Just as a heads up, the third movie is going to be darker especially when you really think about what’s going on. When reviewer actually described Pokémon 3 as essentially silent hill 4kids.
@@Nazo-kage What's the point of sharing this information? Ignoring the fact this is essentially spoilers, Pokemon like Drifloon, Pallosand, Cubone, and Gengar exist. Pokemon having horror isn't exactly new.
@@ImPersonNation I for one thing nothing I said was an actual spoiler, it wouldn’t even pass is the movie description. As for the second thing, that is very true. I think the thing that surprises me is that the twisted Pokédex entries aren’t exclusive to ghost types like you would think.
Ash and Misty are both ten, Brock and Tracey are around 15. While the dub did heavily try to push the ship (to the point they even wrote songs for Misty to admit to having feelings for him or even a couple of “couple” duets such as It Takes Two and Under the Mistletoe), they did have scenes where they were not only aware of each other (Ash gazing at Misty with shoujo bubbles when he sees her in a cute yukata) but even in the original, several characters including Team Rocket, Nurse Joy, a couple of Gym Leaders and Tracey all had noticed and called them out on it. There have been a few girls in the anime who have had crushes on Ash, even from single episodes or mini-arcs but when it came to main girls, Misty and Serena were known to be the most obvious (especially Serena) in regards to such. Also, fun fact about the scene where they are trying to bust the birds out of the cages. They cut a moment from it where Tracey realises that the combination of Pikachu’s electricity and Squirtle’s Water Gun is creating hydrogen and oxygen, which when combined with Charizard’s flamethrower would result in an explosion and warns everyone to get down. At the same time, Togepi is using Metronome which does trigger an explosion that busts the cage open. Tracey’s line is featured in the junior novel adaptation but was cut out of the dub of the movie out of concern it would teach kids how to make bombs even though it was a basic science lesson.
@@warband2272 cute to an extent ash straight up calls Misty ugly in comparison to other pretty girls so I think it depends on the situation cuz sometimes u can just be mean LOL
@@mediagemini5206nope she is twelve even in the electric tale of Pikachu which is why they had to censor that manga a lot for the English release even making chapter three come out before chapter two, Japanese laws are creepy gross and disgusting. Not to mention that the artist who drew those manga only drew adult triple x manga before being hired on for the Electric tale of Pikachu (got this information from Jwitz and linkara two very reliable sources.) On a lighter note in the Japanese anime Jesse and James are in canon a couple.
A detail about Lugia: This pokémon wasn't made by Pokémon Company. Instead it was made by the animators of the movie and Pokémon Company loved the design so much that they added it to the games as the pair of the legendary pokémon Ho-oh and the main focus of the second generation game Pokémon Silver.
That is some cool trivia to know. Lugia has always been my favorite legendary Pokémon and I couldn’t tell if it was because of this movie, it’s design, or the fact that the lochness monster has always been my favorite fictional monster.
The guy with the green shirt is Tracy. Between the Indigo and Johto sagas, for a short period of time Brock stayed with Professor Ivy. That was the woman with the purple hair in the helicopter with Oak and Delia. And to keep it at a team of three they brought in Tracy. He's an artist and a big admirer of Professor Oak.
Yeah they replaced him due to internal concerns among show staff that Brock would be perceived as racist due to his eyes and skin color, but it turned out that people were upset when Brock was replaced by a boring white guy so they brought him back p quickly.
Ah, Aeroblast. Such a massive middle finger to whoever thought they could mess around with Lugia and not find out. As a kid that scene had me jumping off the couch in hype.
I will never forget that according to the game lore Lugia almost eternally sleeps deep in the ocean because the mere flapping of it's wings is said to cause a 40-day storm. Yeah, that's the power level we're talking about with legendaries, and that's not even close to the top end of what these things can do.
Yeah, a certain Creator of All Existance comes to mind. And let's not forget Mewtwo, "The Most Powerful Pokémon." He was probably classified as a legendary BECAUSE of that power.
If you guys are truly going through every movie, obviously heads up for the copyright claims and also know that almost all the movies from Gen 5 onward are pretty average/below average (I would say “I Choose You!” was pretty good though). On a more positive note, I guarantee you that all of the AG and D&P movies are FREAKING FANTASTIC. “Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea”, “Lucario and the Mystery of Mew”, “The Rise of Darkrai”, “Giratina and the Sky Warrior”, and “Arceus and the Jewel of Life” have to be my favorites. 😁 Edit: To clarify, I’m not saying _every_ movie post Gen 4 was bad. The writing for most of them just wasn’t TOO engaging or was kinda middle-of-the road for me compared to the movies from Gen 1 - 4. Regardless of us not getting a Gen 7 movie entirely centered around Alola, I still like “I Choose You” and “Power of Us.” For Gen 5, Victini’s movie was honestly very wholesome, especially for one of my favorite mythicals. Meanwhile, the Hoopa movie only has my enjoyment with every legendary Pokémon battling, but then loses me with aspects like Hoopa’s voice that gets exhausting over time (I get it’s basically a child, but I would’ve preferred the menacing presence of its Unbound form throughout the entire movie) Obviously, these are my opinions, and I don’t even flat out hate any of the ones I don’t put I high pedestals. To me, every Pokémon movie has something to appreciate about it, even when writing choices tip.
omg thank you!!! I've been trying to remember what pokemon movie I'd seen that was recent that was really good, it was the "I choose you!" One. 100% worth the watch!
My favorite Pokemon movie! And Lugia's Song is the best piece of music in any Pokemon media, period. Decades later, I still listen to it sometimes when I need to add some hope and epicness to my day. The movie actually came out during Gen 1, which is why it's set in the Orange Islands--that's an anime-only region they made up to fill time between Gen 1 and Gen 2. Lugia was never supposed to be in the games at all--it was designed by the showrunner of the anime to be an anime-only Pokemon, but then the game devs liked it so they made it a legendary in Gen 2.
Forget pokemon movies. "The Legend Comes To Life" is one of the single most spectacularly majestic pieces of music _ever_ composed. It's musically stupendously produced. There have been PhDs done on how the composer built and released tension, it's insaaane.
Pokemon fact! Lapras design is based on the Loch Ness Monster The Legendary Birds name has Uno Dos and Tres naming for Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres respectively. Lugia maybe considered the Guardian of the Seas but it is a Flying/Psychic type and the move with the laser is called Aeroblast.
It still makes me mad that Lugia is not a Water type. I thought he should be Water / Dragon. That wish wasn't fulfilled until Palkia came along, which doesn't even look like a Water pokemon.
Charizard listens to Ash at this point in the canon, he didnt recall himself, Ash recalled him as he was worried they would go in to the water which could have been fatal for Charizard. Its a nice moment really because it shows a lot of growth in their relationship.
To be fair, I feel like you really do need proper context for that scene to make sense. Not even to explain Ash calling back Charizard, instead of Charizard bailing of its own accord, but just to explain why Ash called Charizard back but not any of his other Pokemon. Without knowing how dangerous water is to Charizard specifically, that decision really does seem rather strange.
It never fails to amuse me that, whenever Team Rocket tries to be villainous they pathetically fail, but whenever they do something legit heroic, they ALWAYS gloriously succeed. Jesse, James, and Meowth were destined to be heroes and are natural at it. I wonder why it is they never realize they're in the wrong line of work.
Not just that. Jessie, James, and Meowth are actually EXTREMELY competent at everything they do that isn't related to crime. Remember when they successfully opened and ran a malasada truck throughout basically the entirety of Sun and Moon?
@@GuukanKitsuneIt’s actually kind of dark when you think about how they’re only in Team Rocket because they all had troubled pasts and were led down the wrong path. With better upbringings, they likely never end up joining Team Rocket and instead become massively successful in their pursuits. But then, they also likely never end up meeting each other, which is ironically worse.
Fun fact: Ash and his friends are legally adults in that world. At the age of 10, they can go out, get jobs, buy a house, become trainers, get married, and do stuff like that. I learned this from an old Pokémon manga or something that popped up on my Google Discover page. Unfortunately, I can't find the article anymore, though. Think about it, that's why Gary can drive around in a car with a bunch of groupies at 10, and nobody questions it.
@@inkchariot6147 That was the vision the show's original head writer had at the time. He also wanted the show to end with Pokémon rebelling against their Trainers, with Pikachu at the helm.
@@wikiuser92 damn. would love to see a darker version of pokemon that addresses animal abuse and trafficking and a pokemon rebellion. i feel like that would make for an amazing show. also all the ramifications of 10 being the legal adult age
Brock was not with Ash and Misty in the Orange Archipelago, the cast in this show rotates every now and then. -Orange Archipelago: Brock leaves (Stays with Professor Ivy) and Tracey joins. -Johto: Tracey leaves (Stays with Professor Oak) and Brock returns. -Hoenn: Misty leaves (She returns to her position as gym leader), May and Max join. -Sinnoh: May and Max leave (They go to Johto instead), Dawn joins. -Unova: Dawn leaves (She goes to Hoenn), Brock leaves (He returns to Kanto), Cilan and Iris join. -Kalos: Cilan and Iris leave; Serena, Clemont and Bonnie join. -Alola: Serena leaves (She goes to Hoenn), Clemont and Bonnie leave too (They return to the gym in Lumiose City), Ash enrolls in Pokemon School and meets Lillie, Lana, Mallow, Kiawe and Sophocles. -Galar/World Tour: Ash travels with Goh and sometimes with a girl called Chloe.
The most popular theory for when this takes place is in-between the episodes Food Fight and Double Trouble. We know it's after Charizard Chills because he's obedient, and in the episode Food Fight not only are they right next to Shamouti Island(Butwal and Kumquat Island are both just north of it), but a huge plot point in Food Fight is that Ash and co can't leave the island because of unusually strong sea currents of unknown origin. So seemingly those currents are tied to the events here.
Fun Fact: The Ancient Mew Card was Free for every admission. So, I think it was receivable while the movie was about to hit theaters, or premiered in theaters day 1.
13:05 This is accurate. A Pokémon Trainer is someone who specifically sets out to train Pokémon for battling. It means that you're ALWAYS open for battle from anyone. It's why an adult can casually challenge a child. The thing is, without a Pokémon, it's hard to 'get' a Pokémon as most Pokémon can break out of a Pokeball if they haven't been weakened by battle. The few that can easily be caught probably can't battle that well. Most people treat Pokémon as intelligent pets, keeping maybe 1 or 2 around for company or help. They don't actively search out for more.
So they did give out promotional cards with movie tickets but you've kind of mixed them up @seeohknee. During Pokémon, the First Movie, they gave out one of four cards, either a Pikachu, Dragonite, Mewtwo or Electabuzz. During release week or weekend for this second movie, they gave out that Ancient Mew card, and then subsequent showings gave out a random Articuno, Zapdos, or Moltres with your ticket. They continued to give out promotional cards for each of these movies either in theaters or with the VHS and very early DVD releases included in the box, although those contained different cards than the ones that came with tickets. For the third movie, they only had one card, Entei. Of all of these promos, the Ancient Mew card is probably the most famous for its a unique style. Also, you should strive to find a copy of the Japanese version of the first Pokémon movie; there's about 15 minutes cut from the beginning of the film that gives a better explanation for why the scientist was cloning Mew and also gives more reason for why Mewtwo is so angry.
I dont know up to what point you guys will continue this series but, as someone who has watched nearly every pokemon movie im excited to see you guys get to the one with Darkrai and the one with Latias and Latios they are peak
@@LuisGustavoSOsame I watched them all until gen 4. My favorites was the deoxys because of the futuristic city they were in with all the vending machines. Second is probably the one with latias and latios

Can't wait till you react to Movie 3 probably the most "narrative" of the 3 first movies, the others are all pretty "evil villain doing evil things and Ash gets caught up in it" but the next one is much more character driven. Its my personal favorite and one of my top movies in general.
When I watched this as a kid I thought 'Lugias song' was the most beautiful song I'd ever heard at the time, I wanted to learn the flute for a while just for that song, and Lugia became my favourite Legendary since.
The reason Ash suddenly retracted Charizard is because if the flame on its tail goes out the thing DIES! and a giant wave is coming at them quickly. He saved Charizard's life.

The intro scene of the Darkrai movie is a core memory for me, after that point i was interested in lore in media and cosmic horror related stuff even as a kid
I love this movie. It's awesome and makes me so happy. I still have my Mew card (two in fact). Also, the music in this movie is just fantastic. They went really extra with it. Ash and Misty travelled the Orange Islands with Tracey between Kanto and Johto league. Brock is back for Johto and multiple seasons after.
(Sorry this ended up being pretty long) As someone who has seen most of the anime I can tell you about ash’s companions what happened with Brock and who green shirt is. So in the Og series based on Gen 1 in which ash travels trough kanto he travels with Brock the 1st gym leader and Misty the second gym leader, there isn’t actually anything romantic between ash and misty but people definitely ship it like a lot! The second season (which is when this movie takes place) is the Orange Islands, which was a filler season in between the completion of ash’s kanto journey and the release of gold and silver, so they created a place specially for the anime called the Orange island archipelago, this is when Brock leaves he meets the professor of the Orange islands, Professor Ivy (who is shown in this movie, the purple hair girl) and sees her place is a mess and his paternal instincts kick in and he decides to stay with her to take care of her and her 3 (I think) sisters. After Brock Leaves, Tracey Sketchit (Green Shirt and was also made for the anime) joins ash on his travel through the islands, he is a Pokémon watcher, which is just fancy talk for Pokémon researcher/observer and his thing is that he draws pokemon, he doesn’t do much in the movie, but is way more relevant in the anime. Tracey leaves at the end season to work under Professor Oak, and Brock rejoins ash, as an incident happens with professor ivy that he doesn’t want to talk about. Season 3 ,4, and 5 are based on Gen 2 and take place in Johto, Misty and Brock travel with him for these seasons but Misty leaves at the end of season 5. Seasons 6-9 are based on Gen 3 and take place in Hoenn, Brock continues with ash and they are joined by May, who in the games is either the female player character, or if choose to be a male, the rival/ professor’s daughter, in the anime though she is I believe the daughter of 5th gym leader Norman, who is the player character’s dad in the game, and ash is also joined by May’s younger brother, Max, who is also made up for the anime. May and Max leave at the end of season 9, but Brock continues with Ash. Season 10-13 is based on Gen 4 taking place in sinnoh and has in my opinion the best of the Pokémon movies. Ash and Brock are joined by Dawn, who is either the female player characther, or if you’re male, the professor’s assistant. At the end of 13, Ash and Brock return home to kanto, while Dawn stays in Sinnoh. Season 14-16 is based on Gen 5 takes place in Unova, Brock stays in Kanto and Ash is joined by Cilan the First Gym leader, and Iris, who in the games is 8th gym leader in white, and champion in black 2 white 2, but in the anime is just some girl from a dragon village though later when she briefly returns in the last season of Ash is the Champion now. They stay back at the end of 16. Season 17-19, are based on Gen 6 and take place in Kalos, here ash travels with Serena who in the game is once again either female protagonist or if male, the rival, in the anime she’s just some girl who meet ash at a camp when they were young, and they eventually reunited. He is also join by Clement the 5th gym leader, and his little sister Bonnie. They part ways at the end of 19 with clement and Bonnie staying behind and Serena going to Hoenn, which they’re actually was something romantic between Serena and Ash, canonically. Season 20-22 is based on Gen 7, takes place in Alola he doesn’t actually have travel companions in this one, but he does befriend a bunch of Trial Captains and Lillie who in the games is the professor’s assistant, and in the anime one of ash’s schoolmates as in these seasons he goes to trainer school in Alola. None of these friends appear in any of the movies that happend around that time, and at the end of 22 ash goes back to kanto and everyone stays behind. Season 23-26 is ash’s final journey, and is technically based on Gen 8, but really is just him and a new characther made for the anime Goh, becoming research assistants for another anime exclusive characther, Professor cyrese, where they travel through all the regions including the newest at that time, Galar, which in Galar, the World Coronation Series takes place, which determines the strongest trainer in the world, which ash wins making him theoretically a Pokémon master. They also joined late by Chloe, the professors daughter and Gob’s friend. Ash embarks on a new journey, parting with Goh and Chloe, and along the way reunites with a couple of old companions, and the series with ash ends. The newest season/series which is maybe season 27, follows a new protagonist Liko from the new Paldea region, and roy, as they follow a similar styled journey to the last 3 seasons, which since I haven’t watched the newest season is about as much as I know.
On the original Pokemon CD therte the one with "2be a master" "doubletrouble" thers a song called "mistys song" and its definatly about misty beeing in love with ash. So yeah idk. can you please tell me whats that about . im very curiouse and you seem knowledgeabele
Brock was taken out and replaced by Tracy because the creators thought his design was seen as offensive by black viewers. Once they heard that it wasn’t and everyone asked why he was taken out he was brought him back
This is absolutely my favorite of all the Pokémon movies, the legendaries in this movie are portrayed with such power behind them that the stakes feel so real. I love this movie and I'm glad you guys are enjoying them and I can't wait to watch your reaction to the third movie.
However, charizard and pikachu both canceled out moltres and zapdos attacks. Which I guess can indicate that the birds aren't that strong individually, or ashes pokemon actually are stronger than we realize.
It was really fun to watch the first movie from you guys. Took me back to my childhood in the best way, and I'm ready for round 2 with the first movie I personally owned on VHS as a kid.
Attempt 3: You guys need to force Boom to react to the Shabrina arc from the Kanto region. Due to the episodic nature of pokemon you can jump into it without having watched the past episodes. It is one of the best arcs in Pokemon so his reaction to it will be amazing. It is also only a few episodes so it won't take long to react to it.
If I remember correctly the first movie takes place sometime before ash goes to the first pokemon league, as we see Mewtwo escape from Giovanni's facility around the time Ash is there in viridian city to get his final badge. After the pokemon league ash, misty, and brock go do the orange league in the orange islands, a sort of unofficial competition. There they leave brock with Professor Ivy, and they meet the new dude, Tracey. This movie takes place during the Orange league. Misty left after the Orange league to take care of her sisters gym in cerulean city and Brock returns to the party, Tracey is left with professor oak. Brock and Ash go to Johto which officially heralds in the second generation of pokemon. Which means that this movie is technically still gen1, meaning that Lugias appearance was actually a pretty big deal. Back in the day the idea of new pokemon outside of the 151 was still mind boggling to us kids, watching Donphan in movie 1 for instance was amazing. That having been said, the legendary that Ash sees in the very first episode of the anime is ho-oh, who is the counterpart of Lugia and a gen 2 pokemon. This was a mystery to us kids for the longest time., a pokemon no one new. The theory, that you guys have been alluding to, concerns ho-ohs gen4 pokedex entry, which says "It is said that those who see Ho-Oh are promised an eternal happiness". Ash sees Ho-oh in episode 1, and is also struck by pikachu lighting and nearly dies. Since Ho-oh is a phoenix, the theory is that he actually died and was brought back in a sense and is now experiencing what to Ash would be eternal happiness, his pokemon journey, which is why he never ages, never wins (before he actually did), always resets at the start of a new gen, etc. This is then corroborated with the world becoming more pokemon centered as the story goes on. At first normal animals were also a thing in the pokemon world, now there are only pokemon, it's as if the world is slowly becoming more and more attuned to what Ash's ultimate happiness would be. It's just ho-ohs powers allowing Ashs deteriorating brain to live an eternity of happiness in the moments before death. Concerning the romance between Ash and Misty, it's not as prevalent in the japanese version but the English dub really ramped it up, it never really went anywhere though nor was it made official. A few generations later though then show introduced Serena, a pokegirl (companion) who knew Ash from childhood and was legitimately in love with him. By that time people who likes Ash and Misty together had waited for so long that they mostly just rejoiced that there was finally SOME semblance of actual romance there and amourshipping, (Serena x ash, since it takes place in a fictional france) overtook ash x misty as the most popular ship. It's also the pairing that has the most chance of ever being canonized imo since, of all the female companions, Serena has been the only one to actually kiss ash. Also, yeah, no one give a F*&k about Tracey, everyone only loves Brock XD Also also, when, after 25 years, Ash finally became the pokemon champion. Do you know who were the only people who showed up to cheer him on? Not Misty, not Serena, not any of the companions.....but freaking Team Rocket. They tried and failed to steal that Pikachu for 25 years, but when Ash's time was there, they were there cheering him on, the only guys who were with Ash his entire journey. I too love team rocket.
I grew up with pokemon, Lugia has been and will forever my all time favorite pokemon. I saw the movie in theaters as a child and it has stuck with me ever since.
I still have my ancient mew cards. Saw the first movie and this one in theaters! It was an amazing experience. Also the Polkamon song in the credits was actually Weird Al, I had the soundtrack for the movie.
Pokemon The Movie 2000 takes place probably sometime during or after Pokémon: Adventures in the Orange Islands (I think after), which is the second season between Indigo League (Season 1) and The Johto Journeys (Season 3). It's kind of a filler season. The Orange Islands/Orange Archipelago is a TV show-exclusive region not in the games. Tracy replaces Brock in that season. It features mostly Kanto Pokemon and few Johto Pokemon (Tracy has a Marill, and Slowking and Lugia appear in this movie).
Ya'll should definitely do Detective Pikachu, it's surprisingly entertaining and a little more grown up then the cartoon movies and fun even for people not familiar with Pokemon
The reason why brock left the group was because by this point in the story he had the opportunity to become a Pokémon breeder which was what he wanted to be since joining ash on his adventure.
Not gonna go through the full text of the comment last time but here's the quick notes - P2K is great, awesome poster, lots of action, Lugia's Song is hypnotic and very much Zelda-like - Brock was replaced by Tracey Sketchit, the whiter than white boy because the company worried that Brock would be seen as a racial stereotype to a global audience. Brock came back after the arc ended, having stayed with Professor Ivy in the interim, when they learned that people didn't care how he looked because they enjoyed the character. Tracey remained with Professor Oak, he's kinda like Pokémon's Yamcha in that he's just there but he isn't bad. - This movie and the Orange Islands arc - where Ash undertook a gym crawl not relative to the games - did further push the implication that Misty (10 in anime, 12 in certain manga that go different directions) has feelings for Ash, but shipping is dangerous territory so best be civil - Fusion is in fact a thing in Pokémon, in the Pokémon Adventures manga Team Rocket actually successfully fuse Zapdos, Articuno and Moltres into one, Zapmolcuno, but canonically Kyurem fuses with other Pokémon via item, Calyrex can tame one of two horse Pokémon as a steed, and technically the Slowbro/Slowking evolution is explained like a fusion with Shellder - Gyarados can in fact learn Flamethrower, by TM since Gen III, before then it could still learn Fire Blast and Thunder, think it's the dragon-like energy, though Rhydon can learn Surf so yeah - Team Rocket were the villains for the first two Gens yes, but in Gen II they're more the remnants trying to get their boss back in the game after he went missing, it made sense because the two regions of the game were connected (since after the Johto gyms you did the Kanto ones before the Elite Four), nowadays though the 'evil team' has transitioned to more loveable misunderstood rogues, sometimes it works - usually to misdirect to a true villain - but sometimes we do miss when the evil team were kinda whackjobs, same with the rivals they're not often pure dickheads anymore - Ash does in fact keep his promise to his mother after this, always returning to Pallet Town after finishing up with a new region. In one episode he also mentions meeting a Lugia.
I can’t be too surprised. Like I mentioned last time, companies with control over Pokémon anime footage being showcased online (heavily edited or not) are pretty proprietary with it, mostly in instances that seem way too far (Pokéflax suffered a lot from it).
18:50 brock was the first of his sqaud to get swap out that is the guy in green that is the "new" guy with knowalge about pokemon to tell new viewers the infomation. and the fun part is that Ash had a 11 years old birthday party in season 2 or somewhere along those lines but the next season he is 10 again... they litarally says you have been a trainer for a year now in that episode
Thank you guys for reuploading!! I loved watching y'alls reactions to the first movie and this reaction was just as fun! I hope you guys keep reacting to all of the movies, each one is more fun and interesting than the last (IMO). Lucario and the Mystery of Mew and Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea are two of my personal favorites!
This took place during the Orange Island arc, which was after the Indigo League but before Johto. During that time, Brock took a lot of criticism for his womanizing and was "left behind" to help at a research facility at the beginning of the arc. Tracey took over for him, but failed as a companion character and Brock made his return in time Johto.
still remember seeing this in theaters when it came out. the ENTIRE theater gave it a standing ovation--adults and kids alike. core memory. gonna peek around later bc i hope you guys watched all the pre-movie shorts that went with these!
I’m loving seeing yall watch these movies! I hope you continue! Two of my favorites are 4 and 5. I hope you guys decide to keep going with the pokemon movies 👍
This movie always brings a smile to my face, the music, the story, character arcs and my all time favorite legendary pokemon Lugia makes his appearance. I get nostalgic tears just watching this. First time i saw this was Christmas morning in 1999, few days before the Y2K incident.
The part where it said, 'and thus the Earth shall turn to ash', might've been very confusing to the good characters in this movie- simply because it was referring to the world being uninhabitable, given that the Titans of fire, ice, and lightning(Moltres, Articuno, and Zapdos) continue to clash amongst each other. The whole entire time they've actually assumed 'ash' meant Ash Ketchum, who's only 10 years old, and look to him as 'the chosen one', which his Pikachu seemed dead set on him saving the world. A 10-year-old unexpecting, unassuming participant of a prophecy that's to be fulfilled? He might as well be the Avatar Aang of the Pokemon world!!!!
Trivia: In the Japanese movie, Ash or actually Satoshi was not the chosen one, rather because he had started the task, they wanted him to finish it and help Lugia in saving the world. Also Lugia says in the original Japanese movie that he needs to remain in the ocean depths for the world's sake. Protecting the balance and the world was something movie Lugia took seriously
Awesome reaction guys this was my favourite pokemon movie easily!😊And yes Boomer Lugia is definitley sick loved that moment!Lugia is my favourite pokemon
Here posting a comment because of the reupload to help show it some love! Also, looking forward to more Pokemon movie reactions! Would love it if you guys continue past the beginning stuff as well if you're able to (these three that you have the blu-ray for), especially since Ruff and Erik, you guys don't really seem to be familiar with stuff that's like past the Kanto region of content if I'm reading that right
Im in my mid 30s and I'm still a pokemon fan. The early 2000s movies and the og tv show will always be classics. Misty always had a thing for ash and vice versa. Melody picked ash to become the chosen one and to get all 3 crystal's and to put all 3 legendary birds at peace and rest and to be free. Good and funny reaction to this movie Sorta Stupid crew and take care.
First time I saw this movie was on VHS, back when I was forbidden to watch anything Pokémon (questionable part of my life, I know). This movie became my favorite because of Lugia, who is imo, one of the best legendaries in existence. Love it’s design, abilities, and it’s signature move, Aeroblast. Also, it’s song is absolutely beautiful, one of my favorite pieces of music ever!
Fun Fact: Though Lugia lives in the ocean and is called The Beast of The Sea, it’s typing has nothing to do with water being Psychic/Flying type, also Gyarados can learn Flamethrower and Fire Blast through TM, so yeah.
In the games, series, and manga, there is a Lavender Town. In Lavender Town is 2 cemetaries. One is a human cemetary with coffins with dead humans. The other is a Pokemon Cementary with monuments for dead Pokemon. It's really dark.
@@DinosaurNick yup I think a gym leader was the head of the project but before the game something happened and it was abandoned but that was only after many Pokemon fell to it. It was in ORAS its a sad reality but the place never finished so no one ever found out what happened
Since you guys aren’t watching the main series I’m excited to see your reactions to the other movies since Ash and his Pokémon teams go through a lot of evolutions and changes. Seeing your reaction to him having caught a Lapras since the last movie was really cool and something I’ll look forward to a lot now.
It does raise some weird questions like 'how do some random rocks control the emotion of a legendary', 'just what other technology exists if they have flying islands', and 'why are pokemon not the dominant lifeform'. But anyway glad to see you three continuing to enjoy the goofy cartoons!
The fact that misty went out in a tsunami with hurricanes & freezing ass water shows she cares about him more than the other people he travels with. Serena ain't got shit on misty
Make sure to watch _Mewtwo Returns_ after the 3rd movie! That's when it slots into the rest of the animé, even if it's not technically a movie released in theatres!
I still have my Ancient Mew card that I got when I went to the theatre to see this film. I had just turned 15 at the time, and I won a promotional Articuno card from the Pokemon Trading Card Game League (which I also still have). At the showings of the first movie, they gave out packs where kids got one of four promo cards, and at the second movie, they first gave out Ancient Mew cards, then one of three promos of one of the legendary birds, and at the third movie, a promo Entei card. The fourth movie was the last Pokemon film shown in theaters, until the 20th anniversary movie.
Fun fact. The Pokemon Card (Anchient Mew) you mention at the end of the movie, that was given out at the premiere at the Frist Pokemon Movie - I still have that Promo-Card from that day, and it is STILL in Near Mint condition. No scratches or dents or sun-bleaching. Perfect card. I got that card when i whent to see that movie as a 16yo. Today it is the crown jewel of my 13yo sons pokemon card Collection.!
47:03 I'm sure that Gyarados used flamethrower right there, I mean it actually learns flamethrower in the games, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case.
34:30 Something like that *does* exist in the "Pokémon Adventures* manga, where in the first arc, Team Rocket fused the Three Legendary Kanto-Birds into an amalgamation of sorts using the power of the Gym Badges. They get seperated, but it still happened.
I don't usually like and comment, but since this was taken down I wanna encourage you to keep going! Even if it sucks it's gotta be edited more, it's still good content that I enjoy watching!
1:03:08 Since Pokemon that debuted in Gen 2 existed during the Gen 1 era years before the release of G/S/C (for example, Ho-oh appeared in the first episode of the anime in 1997 and apparently in a magazine in 1996), they could've conceptualized Lugia being connected to the birds as early as that despite not having it be part of Gen 1.
Pokemon Training, let's say "in reality" even tho I know it's fiction, is about basically raising a half dozen wild animals together to battle/fight/kill at your command in a sports league. Not only are they wild animals that you have to befriend and/or tame. These animals can spew lava, shoot lightning bolts, break stones, and control minds. If you just have 1 or 2 Pokemon you live with, you have pets. Pokemon Arceus is all about how people just a couple hundred years ago were terrified of Pokemon and they are seen as pests, predators, and natural disasters. This leads to the idea that Pokemon Trainers are also called upon to solve issues between Pokemon and people as they understand them and work with them daily. Think of it like a planet with 2 dominant species, Humans and Pokemon, and Pokemon Trainers and their Pokemon are the bridge between them. Learning (Pokedex), understanding (training together), and solving issues is the entire job of a Pokemon Trainer outside the league. The issues are what they deal with most of the time in the show and what most of the quests are in the games.
The theatrical releases of these movies, along with the "original" DVD releases, had these minisode things at the beginning staring Pikachu. The first was at some kind of Pokemon vacation resort or something, and the one before this one was in a forest.
During the movies Pokémon Company employees used to go there with special versions of the games full of event pokémon or special merchandise and give it to those fortunate players who brought their games and arrived in time for the distribution.
I remember having an “interactive cd” for this movie back in the day lmao. It played the soundtrack on the radio and on the computer I think there were wallpapers and stuff like that.
Each movie take place between two seasons. Brock is not here in this one because it takes place during the season 2 of the show. If you're confused about their Pokémon or the characters not being the same, that's why. Personnaly, I watched each movie after I finished watching a season. For example, I only watched movie 8 after watching season 8.
Just wanna point out in Mr Mime's pokedex entry, it does say that it causes the changes in space like it does because the tips of its fingers vibrate at a high speed.
The movie was blocked earlier in the week, this is a reupload. Show it some love and maybe YT wont block it!
Just as a heads up, the third movie is going to be darker especially when you really think about what’s going on.

Probably a good thing the manga didn't translate 1-1 with the anime. Electric Tales of Pikachu Misty was 18.
I thought Misty is 12, I was informed by a web before.
I just find it funny how they pushed Misty’s crush on ash and ash calls her ugly a ton of times in the show LMFAO
On a lighter note in the Japanese anime Jesse and James are in canon a couple.
It was the head writer not the animators.

Edit: To clarify, I’m not saying _every_ movie post Gen 4 was bad.

The Zarude movie was good
I like the hoopa movie though.
nanananana, the zeraora, volcanion and zarude movies are all REALLY good- some of my favorites
I also find Oracion from the DP movie to be another music piece considered the best
Pokemon fact!
Lapras design is based on the Loch Ness Monster
The Legendary Birds name has Uno Dos and Tres naming for Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres respectively.
"This almost sounds like Weird Al." Spot on, that is Weird Al.
@@richardkirkland6805 They literally just suck at being bad guys. They are awesome at everything else. And they just... never seem to realize this.

But then, they also likely never end up meeting each other, which is ironically worse.
Fun Fact: Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen were both considered for voicing the role of Lawrence III (The Collector)
That would've probably cost a lot more than twice the movie's animation budget !

Thanks for the re-up guys i hope its going ok over there
13:05 This is accurate.

It’s a shame they had to cut that part out for the US release but I thought they added it in somewhere later on.

Didn't Brock's role get reduced to avoid complaints about his eyes, but then everyone complained that Brock was the GOAT, so they brought him back
35:53 Not only does he have a specific code for accidentally kidnapping people, he has People Sized Cages on standby XD
Before Guzzlord, there was Zapdos. If you know, you know.
Also, yeah, no one give a F*&k about Tracey, everyone only loves Brock XD
Also also, when, after 25 years, Ash finally became the pokemon champion.
Yes, more Pokemon movies!! Lugia is the goat
Sadly I doubt they'll watch the special Mewtwo returns since it's not a movie but shit is it awesome
Woohoo! Glad you're continuing this! The Pokemon movies are a wild ride and when someone hasnt seen the anime its even better.
Ya'll should definitely do Detective Pikachu, it's surprisingly entertaining and a little more grown up then the cartoon movies and fun even for people not familiar with Pokemon

Ots the meme "the song has restored my strength" 😂😂😂
The reason why brock left the group was because by this point in the story he had the opportunity to become a Pokémon breeder which was what he wanted to be since joining ash on his adventure.
Wait not yet, brock split to get with Professor Ivy before he found that she was insane
You’re close. He was with Professor Ivy and wanted to breed.

Not gonna go through the full text of the comment last time but here's the quick notes
- P2K is great, awesome poster, lots of action, Lugia's Song is hypnotic and very much Zelda-like
- Brock was replaced by Tracey Sketchit, the whiter than white boy because the company worried that Brock would be seen as a racial stereotype to a global audience. Brock came back after the arc ended, having stayed with Professor Ivy in the interim, when they learned that people didn't care how he looked because they enjoyed the character. Tracey remained with Professor Oak, he's kinda like Pokémon's Yamcha in that he's just there but he isn't bad.
- This movie and the Orange Islands arc - where Ash undertook a gym crawl not relative to the games - did further push the implication that Misty (10 in anime, 12 in certain manga that go different directions) has feelings for Ash, but shipping is dangerous territory so best be civil
- Fusion is in fact a thing in Pokémon, in the Pokémon Adventures manga Team Rocket actually successfully fuse Zapdos, Articuno and Moltres into one, Zapmolcuno, but canonically Kyurem fuses with other Pokémon via item, Calyrex can tame one of two horse Pokémon as a steed, and technically the Slowbro/Slowking evolution is explained like a fusion with Shellder
- Gyarados can in fact learn Flamethrower, by TM since Gen III, before then it could still learn Fire Blast and Thunder, think it's the dragon-like energy, though Rhydon can learn Surf so yeah
- Team Rocket were the villains for the first two Gens yes, but in Gen II they're more the remnants trying to get their boss back in the game after he went missing, it made sense because the two regions of the game were connected (since after the Johto gyms you did the Kanto ones before the Elite Four), nowadays though the 'evil team' has transitioned to more loveable misunderstood rogues, sometimes it works - usually to misdirect to a true villain - but sometimes we do miss when the evil team were kinda whackjobs, same with the rivals they're not often pure dickheads anymore
- Ash does in fact keep his promise to his mother after this, always returning to Pallet Town after finishing up with a new region. In one episode he also mentions meeting a Lugia.
Dude this broght huge memories, I remember see Pokémon 2000 in theater. Out of all of them 2000 is my favorite movie of all time for me
I can’t be too surprised. Like I mentioned last time, companies with control over Pokémon anime footage being showcased online (heavily edited or not) are pretty proprietary with it, mostly in instances that seem way too far (Pokéflax suffered a lot from it).
You guys laughed thought the best line. When Ash is walking in the show he say "right now I feel like the Frozen one"
18:50 brock was the first of his sqaud to get swap out that is the guy in green that is the "new" guy with knowalge about pokemon to tell new viewers the infomation. and the fun part is that Ash had a 11 years old birthday party in season 2 or somewhere along those lines but the next season he is 10 again... they litarally says you have been a trainer for a year now in that episode
oh yeah and Brock left the gang to help Pokemons like work at a pokemon spa/hospital/retirement home
I love Pokémon! I'm a huge Pokémon nerd and proud of it. I was 7 when it started and now 34 and still a fan.
Fun Fact: Lugia was created specifically for this movie and wasn’t intended to appear in the games.
This one is my favorite. Lugia’s theme haunts my childhood and I love it
still remember seeing this in theaters when it came out. the ENTIRE theater gave it a standing ovation--adults and kids alike. core memory. gonna peek around later bc i hope you guys watched all the pre-movie shorts that went with these!
I’m loving seeing yall watch these movies! I hope you continue! Two of my favorites are 4 and 5. I hope you guys decide to keep going with the pokemon movies 👍
oddly enough, aside from the music, the lines that sticks in my head most is Meowth translating for Zapdos "now Lightning shall rule ova fiya"
This movie always brings a smile to my face, the music, the story, character arcs and my all time favorite legendary pokemon Lugia makes his appearance. I get nostalgic tears just watching this. First time i saw this was Christmas morning in 1999, few days before the Y2K incident.
These videos are so so fun, I'm so stoked y'all are watching these, your reactions are a blast! XD
When this came out I owned a recorder and kept trying to play the song on it obnoxiously. I love this movie so much.
This movie has such a beautiful music and great direction
I still has goosebumps when I hear the Lugia's song
Dude the sound cuts from the editing are hilarious xD
First time I saw this movie was on VHS, back when I was forbidden to watch anything Pokémon (questionable part of my life, I know). This movie became my favorite because of Lugia, who is imo, one of the best legendaries in existence. Love it’s design, abilities, and it’s signature move, Aeroblast. Also, it’s song is absolutely beautiful, one of my favorite pieces of music ever!
If you wanna bawl your eyes out, the victini movie, latios/latias movie, and the darkrai movie are perfect
Darkrai one fucked me up
I had this movie on VHS and watched it probably 100 times. Loved it every time as a kid, especially the villain, he was cool af. Also the OST slapped
Fun Fact: Though Lugia lives in the ocean and is called The Beast of The Sea, it’s typing has nothing to do with water being Psychic/Flying type, also Gyarados can learn Flamethrower and Fire Blast through TM, so yeah.
It’s back! Let’s goooooo!! Thanks Sorta Stupid for your dedication to getting this amazing content out to us!!
49:07 That cut right here is hilarious! XD
"...but this can come to pass only with the help of the cheese."
In the games, series, and manga, there is a Lavender Town. In Lavender Town is 2 cemetaries. One is a human cemetary with coffins with dead humans. The other is a Pokemon Cementary with monuments for dead Pokemon. It's really dark.
Don't forget in games you got a place like C-Marvel a place for in case of apocalypse using the bodies and inner energy of Pokemon to make it
@@lightdarksoul2097 Wait what? That's a thing??
@@DinosaurNick yup I think a gym leader was the head of the project but before the game something happened and it was abandoned but that was only after many Pokemon fell to it. It was in ORAS its a sad reality but the place never finished so no one ever found out what happened
@@lightdarksoul2097 Wow that's dark!
@@DinosaurNick Ueah but also super interesting I'd look it up a twisted story
"Boom is a Pokemon-noob"
Meanwhile you guys don't know Tracey or anything about Ash's Pokemon at that point in time, during the Orange Islands Arc xD
Non-pokemon fan should watch the tournament battle between Ash and Leon/Dante.
Amazing
I think Gyarados was using the move "Dragon Rage," not flamethrower.
17:35 wait until he finds out about Vaporeon
54:14 "how has it not popped"
can we please keep in mind that just seconds before they were talking about drilling into holes
STILL my favorite pokemon movie! It made my fall in love with Lugia which is still my favorite pokemon to this day!
