MOE has plenty to do when it comes to dealing such issues - this is my opinion. I attended a skillsfuture course for adults at an IHL. I was shocked to witness bullying behaviour in class. I was even more appalled on how the lecturers/trainers and school handled the situation when it was escalated. Bullying do not exist just amongst juveniles but can be present in a class where inclusion is absent amongst learners from a wide range of different backgrounds, age groups, communication styles and cognitive abilities. There is just so much focus on types of technical skills schools are building in learners, but more should be done about ethics and being humane.

Verbal and ostracism is arguably worse because its way harder to resolve. Teachers cant do anything because they cant detect these kinds of bullying and often downplay it

Nowadays, even teachers got bullied by parents. See what happened in Korea where students dare to hit teachers in front of camera. But in Singapore, some parents seem to be over protective of their children. Complain and scold teachers even though it’s their spoilt children who are at fault.
Recently, I received a video clip from a friend of a boy in uniform being bullied by a bigger boy. I was so shocked and quickly made a police report and sent an email to Minister Chan. He then forwarded my email to MOE. Maybe that’s why this topic surfaced now. I have no tolerance for any form of bullying. It’s utterly unacceptable.

The one thing that puzzles me is that people always ask what is the school going to do with it? Why didn't they question the parents of the bullies? Especially when it happened outside school compound and after school.

In 1994, in polytechnic, a student put chewing gum on my seat when I stood up to try and get me to sit on it.. i found the gum on the back of my shirt and informed the teacher, and the bully was so pissed and later when the lecture ended, he pushed me towards a row of lockers and threaten me, thankfully it didn't get beyond that.. a lot of time teachers, try to downplay the reported issue and attribute it to just a prank or playfully behaviour.

Bullying is very much more prominent in single sex, missionary schools than mixed schools imho.
I’ve had bad experiences for my sons in two all boys schools- Always Cocky School & Many Schoolkids Hit Schoolkids… my older son almost committed suicide whilst in the former. My middle son was slowly losing his joy because of the vocal bullying in the latter school. For my eldest it started with his form teacher giving him a nickname that further emphasised his small size. He was picked on so badly. My second boy was taller and I thought he would be less bullied, but he is kind and sweet & the boys saw it as weakness. Plus he had dyslexia so he was slower and that got him teased. For both boys, I transferred them to mixed schools. My eldest I put him back in his original school. My middle son I transferred him to a neighbourhood school people looked down coz they perceive it wasn’t as branded, but he thrived and was was loved there.
I grew up in a branded all girls school too and was bullied for 11 years. And the teachers singled me out too… one of the guy teachers threatened to slap me for a mistake he made, another teacher made me stand out side the class the whole year. As long as she was in class, I had to stand outside. Why? Coz I finished all my worksheets ahead of time as I liked the subject.
Primary and Secondary schools = the most torturous part of the education system.

Can the government implement some sort of rules to only allow children who are ready to learn in a school environment to enter the school to study?
If the child is not cooperative and compliant to school rules, he or she can be sent home immediately. Hopefully this will force parents to do their part in educating their children the right behaviours of being in a society. There is also the option of private schools parents can explore if their children really cannot comply to school rules.
Rules are implemented for the school environment to be safe for children to learn in… if it can be bent or if bad behaviours are easily forgiven… the sense of social responsibility will never be inculcated and our society will start to worsen. Take a stronger stand in stopping bullies. Bullies at a young age will grow up to be bigger bullies.

I was bullied in Primary and Secondary school. Qifa Primary: 3 P3 boys punch me when I was P1 in the stomach in school bus. I was a China migrant, didn't know English, so I had no idea why they beat me. That was in 1999 and even teachers were allowed to beat students. I remember a P1 boy classmate peeing his pants bc the teacher did not allow him to go toilet. I didn't want to end up like that so I went to the toilet despite not being allowed to, and when I came back, the teacher used metal rulers and hit my leg. My parents couldn't care less because they victim blame. They say why only I was bullied, it's my own problem 🙄. So I learn never to expect help from parents. How I overcame my bullies is I became very fat so that it is not so easy for bullies to fight me.

People can’t empatise because they are not in touch with their heart’s feelings. So, the only way to get them in touch with their feelings is meditation. simple. Why go around the bush and all that? Meditation helps one to feel one’s heart. It is this disconnection with one’s heart that make a person heartless. So they cannot feel for others’ pain.
It’s so simple. You can talk until the cows go home, but if the student cannot feel his own heart, he cannot feel, he is numbed. How to feel one’s heart? Meditation. I guess this is something even school leaders dun know. Because they never practice meditation in their own entire lives. But I do.

But how many parents have the luxury of being able to choose the right school for their kids? Worse if schools themselves are ignorant or are in self denial that bullying exist - the problem will not go away and little effort will be put in to solve the problem. But let's face it.. in recent weeks I hear about teachers themselves being bullied. 😅 Can those who are bullied help others who are being bullied? 😅

MOE statistics are definitely not accurate. And I don't think that they should hide behind the fact that the "statistics have not been going up" and start to look into other aspects such as improving the conditions for people to start reporting on incidents and not downplaying bullying in the first place. Verbal agrgession is still aggression, even when in the grounds that both parties seem to be on equal power dyanmics, but when the victim PERCEIVES that they are less powerful and the aggressor perceives that they are more powerful, it should still be considered bullying.

😮 With great respect to All Sides , school bullying normally committed by children from families with bad parenting or they themselves being abused by their parents! Lack of teaching children the Universal Laws of Cause & Effect would also be contributing factors that lead to selfish & thugish behaviour from these bullying children. All Primary & Secondary / High Schools should bring back the Civic & Social Science Subjects to educate children to stop being so self-centre & selfish & why we must treat others like the way we ourselves wanted to be treated! Ministry of Education ( MOE ) should hire experienced professional psychologists to planned out mental wellbeing curriculum & steps to be taken by School Principles & Teachers if bullying being reported in their respective class or school! School bullying can lead to serious injuries , deaths , producing mass revenge stabbings or killings & suicides among the school children! ... 🙏🕯🌏✌🕊🇸🇬🇲🇾

I think there should be more CCTVs being installed in school compounds and school buses, if they haven’t already. If there were no video recording, how much longer the child has to endure until something serious happen, such as suicide? So what if the percentage is small? A few cases could have gone unreported and nobody knew until it’s too late.
Then will the government say ok, we must install CCTVs. Wouldn’t that be too late? Don't wait for a child’s life to be taken before you do something drastic about it.

What are they even talking about? Bullying have existed for many many years. In fact, it was far worst During 90s and early 2000s time, bullying is worst especially in secondary schools when gangs and secret societies was a thing. Gang fights would always happen because of staring or some dumb reasons inside and outside school. Little bengs would tiao chui their members and you will see many bengs from different schools waiting outside the school as backup to fight. Shopping malls are flooded with these little pest bengs and they would pick fights with people for no reason. If you live in a certain area or wearing a sch uniform from one area, you are guranteed to kena "jio meng" and get whacked if you happen to go into a shopping mall from a different area as you would always be assumed to be from rival gang. Because of this very same reason, during that era, alot of youth who were once bullied actually resort to join gangs for protection, and end up learning how to fight back.
Also during that time, there was no Tiktok, mobile legends, K pop etc that turn youth into low self-esteem and low confidence kids who would only express how fierce they are online (aka keyboard warriors) and There were no social media to report on all the nonsense thats happening. You either survive or get rekt.
Now in this generation, "bengs" have weird K-pop hairstyles, mostly resort to online bullying/trolling or simply choose to bully people who are not their level. Try doing that in the 90s - 2000s and you will get your backside handed over to you after school very quick if the guy you are bullying happen to have friends or know people.
Now days the generation is very soft and fragile. Little bit complain, little bit make viral. Their parents are all soft and weak too. When i was in sec school, i got beated up in school once and when i went home my dad beat me again because I didnt fight back. Now days parents are very soft hence their offsprings are softer too and deserved to be bullied. I personally blame this on tiktok because they are making kids become soft.

So paremts need to be screened and the ones quilify for there carry liscence to be per day with protecting with same as presence to be per day volunteer parenting in schools. Making the example if they dont find a way. Emagine that way there cameras didnt record or glitched. Taking there frame by frame camera to compair to there so called top notch ones. And reliving the teachers of there stressful days. Also including there simple ways for gratitude per county per district of the school districts. Being also helpful. This way. If the hypothisis there year paycheck per child is a penny from a nickle they get paid per day at school for going threw what they go threw. Level of realism for guidance a low level problem calling bullying. And not topicing there during amd after school doings. Also the power would be able to stop the discussions about how bad schpols are then the enlightening ways for children to learn or volunteer to call elders at facilities to right down there stories or there simple comversations with guidlines and rules for even the top notch students if not following the credit per call or visit then the non graduation. Making sordove co op. Also a way to get funds to there actual future for the graduation balance for there community work. For a greater and more community community. Then the parents if not allowed to bring test frame by frame camera tomorrow then the factor of like some edit there videos. And not showing the true reason boys are koxed with girls at schools and they get a penny per time to pay there year parent bill for what the community put them threw instead of excelling for the ecosystem.

What is missing in today’s schools is meditation. Too many considerations and reasons regarding not introducing meditation in schools.
There have been tons of research being done already. Even LKY, after practising meditation due to his depression over his wife’s death, he even said that schools could offer meditation to children. Why is meditation so important?
What makes a bully act the way they do? It’s within their consciousness. There is something wrong there. Maybe due to some unpleasant experience at home? Or maybe it’s just their nature. But through meditation, one can raise one’s consciousness to a peaceful level. Once a person is peaceful, they will not want to bully anyone.
Meditation is such an important part of a child growing up. Because it gives emotional support to the child and help to stablish his behavior. Bullies have very unstable, weak and low consciousness. That’s why they bully. Any person, child or adult, once they feel peaceful. They see no reason to fight or cause trouble.
I know in some western schools, they are already offering such lessons for their students and these students grew up very well.
