    Does this coffee maker even make sense? Let me know what you think 🤔

    I had an original tan/brown Aromaboy while in school back in the early 80's...loved it! Lived with two roommates at the time and we gave that machine a workout daily.The coffee tasted great! It's perfect for a single household or for an RV, while the small footprint makes it great for even the smallest counterspaces. Comparing it to a Moccamaster though is a bit unfair: a better comparison would be with any of the smaller cup machines on the market, like the Cuisinart or Capresso models..

    I got one just due to the nostalgic colour and design. I replaced the basket with a glass Kalita 155 and the brews improved quite a bit! (The Kalita lends itself to the central pour that the aromaboy delivers)

      I have also been experimenting with the 155. It does work quite well!

      @@coffeechronicler Would it also do any meaningfull difference to pour boiling water into the machine? I foudn a used deal on both a 155 + filters and the machine.

    I have an old one from my grandparents, started using it during covid as an alternative to manual pour over in the morning and I love it, it takes some finessing but once you have your routine down it does pretty decently!

      I wouldn't be surprised if the vintage ones became collector's items soon 😉

      I got one from my grandmother too! She even gave me a box of unopened filters from decades ago and I’ve been using them and they’ve been fine tbh

    I got a story with this one. Every time I went to the nearest city, I went to a hardware store for materials etc. They had an Aromaboy there at a shelf. First time I laughed. Second time I thought that would be fun, but the price was too high for the novelty. Next time it was on a 50% sale, and I bought it! I'm sure it was the same exact one each time too ☕😊 love mine. Whenever I don't feel like brewing a V60, I go for this one.

  • @harrybrown4626

    I have this aromaboy and I absolutely love it. I only drink one cup a day and always start brewing as I make my breakfast - the main benefit for me (over a V60), is that I can put it on and forget about it while I cook or look after the kids, then the coffee is still hot when I need it.
    I got it on sale, and it’s the best £25 I’ve ever spent!
    I do also have a moccamaster, but it’s rarely used as I’m the only coffee drinker in the house.

    I got one and love it, what a super fun video a miniature Aroma Boy vs Moccamaster, well done and so much fun to watch

  • @CaveyMoth
    @CaveyMoth ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It looks like the Aromaboy would only do well with dark roasted beans because of its low brewing temperature. Or perhaps adding hot water to the reservoir could help get around the temperature limitation.

    I picked one up last year and although it’s not a daily driver, its tiny size means it can live alongside all the others without resenting the space taken. I have been dropping an Aeropress filter onto the grounds to reduce the channelling, which seems to help. One feature that attracted me to it in the first place was the power switch. Its ‘retro’ nature means you can leave it in the on position, then turn on the power with a timer or smart switch.
    It makes me feel like the Captain of the Enterprise to be able to wake up in the morning, stretch and say “Computer, make me a coffee”. It’s even small enough to sit on the bedside cabinet - although then I’d never get up in time for work.

    • @coffeechronicler
      @coffeechronicler  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good idea with the Aeropress filter, have to try that!

    It'd be more fitting to compare it against a Moccamaster Cup One - the bed that my Cup One produces also has a gaping hole in the middle, btw, as it doesn't have a shower head but a simple tube that really only pours in one spot.. I have both and I actually prefer the Aromaboy over the Moccamaster, even though I haven't used either in years. Price of the Melitta has nearly doubled since I got mine.
    Not sure if it was needed to use different filters with Aromaboy - the original 100s are perfectly okay. I actually don't mind Melitta filters in general and they have some interesting options for size 4.
    Thank you for the video.

      I've been considering that one, too, but I hear the brewing spout doesn't spread the water evenly on the grounds, it just comes straight down. Saw a number of reviews that had trouble with that model, too, so it may not be worth the steep price.
      *This* brewer, the Aromaboy, seems like a more budget friendly one-cup brewer that also comes with an equally compelling design for your countertop aesthetic.

      @benjaminm.81 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JeremyJohnson27 Most coffee machines - including the Moccamaster Cup One - don't really spread the water evenly. It's really not that big of a deal: Results matter, not the way the coffee bed looks after brewing. The Aromaboy can make a good cup of coffee.

  • @erikolufandersen
    @erikolufandersen ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I might be wrong, but would it not be a more fair comparison, if you ran both at full/ near full capacity? Im sure the trusted Moccamaster would come out on top again, its just that i personally, have a hard time getting the best out of my moccamaster, running under 1 liter.

    • @coffeechronicler
      @coffeechronicler  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right about that point, but I knew that the Moccamaster is faster to get to temperature even with a smaller batch proportionally, so thought this was okay since the Moccamaster was such a big favorite for this lineup.

    That is cute but unusable to me, but I want it for sure, if it is 50$ or less on ebay, why not, I love collecting coffee stuff.
    Can you share with us the country of origin?
    I am obsessed with that, dying to know who was actually building the Coffee machines of the 70's and 80's (my parents generation) before I came into coffee in the 90's with Oster/Mr Coffee with that huge plant they have in China (Discovery profiled them 10 years ago)
