I was with you until 8:08. If you're gonna have your friends bid on your car with the intent to inflate its value (i.e. not buy it), then you and your friend get exactly what you deserve.
Its to point out that happens in auction style bidding. Probably happens on ebay too. But BaT makes 5%, so if its a 50K car... at 49000, Bat can froce the sale by reducing their $2500 take, down to a measily $1500. So you are right, bid pushers that know thr reserve can be caught!
You know this is happening on every auction with a reserve though correct? It is the most basic of tactics. The commenters never buy. Usually a bidding war between two to three friends and then two fight it out at the end to get over reserve. Go look at the bidding histories. I have also personally won a no reserve auction and been denied the car because of “server issues”. The world of dealing cars is greasy.
Hmmm. My experience (just one data point) was very good with BAT. I bought a Jeep via their auction and got a great deal (in my opinion). Seller seemed happy, too. Jeep was out of state, so the seller had access to a much wider audience than usual and the fees were pretty typical of other auctions. If they settle out the commission with their money, the seller still gets the sale at their reserve price. They have a target seller/buy in mind, so they refuse lots of vehicles so the website doesn't get over crowded. They also organize a trailer service that I used to get my Jeep out to my place that was very competitive and very high quality. Whole transaction was pretty smooth. Just my two cents.
EXACTLY the same experience I had trying to list my 100 series for sale on their site. I wanted to set a reserve of $29k and on it and they wouldn’t take it for anything more than a $26k reserve. Even sent me links to other 100 series that have sold that were nowhere near the level of modifications and conditions as mine. Very disappointing!
understand the ideal behind auction. auction will give you the most buyers in one place and one sell. I list on craigslist and deal with 100 boneheads, scammers, dreamers, and traders that show up with a couple of weed wackers. when i am trying to make a buy i am always dealing with that guy that says "these things are selling for $$$ or claim its worth $$$$. i try to get them to understand that those are listing price not selling price and your 1969 Malibu is 70k away from being that 50K 1969 Chevelle 396 SS that sold at Barrett Jacksons
Had an issue with BAT. With a car that was actually wrecked but listed as clean no accidents. Bat not helpful but someone bid it up way past a real price so i was off the hook.
Interesting point at 3:00 I wonder how many of these auctions end on the site then disolve afterwards because the high bidder wants to come see it and changes their mind even if it means forfeiting the 5%.
They shot me down on my very nice 79 Ford 150 big block supercab short bed with no reason. You'd think they let you know if they had a problem with the info, pictures, reserve? They need some competition
Your 150 sounds nice! Yeah, BaT wants guaranteed payment, hence low reserve. They care abiut their pocket book, not their customers. Imagine selling a house and your realtor tells you they will only represent if you have a lower than market reserve.
yea I had a similar thing happen to me but it was a jeep never been off the blacktop in its 60K miles I put on it. I even re summited it with no reserve and they were not interested. Something to the fact they have to many of those modified type for sale. I also told them I had others too. Nice video thanks for the info.
My thing is your basically buying a car sight unseen....I’m sure there are some that can go and look at them...For the ones that can’t and go by photos , what happens if the car is not what they say it is ? I know on eBay you are protected somewhat ...
True. Since this video, I did buy a vehicle on BaT. I believe it worked to ky advantage, as the seller had a low reserve (as likely requested by BaT) and I hit the mark just above their reserve. So I got a great price, seller thought it was going to be higher... and luckly vehicle was as described! Great place to buy, as for selling... only good if you arr comfortable with the reserve price.
I did. They have the same 5%. But I didn't contact them to post, so can't say what they would have said about the reserve price. They are just too new, and not as big as BaT.
@@CruisingTheLand Yeah, it was clearly a guy hiding shady stuff on that Trooper. I was throwing transparency on a hustle. DeMuro suspended my comments for a few days. And erased a few comments. If you read the thread, you can smell the stink. As a lifelong car guy, I'm very disappointed at what Demuro did. Hemming was a profit enterprise, you never saw them doing this crap. I'm wondering when people like Jay Leno will start seeing them for what they are. This ain't Hemmings classified. This is used car sales.
BaT needs competition! Thanks for the head's up. I did discover they have an anti-sniper auction method, so that's good but not good enough, lol. Skipping Bring-a-Lawyer (Oops) loool
Thats a beauty of a fj62. Toyota prices going insane. 1st gen 4runner with the auto and the 3.0 with 266k sold for 26k.. thats insane to me. It was the cleanest looking 266k mile vehicle tho. Just shows how Bat is so inflated
@@CruisingTheLand you still thinking of selling the vortec swapped fj? Definitely the best power and parts availability for the money i dont care what toyota purist say
Which part? In BaT, they dictate your reserve price, so if you want 25k, but they say, no... we will post your vehicle only if you set reserve at 15k (that means once bidding reaches 15k, you are committed to sell!) Thats what they said to me .. I sold my Landcruiser for 26.5k on Craigslist. Much easier and got my price. BaT doesnt care if you make your price, they want their 5%. If your auction goes reserve not met, then Bat doesnt make their 5%. Hope that makes it more clear. Feel free to ask specific questions.
@@CruisingTheLand ok. For numbers sake, you want & know you can sell for $20k, %5 is $1000. If they don’t agree, meaning your car won’t sell & they get $0 So they dictate a lower reserve to heighten the likelihood of sale so they get 5% right? For example, new reserve is $19k. %5 is $950. Who pays this? Does a difference exist between what you get paid($19k minus their 5%, 950) or does the buy pay $19,950? So my take is, they only want cars that have highest likelihood of sale, to claim 5% So they basically called it overpriced. “High baller” lol
The 5% is paid by Buyer. Seller pays fixed posting fee. So for every 1k less to the seller, represents only $50 to Bat. So the question begs.. if you know your vehicle will fetch 30k, but Bat will only take your auction with a reserve of 20k, they will forfeit 5% x 10k ($500), but you will lose 10k. Lile I said, they wanted 15k reserve on a truck I already had offers for 25k. It is their platform and they call the shots... just they arent the only game in town.

I believe the buyer experience is better than the seller experience with BaT.
I really appreciate this overview of your experience with BAT! Wells spoken and entertaining too. Thanks!

Yes.. beware of BAT..
There are services that a local guy can go verify the vehicle. Inspection.
Would want a look underneath for rust. And oil leaks.. smoke smell.. and paint thickness to feel better
With porsche a DME report tells me a lot
Thanks for posting this valuable information. I won't even bother.

I am glad i saw your video before i listed my subaru STI. Might sell on auto trader then

Thanks for the skinny on BAT! I will pass on BAT, for selling or buying!
He just explained that its perfect for buying, the company is forcing sellers to sell for less. That means if you bid right youll get a steal on a car

Can you look at ads before you join ?
yes
Hey man, great video! Any other Toyota for sale?
Yes, I have a 1997 FZJ80 California Land Cruiser for sale
Have you looked at cars and bids?

Yes, the 62 ended up selling for 27k. Went to the right buyer. The red FJ40 behind it, got traded for the ultimate HZJ73 (video on my channel)
@@CruisingTheLand you still thinking of selling the vortec swapped fj? Definitely the best power and parts availability for the money i dont care what toyota purist say
They relist if your buyer flakes.... your friend bid comment would constitute fraud though.... not cool.
they dont relist.
They will contact the next closest bidder to offer to them. Maybe with the 5% they make, BaT gives the difference to the seller too.
Hello, is this still for sale?
The FJ62 sold, but the FJ40 is available.
Ah for sure, nice collection! thank you.
is this still available?
That cruiser sold.
I will sell my RHD diesel HJ61 at some.point, but having too much fun with it right now...
If thy don’t expect your reserve do thy still take the $99 fee ?
Yes.. but if its within 1k, sometimes they will make up the difference if its a 40k sale in the buyers 5%
Thx

8:20 admitting to shill bidding|?! Disgraceful. Truly.
it's an example that it can happen. I have never sold on BaT, but I did buy last January.
There are shill bidders on BAT as well as the other websites. I got scammed once.
