Luca is honestly a masterpiece, it made me want to bawl my eyes out especially during the betrayal scene, alberto was such deep character and it was heartbreaking to see that he sacrificed something he holds dear for his friend, I really want a sequel just so I can finally see a scene where Alberto and Luca reunites again and they go off into crazy beautiful adventures.
In the scene where Luca and Alberto are arguing on the bike, they hit two old men having a chess game where the board gets turned around.I think this was a reference to “Gerry’s Game”, an old Pixar short about a man playing chess by himself
Luca's mom: If you promise to be safer than safe, then you can go to school Luca: Ok Also Luca: Hangs out of a train while holding on with only one arm.
I hated him for the part to I remember think what a bitch and then realised I would literally have done that too 🤣and that it seemed the most normal reaction cause I’m not risking my life for no one
As a person who ended up separating with my best friend for family reasons, this movie hit like a razor scooter on the ankles. I couldn’t help but cry a little at the end.
Yeah same, also too with me not haven’t a dad for reasons just like Alberto, though with my father he was pushed away by my family, he didn’t want to leave me,
I both agree and disagree, older animated movies had more realistic bodyshapes and suddle colors, but all animated movies today have cartoony bodies and vibrant colors. Take the croods and httyd, the first movies looked kinda realistic, but now in the sequels the colors and bodies look so different. Toothless' face is cartoony, and the big cat Chunky doesn't look the same (with a cleaner looking fur and plastic looking teeth). Tho Luca looks amazing, I wish not every animated movie had the same animation style
It wasn’t a giant masterpiece like some people expected it to be from pixar so some people thought it was a failure. I disagree so much with that statement. It has its own special moments, showing that being different from others (like the fishing father’s handicap with lacking an arm) isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It’s also a very lighthearted movie (for the most part) that focuses more on the excitement and awe that comes with discovering new places. It’s not a masterpiece or groundbreaking but it definitely was one of the most enjoyable movies I have watched in a long time and that’s the most important part.
Me and my Italian Dad watched this together last night and we absolutely loved it. My dad loved all the Italian parts and could even understand some of what they said even though he is not fluent in the language. We give it a 10/10!
He's not fluent?! Wow and i was trying to translate what he was saying by my sound in google now i know why i didn't get anything after trying maybe a thousand times! I really love Italy.. the place and people even the food which i aaallllllwaaaays order iam obsessed with pasta and pizza I wish i could visit it one day ✨

I myself am only a quarter Italian and have wanted to learn the language for years but unfortunately none of my schools offered it as a language course.
There’s an actual hidden Mickey in one of the scenes when Luca is dreaming about him and elberto riding a vaspa and if you look in the sky there’s a cloud shaped like mickeys face
My heart when Luca and Alberto stopped to help her. They were willing to put the race on hold to help her. They showed their true colors and I believe that’s why the town so easily trusted them. They weren’t selfish monsters. Ofc daddio helped, but still it’s one of the many reasons.
That's alright fellas the ending made me cry as well. But hey at least they'll get to see each other every summer. Edit: Oh daang never expect this to be my first 1k likes. 🇵🇭
Luca seems to enjoy school pretty well, though it still could be that he stays in Porto Rosso after the next summer. He still has a strong bond to his family and definitly misses them. He immigrated into Giulias environement in Genoa pretty well, even partly revealed his true identity, so he definitly feels comfortable there. Would love to see more.
@@derylyum5297 There won't be a Luca 2 (and I prefer it this way). Maybe we'll get books and comics which go a bit deeper, but this ending is still great. We don't need to know everything, sometimes it's better this way. Though yeah, for me this film could be endless.
I notice when they first jump off the ramp, you can see Alberto look pained when he sees Luca and Alberto split, foreshadowing the boys going different paths
OMGGG I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE THAT. THAT'S AMAZING FORESHADOWING. AND THE WAY LUCA PUSHED THE VESPA FOR IT TO SPLIT REPRESENTING HIS RESISTANCE TO GO WITH ALBERTO AND EXPLORE THE WORLD TOGETHER.
There are few correction to do in this video: 1) the name "Portorosso" stand for a mix of "Monterosso" and "Portovenere", the real italian locations (in Liguria) that inspired the atmospheres of the little town in the movie; Instead "porco rosso" stands for "red pig", during the WW2 comunists and partigiani were insulted by fascists with this name "porco rosso" that means "comunist pig" because the red colour was the symbol of comunists (like the URSS flag or the chinese one). IMHO porco rosso and porto rosso are just similar name and are not related, nothing more. Porco rosso is a ghibli film that speak about the fascism, it has nothing in common with Luca. 2) the boat name in "Gelsomina" is a reference to a Fellini"s muse "gelsomina" a.k.a. Giulietta Masina (Fellini is one of the most important regist in the italian cinema history)(in fact the also the girl's name in the film is Giulia); 3) The cat Machiavelli is a real and existent famous cat in the port of Genoa and its truel name is Seppia (check the facebook page of the cat Seppia, it is the mascotte of the port), 4) BONUS: Massimo and Giulia's surname is Marcovaldo: that's a reference to "Marcovaldo" a famous character in Italo Calvino's Novel "Le stagioni in città": in fact the name of the central square of porto rosso is indeed "Piazza Calvino". P.s.: forgive me for my bad English. Be merciful please.
Just saying I feel like we should definitely get a show of Luca at school he would get A+ in swimming and since were all ready in monster territory it could be like gravity falls or amphibia

I just realized that the reason maybe that the parents are so opposed to Luca going to the surface is maybe because that were kids during the 1940s when ww2 was happening so mines and u boats and battle ships would be patrolling and would leave a bad taste in there mouth and that also explains why the grand parents of Luca are not afraid of the surface as they were kids during the 1910 20s before WW2. But that is a theory

This film is absolutely beautiful for it's depth. There were several moments in this film's rising actions that I thought I knew what was coming, or a cliche to be expected.. I was dead wrong. Alberto dropping the umbrella and getting caught, Giulia's father's reaction to seeing the boys as monsters, both really caught me off guard and hit a few emotional cords. Pixar has been knocking it out of the park with their films and the trend is still going on strong. In the last 10 years I can easily say that Pixar has remained well above anything Disney has produced. For me, Pixar is pushing out the Disney magic I remember as a kid. I'd recommend Luca to anyone and everyone. 💯
Horrible ending. Ruined the movie. Terrible message, they say school is most important when its not lmao? Alberto is like his brother u can tell in the end he needed Luca, his family he left them for good just for school lmao??? So irrelevant he can study at the local library if he wants to learn abt thd world he is a sea monster he can survive underwater he doesnt need a education. Giulia's dad adopted Alberto so Luca should of stayed with Alberto and spent the days on the surface together and evenings underwater with his family. And the dad just started caring and his son is gone? They should of spread the message that family is most important not school bc for my peoples lives u can make a completely proper living without education but no he threw away his family for nothing. Alberto deserves better
@@gt-tt8px The message was not that school is most important it was the part of Lucas dream to learn about the world hence why he even went to the surface world. Albertos and Lucas goals became entirely different dude they had a fight because of it remember? My god dude the whole point of a coming of age story is to eventually branch AWAY from your parents to become a true individual. You've misunderstood the goals and drive the characters had in the movie.
@@calebnelson58 bro Luca is like 12 he still needs his family n ik I was just salty cuz I like their friendship and misunderstood thinking Luca won't come back but now I get he just leaving for the school year
@@gt-tt8px But he wanted an education and he wanted to learn more about the world and what's in it, hence his interest when Giulia talks about when she's in school and why he tells her to bring him back books to read. You can't possibly compare the education you'd get at a local library to one you get at a school. And Alberto doesn't need Luca, they made that pretty clear at the end of the movie. Alberto's father left him, and ultimately Alberto got what he wanted - a father figure with Giulia's dad who could spend his time helping out and learning from. Luca didn't share the same desire. His family also supported him going to school and literally everyone is happy with what happened as shown by the pictures in the credits. And Luca still does have family. Giulia and her mother. Family doesn't need to be genetic, and he keeps in contact with his parents and Alberto so I don't see the problem. And as the other commenter said, the goals of both of them differ wildly. As I've mentioned, Luca is very interested in learning more about the world, and you can see Alberto turn down Luca whenever Luca displays interest in schooling or education, it's just not for Alberto. Alberto is the one who wanted and needed the stable family life and he got that now that he's with Giulia's father and I'm sure he spends time with Luca's parents as well. I suggest you re-watch the movie, especially the scenes towards the end
This movie Changed my life forever. I've already wrote everywhere tonight after my fifth time watching the movie. How Luca inspired me to silence that stupid voice in my head that tells me I can't do things. To surround myself with people who genuinely care about my well-being and will listen to my problems and won't judge me for being me. It made me in touch with my emotions. Especially fear and sadness. The ending makes me cry every time. I have never felt as happy as I do. I have never felt as if I belong more than I do now. I know I can do what I put my mind too. I owe it all to this movie. I poured out in emotion to my friends that I know won't judge me. They were understanding. I finally feel like I belong. I Cherish this message and these words close.
Man Alberto looks so trashy in the trailer but man is it wrong to say he's a jerk the dude sacrifices himself twice for a friend who casted them out and Alberto doesn't have a father I feel very bad for him and its touching even though he's not real. Alberto is a 100 % my favorite character in this movie.
His character development was the best. Made me cry when he was betrayed by his friends, when he was willing to sacrifice his dreams for the sake of his friend's happiness. His ego, as well as his fear of being abandoned and alone got the best of him. But man, in the end, he still managed to sacrifice himself for the happiness of his friends.
Yeah ikr. And idc if I'm replying late. If it wasn't for Alberto, Luca wouldn't have seen the world, nor go to school. Alberto showed him a side of passion of him that he never knew he had. He wouldn't have discovered his love for stars/astrology if it wasn't for HIM. And sure, Alberto can be impulsive, senseless, and jealous sometimes, but let's be honest, he is the most realistic character in the entire movie. I'm so glad he changed and the end and sacrificed his dreams for Luca to go to school. And who knows, Luca might be a scientist for stars and make a good living for himself. Anything good Luca will do later in his life is because of Alberto, just because he encouraged him to get out of the sea and explore life. Luca should be extremely thankful that he met Alberto because he found himself. And I will forever appreciate Alberto for what he did. All thanks goes to Alberto.
I know a lot of people think this is drawing parallels with LGBTQ+phobia, but I felt like it had more to do with xenophobia. That would explain why Luca's parents didn't want him to go onto land, how they themselves referred to humans as land monsters, etc. It also makes more sense to me with the involuntary transformations, the way they reacted to the culture in that village, etc.
I just realized, that luca and Alberto are kinda opposites when it comes to their needs/wants,Alberto wants a family to hold on to,and luca wants his family to let go.
I actually had a thought about the end credit scene's fish, it being the one mentioned at the beginning by Luca while talking to Giuseppe named Enrico. Luca said that Enrico could be dead or out there somewhere. I'm not sure if this could be the case or not, I found it funny though

I love this movie. It has so much to say. You need to be yourself. People can look different, but variety is the spice of life. Acceptance starts with you and some people may follow your example.
Actually Portorosso is an actual town that exists, altho it's not in Italy but in Slovenia, the actual name of the place is Portorož but the Italians call it Portorosso. So yea just a fun fact.
He doesn’t move away from Alberto he goes to school and then in the summer he goes back to Alberto. Plus in the film juleta says she goes with her father in the summer
"Piacere, Girolamo Trombetta" it's a funny, non sense way to introduce yourself. I'm Italian and I've never really understood the meaning behind it. Girolamo is an unusual name, while trombetta means "little trumpet"
@@ragazzopigro97 Girolamo kinda souns like "giro" which is italian for turning/spinning. That's why during the "girolamo" part of the hand shake alberto spins Luca's hand around
Turning red's easter egg is in Giulia's room, there's a vinil that says 4⭐Villaggi, which in Italian means villages (similar to "town"), by that being a 4-town reference.
When I finished Luca I was so confused about the ending. The whole time the people were afraid of them and hunting them. And then, out of blue suddenly finds out there's bunch of the monsters in their town, right in from of their eyes and everyone is so okay with that? WHAT?!
When the strongest man in the village, the one most publicly dedicated to hunting sea monsters, steps up and defends sea monsters? People acknowledge that, and recognise that obviously if Captain Sea Monster Hunter is willing to *defend* sea monsters, that obviously they arent the monsters they were led believe. Not dissimilar to a lot of marginalised groups in modern society tbh.
I think is because many people in town see the effort of luca or alberto(sort of) when they practice for the race, they also the one who dare to step out against the bad guy. So when the fisherman father (i forgot his name) said the two sea monster is actually luca and alberto. People realise the sea monster is actually no different than human themselves. Also i think because as the father always be seen as the main figure for hunting the sea monster. When the hunter see him protect the sea monster. They may think the sea monster is important for him, his impression towards sea monster is wrong
this might be an Easter egg, but when luca was imagining going out to the surface but he couldnt get out the person on the boat looked like alberto's human form
This movie was so beautiful even the ending was so delightful and so happy which lead me happy tears. This has to be my most favorite Disney movie ever out of all the others this was totally worth it to watch god bless amen 🙏
Ok so people say that their “power” is that they turn into sea monsters when they get wet, that is half true, it’s the other way around. They become humans when they get DRY not the other way around, you can tell since their original forms are sea monsters

I'm still quite sure that this is Pixar's way to make a film that actually has an LGBTQ+ theme in it. I read that the director based it on his very special friendship during his youth, and that they didn't want to include a love story to make things difficult. But after seeing the film, I was like, this is so recognizable for people like us. For example: - Prejudice between two kinds of people (fear of the unknown) - Fear of revealing your true identity - The classic bully who picks on people who are different - The atmosphere between Luca and Alberto, how Alberto wants to be free with Luca (very romantic) and how he is jealous at Giulia when she spends time with Luca. - The classic kind of protective parents who don't really see who their child really is/ don't want their child to show their true selves out of love/protection - The true colors of Luca and Alberto are very colorful, reminds me of a rainbow. Their true inner selves are the color of a rainbow (hint, hint) - The two old ladies who reveal their true selves at the ending of the film felt for me like a coming-out - The stereotype of a hard working, masculin character who ends up being a softie, who learns that being different doesn't mean that it's bad - I can keep going on haha I mean, I expect to get a lot of hate for this comment (as being queer myself I'm used to it), but this film is waaaaaay to recognizable for me after coming-out, being afraid of showing my true self and I can't help to see Pixar's Luca as a queer film for kids (and hell yes, even grown ups). This film is simply heartwarming. Sorry for my long post. :-)
Although the movie has some very fruity scenes in it, a the movie has unfortunately been cast out as a movie that wasn’t supposed to be LGBTQ, some of the people working in it saw that people were interpreting it the wrong way and then publicly said it wasn’t 🏳️🌈. Sorry for putting down your idea, but your not the only one who thought of this, so it’s a common mistake :)
@@zehavathezamboni Pixar said that you can interpretate the story as you wish. They made the film with the idea that anyone who is different can recognize himself/herself in this story. I read some more about it since I posted my first comment. So personally, I now cannot unsee this film as a queer film. ;-) As "Queer" already is a general term used in the LGBTQ+ community, it represents everyone who is different. This doesn't necessarily have to do anything with sexual preference according to Luca's and Alberto's age (although I do sense a romantical atmosphere in this film between them), but still, I think Pixar's Luca has all the ingredients of a queer themed film. This doens't mean that I'm right or wrong about it. I didn't made this film or write the story, but I'm free to interpret this film my way, and you can think about the story your way. :-) It's what makes this Pixar film different of other ones: freedom of interpretation. Lots of people seem to think the same thing about Luca. I think it's just playing safe by Disney, I suppose. Still a lot of tolerance needed in this world until we can actually expect a "none-closeted " queer film for children. Took me years to find out about my true self, and I would have been happier if I discovered my "secret" a lot sooner. Films like these can make a difference for lots of people.
Apparently, Pixar was inspired by Hayao Miyazaki’s Ghibli movies which would explain why the movie WAS SOOO GOOOOD. Also u could see similar Ghibli art style in the end credits
This movie made me feel so many emotions and the ending where Luca leave was heart warming yet still kinda heartbreaking for me... In short it was a great movie that i shall never forget
It’s funny how people were saying this was gay and when certain members of the lgbtq were saying people were just mad cause it was but when the director confirmed it wasn’t they went silent. Men can be close friends without it being gay.
Death of the author trope - anything that's not made clear in the material itself, and is only said by the director and crew after the product is released, can be discarded. So the director saying something which isn't obvious in the movie can be shrugged off.

@@Camde667dotcom how do the characters look dumb?
I both agree and disagree, older animated movies had more realistic bodyshapes and suddle colors, but all animated movies today have cartoony bodies and vibrant colors. Take the croods and httyd, the first movies looked kinda realistic, but now in the sequels the colors and bodies look so different. Toothless' face is cartoony, and the big cat Chunky doesn't look the same (with a cleaner looking fur and plastic looking teeth). Tho Luca looks amazing, I wish not every animated movie had the same animation style
Personally i like how they look cause they look really like my early artstyle, round face round eyes roundish soft hair! 😀

There are few correction to do in this video:
1) the name "Portorosso" stand for a mix of "Monterosso" and "Portovenere", the real italian locations (in Liguria) that inspired the atmospheres of the little town in the movie;
Instead "porco rosso" stands for "red pig", during the WW2 comunists and partigiani were insulted by fascists with this name "porco rosso" that means "comunist pig" because the red colour was the symbol of comunists (like the URSS flag or the chinese one). IMHO porco rosso and porto rosso are just similar name and are not related, nothing more. Porco rosso is a ghibli film that speak about the fascism, it has nothing in common with Luca.
2) the boat name in "Gelsomina" is a reference to a Fellini"s muse "gelsomina" a.k.a. Giulietta Masina (Fellini is one of the most important regist in the italian cinema history)(in fact the also the girl's name in the film is Giulia);
3) The cat Machiavelli is a real and existent famous cat in the port of Genoa and its truel name is Seppia (check the facebook page of the cat Seppia, it is the mascotte of the port),
4) BONUS: Massimo and Giulia's surname is Marcovaldo: that's a reference to "Marcovaldo" a famous character in Italo Calvino's Novel "Le stagioni in città": in fact the name of the central square of porto rosso is indeed "Piazza Calvino".
P.s.: forgive me for my bad English. Be merciful please.

It's real. When the pandemic stops, get your ass to Cinque Terre and Portofino. Those places are amazing.
@@XDogeGamingX ik I just misunderstood thinking Luca was leaving for good not just for the school yr

Sorry for the bad grammar, auto correct

Honestly Luca feels like a really nice looking glass of Orange Juice.
Yea that’s about right
Exactlyyy it was such a refreshing movie from Pixar
i have never been so confused and yet completely agreed with something so much in my entire life. thankyou.
Cool and calm. Nothing completely crazy, but refreshing and timeless.
When I finished Luca I was so confused about the ending. The whole time the people were afraid of them and hunting them.
And then, out of blue suddenly finds out there's bunch of the monsters in their town, right in from of their eyes and everyone is so okay with that?
WHAT?!
that’s so crazy it’s like we’re going through that in society rn 😐
The ending clip when Luca left Alberto hit me hard, soon, I will relate to that 😢
“All Alberto wanted was to be wanted” 😔
I wish I had one friend like this, I cry every time at the ending so happy, yet so sad all in one
I loved this movie. And I'm ready to see what we get from "Turning Red"
Sraam
The ending made me tear up Alberto gave up his dreams so Luca can conquer his
@Oghost King yeah I know
this might be an Easter egg, but when luca was imagining going out to the surface but he couldnt get out the person on the boat looked like alberto's human form
it did! i thought it was him too.
the end caught me off guard. “and remember daddy loves you” made me shook, but it was fine xD
What do you mean haha where is this part?
@@pengyedAt the end of this video like right before the video fully ends
Luca betrays Alberto then instantly regrets it.
This movie was so beautiful even the ending was so delightful and so happy which lead me happy tears. This has to be my most favorite Disney movie ever out of all the others this was totally worth it to watch god bless amen 🙏
I haven't watched this movie yet, but based on this, I can tell that it's gonna be my favorite.
Ok so people say that their “power” is that they turn into sea monsters when they get wet, that is half true, it’s the other way around.
They become humans when they get DRY not the other way around, you can tell since their original forms are sea monsters
Don't let this comment distract you from the fact that democracy has proven itself to be a complete and utter failure. Throughout history, democracy has ruined thousands of lives due to it's corruptible nature. Democracy may pretend to be a fair and equal system of government but that is all a lie. Look at some of the democratic nations of the world. Look at the USA, a tyrannical and unstable nation with a population that has been divided due to stupid political parties. What about Libya? Libya tried to be a fair and equal nation under democracy, and dissolved into a chaotic mess. As a matter of fact, the original democratic system in Athens was completely based on privilege. When democracy was first created, you could only vote if you were a rich man. Ever since it's inception, democracy has always been corrupt. The system of democracy is an evil thing and all members of a Senate/Parliament/Congress should be executed for irreversibly fucking up the planet

This movie made me cry like a baby. It strung a chord in me like no other movie.
It will always have a special place in my heart.
Massimo is probably my favorite Disney/Pixar character now.
For example:
- Prejudice between two kinds of people (fear of the unknown)
- Fear of revealing your true identity
- The classic bully who picks on people who are different
- The atmosphere between Luca and Alberto, how Alberto wants to be free with Luca (very romantic) and how he is jealous at Giulia when she spends time with Luca.
- The classic kind of protective parents who don't really see who their child really is/ don't want their child to show their true selves out of love/protection
- The true colors of Luca and Alberto are very colorful, reminds me of a rainbow. Their true inner selves are the color of a rainbow (hint, hint)
- The two old ladies who reveal their true selves at the ending of the film felt for me like a coming-out
- The stereotype of a hard working, masculin character who ends up being a softie, who learns that being different doesn't mean that it's bad
- I can keep going on haha
I mean, I expect to get a lot of hate for this comment (as being queer myself I'm used to it), but this film is waaaaaay to recognizable for me after coming-out, being afraid of showing my true self and I can't help to see Pixar's Luca as a queer film for kids (and hell yes, even grown ups). This film is simply heartwarming.
Sorry for my long post. :-)
Yeah. Sadly they can't actually say it's LGBT otherwise they lose half their audience in Anti-gay countries. (E.g. China)
@@michaelangelo9971 You can add Hungary too now. :/
Also lucas colours in his fish form strikingly resemble the gay flag (the green white and blue one) and it was released in pride month
So personally, I now cannot unsee this film as a queer film. ;-)
As "Queer" already is a general term used in the LGBTQ+ community, it represents everyone who is different.
The final Easter egg was actually Gulia’s hair, evidenced by looking at the same hair texture
Luca is like alberto's little bro.
Death of the author trope - anything that's not made clear in the material itself, and is only said by the director and crew after the product is released, can be discarded. So the director saying something which isn't obvious in the movie can be shrugged off.
alberto is the best character
I watch Luca 3 times because of my little sister and I loved it every time but my sister is making me rewatch many times so now I’m kind of getting bored!
The Easter egg for “Turning Red” is like how Luca turns into a sea creature when he gets wet, but the when the girl gets happy she turns into a Panda.
Wjat girl
Just the fact that he knows all this knowledge on this one Pixar film is amazing, great job on the video!
the hat that alberto was wearing at the end is a easter egg to the director first short film la luna i think :D
(1:51) I am Italian and we call that card "otto di coppe", that in English should mean "eight of cups".
Solo io lo chiamo fante?
the ball was actually first seen in "Luxo Jr."
This made me cry 😞
Vrooooooom
The fish Luca’s uncle was talking to was the one Luca said was probably dead at the start I think
