    Did this successfully today. I have done it with relative success in past but your two tips really helped. Marking the lock with magic marker so you know where to work is key. Then using a dremel to file down the strike plate is huge time saver. I used a file in the past but the dremel makes short work of it. Thanks mang!

    I install smart door locks for living. And this is particularly crucial for smooth operation otherwise you wear out the batteries or worse at the lock won't work. I was really hoping you would show us how to get the door to close further by adjusting the lower knob. I do like using the marker as a bling agent to see where it's hitting. Brilliant

      Inside the metal plate that is screwed to the door jam, there's a little tab in there, you can stick a screwdriver in there and pry that tab out a little bit until it latches firmly with no slack. If that doesn't work, send me some pictures to sweetprojectcars@gmail.com and we will see if we can get you pointed in the right direction my friend. Also, no worry about the bacon, that aluminum foil is made for the heat, no leaching. I use the Dremel for that kind of thing all the time, it’s a great hack. But now about the bacon, I bake my bacon all the time. It’s the easiest no mess way to go, and the bacon stays flat. The only thing I would recommend is after you put down the aluminum foil, cut a piece of parchment paper and put that over the aluminum foil and lay the bacon on the parchment paper so it’s not touching the aluminum foil. Aluminum foil has one of the highest transfer rates of aluminum to food, especially with that high of a contact. It can lead to Alzheimer’s in the future. Never cook any food in direct contact with aluminum foil. Peace

    When he closes the door to fully latched you can hear a double clck. The second click is th anti-jimmy pin. The anti-jimmy pin should not be engaged in the stike plate. When its in the strike plate opening the door can be opened with a credit card.

    I used the bacon grease on my deadbolt and it slides even smoother😜
    Before Dremels we used to put the ball end of a ball peen hammer against the strike plate and wallop the flat face with a rubber mallet and it would open up the hole so the dead bolt fit looser.

    Here's another quick tip: if you DO decide that you want to move the holes slightly left or right, you can just take some matchsticks, cut off the heads then jam, hammer to seat or break them off into the holes that were drilled. then fill with wood glue from a dropper. Now you can drill without worrying about cracking, splitting or the drill bit walking back in and following the original hole.

    I did customer service for many years with a large construction company. I figured out that message many years ago by marking the bolt with white caulking then letting the boat hit the striker plate and then trimming the striker plate appropriately. In some cases I actually had to remove the striker plate and trim the wood behind it and then put the striker plate back but I always got it to work smoothly.

      Thank you for your comment, can you please explain to me how lubrication is going to line up the deadbolt pocket with the deadbolt??? If you have a lubrication that will move the deadbolt up 1/8" so it goes smoothly into the pocket, we want to know about this lube because it would be almost magical like maybe this amzn.to/4d2Jys7 . It’s a good place to start. But in my case the alignment is off to the point where the bolt reaches the edge of the plate.
    So it definitely needs to be repositioned so I wouldn’t call it a waste of time if filing won’t do the trick.

      Glad we could help Jaime! As far as mosquitos, we use this amzn.to/3P4KZd7 for outdoors and you can even use one of them indoors once a week and rid your house of about every bug you have :) Mind you, these are great when you are outside sitting around your patio, but for a larger area, make sure there is the least amount of standing water, then use this amzn.to/3urDBAB it's what we use here in the jungles of Florida :) Thank you for watching, have a great week my friend. If you have to move a striker plate in are worried about the screws trying to go back in the old holes, put a wooden match stick in the old screw hole and then put the screw next to the wooden matchstick.

    Hoo boy you're not kidding about the screws wanting to go back to the old holes. Had that happen a few years back until I'd about filled the whole darned hole with wood filler and redrilled everything 😅

    • @Marcoosianism
      @Marcoosianism 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To fill the old screw hole try drilling it out with a 1/4" drill bit then tapping in a 1/4" dowel with wood glue and levelling it smooth when dry. You can now carefully drill your new hole without the bit slipping into the old hole.

    • @MrKnowItAllGuru

    • @alexguzman5547
      @alexguzman5547 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Marcoosianism oh it wasn't so much the bit wanting to go back to the old holes as the screws themselves. The wood of the frame had been cut in a really poor way to create the hole for the lock's bolt (looked like someone missed their mark and decided to use a chisel instead) so even after plugging the old holes the screws would either burst out into the hole for the bolt, or would push the plugs enough to wiggle. Replacing part of the frame was something we considered, but everyone else was dithering about it so I got fed up with it and went to the hardware and fixed it up the best way that I could 😅

    • @Marcoosianism
      @Marcoosianism 2 ปีที่แล้ว
