    They are climbing up this thing before the bolts are even torqued down? Not only that but adding more sections at the same time? Absolutely insane! How can that be strong enough?? And that chopper pilot is freaking good.

    • @workaholic7270
      @workaholic7270 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Back when I climbed towers, roughly 2 years ago, we always built towers loose. You just try to get a full nut on the bolt, and add the next section, all the way to the top. Then tighten everything up from the top to the ground. I know it sounds sketchy, but if the steel is put together tight, the next sections are harder to get to line up.

    • @andyeverett1957
      @andyeverett1957 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My thoughts exactly. Hope the engineers who designed this tower specified exactly how it was to be built? Tighten bolts then next section? Please slow down the chopper just a bit. If they drop that torque wrench its a long climb down to get it, 4 feet in the ground?

    • @CritterFritter
      @CritterFritter 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Perhaps the vertical compression helps snug the headspace with successive sections - then torque the connection to specs? Yeah, looks mighty stressful regardless.

      The weight will keep them secured along with the bolts and nuts.. Washers are good for moving parts. With static structures like this don't need any?

    I would want those tools tethered to the tower in case I dropped one. It would be a long climb down and back up to retrieve one.

    The tower sections have to have perfect tolerances, to make sure they slip right into place. Just took a couple taps of the hammer to make the bolts go through.

      I can’t tell you how many bolts I’ve made go in the hole with a 4lb sledge 300’ up building towers

    Who ever drops the wrench has to go down and bring it back up.

      I was really surprised that the wrench wasn't on a string or rope.

      @@GavCritchley They probably were aware, it's just slower to hook it up to the tower, torque the bolt, unhook, do the other side. notice they did use it to clip it to their tool bag when they are done a section.
