hard at the start. If you want to make the game a lot easier on yourself, collect the armor in the sting chameleon stage asap, it will make the game 50% easier.
And it's the number one rule of the Mega Man X series, it was designed with backtracking in mind.
In my experience, out of all the X games, the run with no backtracking for me is X4 Zero
For me its X2, thanks to a glitch in Bubble Crab's stage that lets you get the subtank early.
Stay healthy and safe J.
what have you played now?
@@Zak-bv4qm The First X collection, Zero 1, and currently going thru Zero 2.
@@AJMurdoc Zero 2 killed me so much, I like 3 and 4 better, there all great games tho
mega man x content by J has finally returned??? Great day indeed.
I put dash on R myself, but my weapon select is the X/A buttons.
Keep it up man! This series is fun and informative. Please continue and do X2 (my favorite one)
I really enjoyed this video and would like to make a suggestion, a video explaining Mega Man Zero's ranking system/optional difficulty kinda like what you did with MGS
Hello! I really found this video pretty awesome. I know getting through an x game as fast as possible haz been a thing for a long time now, however, when I play I just play. & It's fun! But I really thought your strategy was awesome. I'll try it in the future. I'd love to see move of what you have to say with this format!
I apreciate your work man, thank you so much
Nice video! Can you please also cover side effects from weapons on bosses? Like boomerang cutter on Flame Mammoth's nose. Or sonic slicer on Wire Sponge. Never saw a tentacless Octopus. It's a cutter's job too?
