  • The keyless cap is standard on a lot of BMW motorcycles fitted with the keyless system. These caps tend to go bad, you cannot open them anymore.
    Discover in this video how to deal with it and be able to fill the tank.

    My friend, I have struggled with a new R1250GSA keyless fuel cap. I thought it would need to be repaired by BMW. I found the same problems as you have. I learnt to press down on the cap when lifting the lever and now all is well. Any pressure difference between the tank and outside means the lock mechanism can't move (yes, BMW should fix it). In the meantime, just press down on the cap as you lift the lever. It worked for me and my bike, hopefully it will work for you too.

      You are right, that works sometimes, but I am not sure this is related to a pressure difference between in and out the tank. You have to do it even if the cap has just been opened. Anyway, you should replace it if it is still under the warranty...

      @@johnfarrell9116 That is correct. The ignition has to be turned off in order for the cap to be opened. This contributor clearly didn't read the manual.

    First, press the cap down BEFORE lifting the lever to open it and keep everything clean inside end
    only so slightly lubricated with some silicon of PTFE lubricant and this will prevent al lot of problems with the fuel cap lid.

    After watching your video (thanks!) I tried this. I noticed that if I tightened the ring too tightly, it wouldn't latch or open properly. If I took a bit of tension off (backed the bolts out 1/2 turn) it would function properly again.

      This, as soon as I loosened it a bit the stuck latch returned in normal position
      I’ll also take care of keeping it lubricated (being careful not dropping any lubricant in the tank)

    Just happened to me. Unfortunately 1 of the 2 bolts is stripped, so I guess I have to try an extractor to get that out.

    Too much electronics in BMW bikes, they need to back peddle a little and go back to key start and a key to open the tank. This is an Adventure bike, not a city bike so keep it simple BMW. The dealer told me to keep a WD40 on the bike, not acceptable BMW, get rid of the problem as customers pay a lot of money for a GS.

    What's the point of having a keyless locking fuel cap in the first place, when it's that easy to open without the key ???

    I'm not sure why this contributor didn't simply read the manual. The ignition must be turned off in order for the filler cap to be opened. The reason he is unable to open it is he turned the ignition on first. Sheesh!

    • @davidmcclelland4420
      @davidmcclelland4420 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only reason he turned the ignition on was simply to show us the filler cap wouldn't open.

      My F750GS used to open with the bike on or off (neutral or in gear), but now it does this. Guy at the dealership said they're known for crapping out once "the bike gets old." Mine is a 2019 with ~30k miles. I guess that's old?
