BMW S1000RR Wheelie Control Settings and Demonstration. Does it work and is it safe?

- Finally the video that demonstrate the BMW S1000RR wheelie control. Please keep in mind this is not a video for people that are pro's and that knows how to wheelie... I have been searching on how to adjust all the settings in order to do a safe wheelie, but there is very few examples out there. So, I decided to do my own testing.
Remember to be safe and wear your protective gear and always cover the rear brake as electronics can fail at any time.
In this video you will see the different settings of the wheelie control and how it controls the front wheel lifting from the ground. You will clearly see how high it actually let the bike wheelie before the electronics bring the wheel down again.
On the high wheelies possible setting, the bike will control the wheelie until the bike eventually runs out of revs before it will put the front wheel down. I'm still practicing changing to second gear while in the wheelie to see if the front wheel will stay in the air.
You can actually look beter than what you are with the wheelie control. I am still scared that the bike will loop with me with the traction control or wheelie control completely off as I'm not used to getting the bike and keeping it on the ballance point.
The wheelie control can be trusted as it is really controlling the front wheel from picking up too fast or too high.
Please Like the video, share and subscribe if you would like to see more.
I am always open to comments on improving so please do down below.
Amazing video. I just bought an S1k rr and I reached the break in mileage and now it has wheelie control. I was eager to use it but I wanted a tutorial. Could not recommend this video enough.
Great to hear!
This video is one of the best clear videos I found on internet. Thank you sir!

As someone whos been riding this bike with wheelie control on 1 for the last year. MY GOD the quickness of the pickup with it on 0 is insane!
Oh so it’s possible to do some proper wheelie with it set on 1 ? I have been riding mine for almost a year and I never activated wheelie control because I thought it would stop me from doing it.
@user-en8in4fb5i Yes it does! I have friends on pretty much all the major liter bikes (aprilia, kawasaki, yamaha, and suzuki) and the bmw is the only bike I've seen that'll actually let you ride it out. It depends on your throttle control, too much and it'll put it back down quickly. But if you modulate it well, I've been able to ride a wheelie up to 5th gear. The downside is that the max height you get (2 or 3 feet off the ground) is no where near what you'll get with it off so you'll be chasing it and pile on speed QUICKLY. I wouldn't call it a proper wheelie but it's a nice alternative to get the wheel up without the extra risk.
@@tannersmith8415 Do you find 1 a nice compromise where it will wheelie when mashing the throttle but not too much where it cant put the power down at all like with it off?
@whitegoodman7465 Yes! Setting 1 is good for getting some power down but also being able to wheelie. I created another riding mode for track and roll racing acceleration that has the setting set to 2. Setting 2 sets the wheel down and doesn't allow it to hold through gears which is a nice medium where it doesn't suck all the power like 3 but doesn't hold the wheel up like 1. I beat a stretched/tuned/weight reduced/lowered zx10 so it'll get the power down for sure
@@tannersmith8415 interesting. So 1 normally and if you tryna get down and race then 2? Can you switch these custom riding profile modes on the fly?
Finally found the answers I was looking for. Great work man and thanks for taking the risk to test these out and share your results. I have a brand new 2024 S1000RR M package and I have been wondering about the behavior of the wheelie control. I couldn’t bring myself to try these without at least getting an idea. Thanks again keep up the good work🫡
Glad to help!
Man I clicked on this video for some knowledge on wheelie control and as soon as I heard the accent and the road appeared I could tell you're from South Africa. Great video sir. I've subscribed.🙏
Thank you. Hope it was helpful.
Very nice done! It gave a perfect description of how this system works to every new possible customer of this bike
Glad you like it!
Rarely seen such a good video!
Thanks for the great explanation. You deserve much more reach!!
Keep up the good work.
Stay healthy and ride carefully.
Thanks. I'm still a beginner youtuber, but glad I can help some people.
El mejor video sin duda! 🎉 Acabo de adquirir la s1000r y quiero experiementar los caballitos pero me daba miedo (aún me tengo) pero su video aclara mucho! Excelente y gracias✌️
Nice. I pick up my 23 s1000XR next week. Big change from Dynamic and Dynamic pro on my 2018XR. I like…
Nice 👍
I have a base 2022 S1000RR with a full exhaust and brentune. I don't have Race Pro modes. I find the basic tc modes don't restrict wheelies at all. I can't use first gear at all from a roll. The front comes up so fast
It’s not for a 1000 it’s for the m1000
Thank you, really rare to see TFT adjustments function in reality.👍

Do your wheelies in second gear at 80-90kmh, it’s a lot safer and more controllable. Also try using your clutch instead of doing power wheelie’s, clutching up brings the front wheel up a lot slower and smoother than just whacking open the throttle. The trick is to rev up the engine the same as if your going to gear down but leave it in the same gear, the front wheel will come up nice and easy compared to power wheelies.
I have tried over and over, but can't get the front wheel to come up in second gear. I'm 93 Kg, maybe that's my problem. Lol
@@racermac1081 what bike are you riding
@@markmaker2488 the 2022 BMW S1000RR
@@racermac1081 you should definitely be able to wheelie that beast in second gear. You need to be cruising at around 7000-8000 rpm in second gear, clutch in then quick rev up to around 10-12000 and quickly let the clutch out. (Like you would when changing down to rev match) Keep your foot over rear brake just in case she comes up too quickly, (which it probably won’t in second, unless you redline it).
@@markmaker2488 I'll try that and maybe make a video and post it, then you can give me some tips on what I'm doing wrong. I never seem to get my bikes up in second and I've had the 2 previous gen BMW S1000RR as well.
absolutely informative video I have been looking everywhere online for an explanation this video is extremely useful thanks 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Glad it helped.
Congratulations about the video, very well explained, but I still have one doubt, if you accelerate the maximum with wheelie control working on minimum possible support, is there any possibility of the bike turning backwards ?
No unless it is on zero mode with no control i have a m1000rr and have it set on mode 1 it wont go as high as it would as it would as if it was on zero :)
@@duxongee1823 tnks man !!🙌🏾
@@JoãoPedroPrzz no problems mate :) mode 1 is the safest which i have found and i have the same setup as the gentleman who made this video ride safe :)
It depends a lot on what you set the TC as well. The TC setting will control how high the bike's front wheel will pick up.
Incredible! How about in 2nd gear?
That was a comprehensive guide. Cheers. Your video helped me a lot.
I have the same color scheme and model as you.
Glad it helped. This color scheme is awesome
Does this feature only work on power wheelies or are clutch wheelies also included in the feature
I think it will work on clutch wheelies as well, but I would not recommend it as the revs are going much higher and then there is not much control over the bike.
So it means you can accelerate as much as you want in Wheelie Control, but you can't fall backwards?
And does the machine brake on its own if you do fall too far backwards because you might have leaned too far backwards?
That’s what I’m trying to figure out, he never mentions if he’s full throttle or not smh
You can go full throttle and the engine will cut the Power just a bit to not lift the front
You go full throttle. The ecu control what hight it must lift and keep it around that hight, which in turn the ecu will control the throttle plate position maybe at 60-70% to keep that hight, even though your hand is at 100% open throttle.
Nice video, One question: If I turn off the traction control, does the wheelie control still working?
Thank you
No, then you can flip the bike.
can you flip the bike in mode 1 if you dip the clutch and give too much gas?
No, you will not on 0 TC. The TC level control how high the front wheel lifts up.
would be great if you could make a video on launch control. How does it work on race pro modes, if wheelie control is off or high wheelie possible. What is the difference if its on other modes say race, dynamic etc
I would definitely make a video on that, great idea, thanks. What I have seen is that the launch control only activates in Race mode and Race Pro modes, not the other Dynamic or Road modes.
The last wheelie at 12:20 is the maximum you can do with wheelie control? i was hoping for a bit higher wheelie
He was being conservative on the throttle. He respects the bike and isn’t a pro. With some more throttle input it does lift higher.
@@Aliscarchivehow do you know this? Do you own an s1000rr and tested it yourself?
@@videofrat3115 he literally said it multiple times in the video that he isn’t a pro rider and was doing wheelies within his means. I don’t own an S1000RR I have a Panigale V2S. But I ride with people that do and the angle is much higher when you’re not scared of the throttle. I’ve seen it with my eyeballs. All my friends use wheelie control. You don’t have to think you just rip RPM and it holds.
It's true, I'm not a pro, but the wheelie control helps to make it look like that... lol. I've noticed that when you adjust the TC on the dash from 0 to -2 or -3 the front wheel will pick up higher and can then even change to 2nd gear and it will still wheelie for a while. You can control your wheelie hight with the TC. Practice makes perfect.
@@racermac1081thank you! Very insightful comment about the tc
High mate great video, got a question I can't find anywhere,, just bought a 23 plate and noticed there is no traction control light flashing when the front wheel comes up ,, only when I lose traction in the rear,, couldn't see it flash in your video I don't think ,, is this right enough, thank mate
Not sure about that, but I think the bike's electronics are very clever in knowing when it is the front wheel that picks up and when it's the rear tire spinning.
Thank you so much for explaining this so precisely!
Glad you liked it.
very clear. thank you
for the RR 2024 have -7 until +7 levels, it's right ?
Excellent breakdown!! Exactly what I was looking for
Glad it was helpful!
On wheelie control 1 are you full throttle or do you have to manage it?
Go full throttle, it will pick up slowly
qwestion so wheelies control wont let you crash it will keep the bike down?
Yes, but remember electronics can also fail
Thank You So Much Ya Who . Really Appreciate You Making This Video . Much Respect & Safe Riding . 🙏
Great Details 👍 Thank You
My pleasure
@racermac1081 Thanks Mate
is there new video
Not yet, sorry. I already wanted to make a new video , but work is keeping me too busy. There is some new ways to adjust the perfect wheelie hight that I would like to demonstrate.
Can you please make a video on 2015 and upwards models thank you
The 2015 does not have wheelie control, unfortuanately my 2015 S1000RR got sponsered unwillingly to guys that wanted it more than I did one night.
tell me please Does the 2017 s1000rr have the same setup?
No, the 2017 is different. There's no wheelie control on them, but those models wheelie very easily anyway. I've had a 2015 and it picks the front wheel up easy, but you have to control the wheelie.
Great video
Thanks.
This vide9 was super helpful thankyou (biker nod) 😂
Glad it helped.
I came here, 2024, to say that this is the best video explanation of what S1000RR wheelie control 🛞 can do. Thanks for making this possible 🎉
Glad you liked it
Excellent video. Thank you.
Thanks.
You’re going wide open throttle? I didn’t have mine on race mode when I saw the video last and was able to get a little wheelie, but after I switched it to race mode I haven’t felt as confident with not flipping it lol
I had an R6 and I went down a tooth in the front and got it tuned for more low end power, and I went from being able to WOT it in any gear to almost flipping it the first time I went WOT the first time I did it with the new set up. So now I get nervous going WOT in low gears ngl lol. If I know I can WOT in first and this is what will happen I think I can actually work on getting over that fear and learning to wheelie correctly.
If you're in Race Pro with high wheelies possible setup and TC on main screen set to 0, you can confidently wot and it will pick up nice. Just don't get used to it and try the same thing with TC completely off. It's a death wish
@@racermac1081 soo with wheelie control on 1 , and tc on 0 it will lift up more so than what happened on the video?
Sorry to keep bugging you, I just wanna make sure I’m doing it safely without having to worry about flipping the bike at WOT. I wanna get used to the feeling of being in a decent little wheelie before I try to learn to do one without wheelie control or TC.
I truly appreciate the video and the reply!
@@DrSoKo. With wheelie control on 1 and TC on 0, it will pick up like in the video. I've got my wheelie control now on 1 and TC on -2 and it picks up a bit higher than in the video. The lower(-) the TC is adjusted, the higher the wheelie will be. The higher the TC(+) the lower the wheelie will be.
Glad I can be of help.
@@racermac1081 awesome! Thank you sir! You’ve really done me a huge favor and have helped me feel more confident on the bike! Take care sir, ride safe!

Any reason you have the DTC set to 0 as apposed to -7 for this video? And do you think it would make any difference? Thanks!
I Drive the Same RR and in My Opinion its better to do the wheelie with -4 / -5 ;)
No reason for having the DTC on 0, just been testing it on 0 so far
@@manuelbartenschlager8723 I'll try with the DTC on -4/-5 and see what difference it makes
@@manuelbartenschlager8723 are the wheelies higher then or does the front wheel come up more? 😬

Great video Jaco.
Thanks
New Sub here, amazing video, very clear; it should be used in the motorcycle schools ;)
Awesome, thank you!
Really nice video. Thank you so much )
Glad you liked it!
Which camera mount are you using?
It was a cheap mount from takelot.com that was shaking like crazy, but with a GoPro Max 360 camera that has great stabilization
Is race pro mode only for the M-Version?
No, mine is a 2022 S1000RR and also had it as stock
Wow, I can get my front wheel way higher with the "minimal support/high wheelie possible" on my single R. Maybe it's the better midrange, but even 2nd gear let's me come up by at least a foot.
That's nice. Yes, the single R has different gear ratio.
Great video explanation thank you 🙏
Glad it was helpful!
Nice video and explanation!
Hope it was helpful.
What year?
2022 model
Good info thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Retry the wheelie modes again but with ABS set to 2. At least for the M1000R, it needs - S1RR and MR are essentially the same:
Race pro mode
Engine 1
Wheelie 1
ABS 2
Great video!!
Thanks!
Thx for the video
Thank you for watching
Thank you
You're welcome
The only proper wheelie control I’ve tried is on Yamaha mt09 3rd gen. It’s weird why all the other manufacturers like Aprillia, Bmw, KTM couldn’t master this functionality.
I ended up on this video going down a Google, ChatGPT and TH-cam rabbit whole to see if anyone else does it like the MT09. My buddy has one and he can take a handful of throttle and it just holds the tire at a perfect wheelie height and he can ride it out as long as he has the power. He turned it off one time and looped it lol, so it’s definitely the LIF, not him.
I’m assuming the R1 LIF is the same?
It's all about DTC interference bro. Even on wheelie control 1 mode, the DTC interferes alott. It's just that sometimes it interferes quickly and sometimes too late that the rider get scared. DTC -7 will interfere late and +7 interferes as quickly as possible. I ride with DTC completely off which also disables the wheelie control. Ride safe ✌🏻️ 💯
Thanks, I saw it made a big difference. It's awesome.
U should try this video again and let somebody else wheelie it, with clutch.
Thanks bro.
The point of this video was to show that it is possible with this bike for someone that can not do wheelies to actually look good and still be safe.
Is that bloemfontein ?
No, just outside Bronkhorstspruit
Drop clutch on wheely control
I would not do that, unless I want to lay on my back... looking at the sky.
Nice ultimate riding machine
It sure is!
nice vedios
Good Vid! Ty!
Pleasure.
Have you tried this out in 2nd gear?
I didn't have any luck with the front wheel picking up in 2nd gear, other people make it look so easy...
Guess they have no warehouse parking lots where you live
No, not at all. It's a small town.
my left ear liked to video
Use 2nd gear boss, got plenty of power and much smoother and easier to control
I have tried 2nd gear. Mine is not flashed and it seems like the front wheel does not want to come up at all in 2nd gear. My previous gen S1000RR front wheel came up much easier than this model.
all i want to know is......who is the man standing on a gas can?
What?!? A wheelie button!!! This is the closest thing to an ez button for wheelies lmfao what a world we live in. My 04 636 stunt bike is a dinosaur
Dankie! Hierdie help baie
Plesier! As jy die traction control level op die main race screen af stel onder 0 lig die voor wiel nog meer op.
More speed more easy
Low speed more hard .
You call it wheelie?? 😜😄
No, rather sissy control... lol
So when you want drive wheelie you ned too turn this shit off
My bitch wont come up in second gear, my R1 16' I could blip down and up and it would roll up effortlessly; wtf am I doing wrong.
Don't worry, you're not the only one struggling in 2nd grade. My previous 2015 S1000RR could come up nice in 2nd gear, but I'm struggling with this one. I also don't know why.
@racermac1081 dude it's mad confusing have you tuned yours out yet? Because I'm only seeing clutch ups being the move but im not a fan.
My r1 was like butter smooth and controllable.
@mattmoto No, it's not tuned, but the guy at the shop told me that there is no flat spot on our bikes in 2nd here in South Africa. On the dyno, it pulled a rather straight line with no dip. I've got a video on my dyno results, but I just don't know why it's not picking up in 2nd. It must clearly be down on power.
@racermac1081 cap... run it out to 8k twice today and it's there. It feels like 50torq before that... the r1 had like 78 through the whole gear it has to be that.
@@racermac1081 I'm gonna do a video and bitch about it... see if it I can get some positive or critical answers.
Never, with your ability, never, do a wheely in first with such a bike
