Great video. I have just today replaced the control thermostat on an older BUNN VPR model after reading, downloading the manuals, and watching a few videos. It took a while to understand how the coffee maker works, even though it’s fairly simple!
I wish I had seen this video first. Great to see the continuity testing. I slowed it down to be able to follow the video. (Yes, I know that many people speed videos up!).
QUESTION: I noticed that the flow-through nut holding the water pan in place was just finger-tight. I was unsure of that, so I put it finger tight (according to the unremarkable strength in my fingers) and then added about a quarter turn with a wrench, thinking that’s a standard approach. Do you think that was a mistake, and will it matter?
One minor comment is that I would have benefited from some comments as you were going through the steps. Because I don’t often do these jobs, understanding the thought processes is helpful. But I saw someone else comment that there was too much detail, so there is no perfect approach!
Thanks for posting this. Interesting, humorous and helpful!

Hi. Sorry for the late reply. I wasn't receiving comment notifications. You are correct. The nut should be tightened. It's been a while since filming but using the wrench might have been cut for time. Thank you for the comment. I'll be sure to include more information as to the "why" in my upcoming project. Thanks for watching!

I’m very grateful for your response.
I did this work to help a nonprofit lawn bowling club, and paid for the parts myself. So like you, it was to help the community. It was outside my experience, but your video was very helpful. It is still working well. These small jobs really matter. And we can choose not to be wasteful.

I agree. Volunteering to help the community is a blessing. Thank you for sharing and I'm happy to hear it's still working.

Thanks! - That’s my South Bend. It’s been sitting while I finish all these other projects. I’m almost done with the Bridgeport and then it’s back to the South Bend.

Where can I order parts from, I need the switch to turn the main coffee maker on. So I swap the top to the bottom & I noticed the warmer on the right also doesn't work.

You should have bought the gasket too.

Hi. All the tank gaskets are new. The old tank gasket was damaged from years of use. Thanks for watching!

Your meter told you the protection device was fine and the heater element was burnt up. Heaters by NEC should have two protection devices, most have a thermal fuse and a bi-metal snap switch for your protection.

Hi Larry. That’s an interesting observation. Although not mentioned, the circuit for the heater has the bi-metal thermal snap switch (as shown), an operational thermostat with off switch, the units cord is three feet long for a means of disconnect, and is protected by 20 amp circuit with breaker as instructed by the unit label. The coffee maker as designed has the UL symbol of approval. All that said I am familiar with the NEC and what you’re talking about. You raise a good point. I just don’t have a good answer for you. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
