Hey! FYI Korg just released a major firmware update addressing the sync issue I mention in the video, as well as adding a ton of effects and other features - check out their site for more details
Does that mean loop recording will start on the one like the RC-505? If yes, that makes this much more attractive for me. Last thing we need is overdub!
@@spectralknights2 At the first glance, this comment is ticking all the "I don't like it when people don't follow the rules I made up in my own head" boxes.
For $1000 I would have expected. Korg to combine the Kaossilator Pro with The KP3 and the Kaoss Quad’s ability to layer in 4 effects, plus sequencer. For 1K, that makes sense. For the typical $400-$450 retail this is all I would expect from the Kaoss Replay. I have collected every Kaoss Pad since KP2. It’s been years since we have seen a proper Kaoss Pad and while this looks pretty damn cool, the entry price is literally insane. Reminds me of the Korg Micro Sampler debacle when it was originally $600 - $800 and then Korg saw “reality” called the “market” and that price dropped down to a nice $300.
"For $1000 ...Korg to combine the Kaossilator Pro with The KP3 and the Kaoss Quad" and the faderboard. (if rodec and sherman can...) i went "finally!" ....then i saw the price
Definitely doesn’t fit into what I think the Kaos Pads were. They were always geared towards DJs and Dawless performers. They added to your setup. This seems more stand alone. Should have multiple inputs and outputs. Where you can run a couple pieces of gear through it or connect send/returns in a mixer. Have separate effects for each input along with global effects. Use the pads more like the Pioneer DJS-1000 (DJ Sampler) to live loop or load prepared loops. DJ software covers this now a days but for dawlless performers it would great for transitions, etc.
Considering even $5 Chinese cheapo goods have USB-C now, the use of Micro USB screams "We're trying to get rid of old stock in current goods instead of taking a loss recycling them."
There has so be a damn good reason for people to choose this over an MPC or 404. I didn't see one unfortunately. Excellent video as usual. This will likely go over like the Beat Thang did.
Hold up!!! The beat thung was actually unusable. This one will see some use from some hardcore fx users for live performances. This product is apar with toraiz stuff, but not beat thang.
Great review for prospective buyers. I'm glad you warned multiple times that there's no guarantee that Korg will make firmware improvements. They often don't. To me, the most concerning oversight is not being able to zoom in on the waveform when editing samples or setting cue points. It's baffling.
@@sub-jec-tiv According to specs, it can do up 100 minutes of regular recording. 100 minutes of 48kHz 16-bit audio is probably around 1.1GB. I'm guessing that it may not have more RAM than an MPC One/Live, too, aside from far less functionality. DJs really overpay for their gear, wow.
1100 euros? Love Korg and got lots of their gear but they have lost their minds on pricing recently with the Minilogue Bass for 800 and the Raspberry Pi powered MKII stuff they launched for 900. Soon as I saw the thumbnail I clicked because I love these sorts of things but for that price I´d rather get a second SP-404 MK2, or even a third, or pair one with an ipad. So many other options for less money. I really thought with the way the economy is at the moment Korg would be smart enough to focus on some new Volcas at a good price point to keep up with Rolands compact range (the S1 is the bargain of the century), a proper keyboard sampler perhaps? Or throwing an M1/Microkorg/Triton or something into a mini box. Plus being Korg you can bet they will drop updates like a hot stone after 12 months and all of their stuff has bugs and issues. I actually bought and sold my SP-404 MK2 and then bought another because Roland added the features I needed in the 3.0 update a couple of years after launch. Every time I want to connect something Korg to my computer I have to jump through several hoops to get it to work.
Yes, Raspberry Pi synths with more processing power than 99.9999% of digital hardware synths (non-workstation) out there. I'm assuming that the Waldorf Quantum and Iridium are the exceptions.
Imagine if Korg poured all the features of the Electribe 2 Sampler (E2S, E2Sampler) into this, including scales (note filtering), jump step, ton of synth oscillators, Arppregatiors, sequencer, phrase sampling, transpose. Then allow one to play 4 effects at the same time like in the quad (yes, I love the Kaoss quad). But I have a feeling Korg is going to make the same mistake they made with the Electribe 2 (E2). The Electribe 2 was originally a complete synth and sampling system but was nerfed for different uses. The E2 was just a synth and only synth features worked on it. The E2Sampler was a sample player that allowed you to play a single one shot all across the keys in the note and scale you chose and some fun edgy oscillators switched on. But all other oscillators and special filters were switched off. The E2 came out first and a year later the E2Sampler. It wasnt until the Sampler’s release when savy hackers discovered that they could change out the synth firmware to the sampler one on their E2. This angered Korg. A couple years ago someone did a new Firmware hack (Hacktribe) that unlocked EVERYTHING in the E2 which uncovered more oscillators, the sampler, more effects and a few experimental things Korg was toying with. Basically one no longer needs to switch from one firmware to the next. It’s all there. I bring up this history because the Kaoss Replay looks like it will have a brother (or sister) in the same box and configuration but be called a new Kaossilator Pro. If my prediction is correct, then my guess is that it will be the exact same hardware and chip set but with the sampler turned off and the synth turned on. A move that will invite a whole new generation of the Electribe 2 fiasco.
I never understood what Korg was trying to do with E2. Electribe 2 felt very hands on, but its firmware felt just uncomplete, forcing me to look for unconventional turnaround solutions to simple problems. Its step edit mode was pain to use, beat chopping was taking up all the instruments basically -- I just could not understand what they were thinking... good I got mine used, wasn't worth the price new. I liked it, but sold it because the problems were too annoying.
As a DJ and huge fan of Kaoss pads, I consider this to be the fantasy upgrade I've been dreaming about. Although it's expensive, if it took me a gig or two to pay for it and I could incorporate it into every set for the rest of my life, the fun I'd have alone would be worth it. And maybe I'll wait for it to go down in price a *smidge.* ;D Thank you @loopop for all of your knowledge and efforts that you put into these videos!
hey Heather! I am looking for something to help me with transitions on my Deluge, would this help? What kind of effects could I add to help with transitions?
@@edjefferson9175After watching a few videos on this, I've realised that this box is definitely intended for DJs and live performers rather than producers, so yes perhaps RCA was deliberate. I don't think there's an excuse for Micro-USB though
I’m baffled as to why Korg don’t have their open ‘Logue standard in more of their gear. Imagine this with the ability to load new FX from people like Sinevibes, or weird stuff people make for free. Why do you squander that, Korg?
Korg products don't grow, they never even got MIDI working properly on the KP3 which was on sale over a decade. Assume this will never see a single update
Cross your fingers and pray to the Celestial Father, Korg sucks royally at updates. More than one or two very minor updates would be a miracle. No doubt Wavestate rocks, but that's a ROMpler, and ROMplers are Korg's specialty and what they tend to be best at. But they occasionally screw that up as well when they get too ambitious, like with the Kronos2.
It’s too close to my AKAI Force. Be cooler if it had multi in/outs and focused more on just fx processing. Where you could place it between multiple signals for live fx fckry.
The price kinda starts to make sense when you realize that this is aimed pretty squarely at the high-end DJ market (and not really producers/musicians). It intentionally looks like something you'd squeeze between some Pioneer's CDJ/XDJs.
This seems very beta-prototype-like with so many annoying workflow issues (classic Korg and Roland) and with a price of almost 3 Kaoss Pad 3s then it seems like a no-go. Korg should really proove that they aren't going to let us hang with a lot of bugs and no updates this time!
@christopherboolean5074I might. I have often made my own stuff when the gear you could buy wasn't flexible and intuitive enough. I could easily beat them in some parameters, but in others they would be way ahead! If its for producing my music, then it is much easier to make my own instead of making an industry out of it!
I aint gonna lie, for me, this machine makes you appreciate the sp 404 mk2 A WHOLE LOT MORE. This machine seems really clunky operational wise...they have a ton of catching up to do with sp404mkII
Was just reading some of the more disappointed comments here. I think the problem is that “sampler” is not really a good and descriptive category itself and everyone has their own expectations towards a proper “sampler”. What really defines the workflow is if the device tends more towards being a DAW …or a looper …or a groovebox …or a dj player …or just playing notes with the sampled clip via a keyboard - can also be considered a proper sampler. I like the approach that they took here making it look a bit like a DJ player with some FX (I don’t really need those FX though). BUT ability to sync a dj player of this kind (using auto BPM) to other MIDI synths, drum machines is an absolute untapped niche. Only computers currently offer this functionality. I am glad Korg took this route, I ordered mine. BTW: Korg, you forgot the sync jack that all your synths have, but OK midi sync has to do then.
i guess a lot of people are missing that this is meant to be a companion in the dj booth, it can be used standalone without a mixer, or used in tandem with something like a pioneer cdj which is pretty club standard. i think it's pretty impressive to have this be a 2ch in 34ch out audio interface, and i'm not sure, but by having a usb 2.0 jack, it means that in Surface Mode you can use a usb A cable straight into a cdj to access your sd card and then you can still use your xy pad and faders as midi control surfaces. when you compare this to a cdj-3000 it is an absolute bargain and an interesting workflow as well. loopop is demonstrating very surgical uses for what is something that could possibly make waves in electronic music djs and producers. being able to do full songs per pad over 8 banks with 12 hot cues per pad would be pretty exciting to a dj. i just think the synth market isn't the market for this. we want a new electribe ;)
This product is like a super-expanded KP3 with better ways to handle content, but for the price they should've introduced User Multi FX slots where you could edit which FX are together/what axis they respond to/etc. It's like Korg only trusts us to do this when we're making patches on a synthesizer, but for some reason "Kaoss Pads" can strictly only be preset devices. This one with that great touchscreen interface should've been the one to finally let us crack the tin! Also, maybe I'm the only one saying this but here goes: I wish Korg would build on their legacy video gear to deliver a new A/V sampler/Kaoss Pad like the old Entrancer+Kaptivator! Something like this, but putting the screen to use and handling HDMI audio-video would be a dream.
This was an excellent watch. Man, I feel like Korg made some baffling decisions in regards to some of its firmware limitations. Here's hoping they remedy some of these limitations in further firmware updates. Thanks for an excellent presentation, Loopop.
I would just like to acknowledge, in addition to your superb reviews, your theme song is excellent, I've enjoyed hearing it across the different videos. As far as the device, WOW. I grew up using the SP 202 in the late 90s as a kid. Things have come a long way, I'm kind of mind blown!
Omg I love this workflow. Something very different from my workflow but that's why it's so cool. Also seems pretty intuitive which is why m,any of us like Korg's products.
Was very interested,… until seeing the price,.. the i/o,.. and learning about the lack of features. 🤕 If only we could have an interface like this with features comparable to the octatrack. 😞
Excellent walk through video, as expected! I was amused that for the long list of 'Pros', each Pro was almost too politely countered with qualifiers that rendered the 'advantage' almost moot. The list of Cons was helpfully honest. Even acknowledging its target of Live Performance over (Production) and aside from the obvious (it's too expensive for what it offers) almost every compelling design feature on this new Kaoss seems to be nullified by deal-crushers (major under-use of otherwise good screen technology, too power hungry/no-batteries, Micro-USB in 2023?, alongside USB C??, etc). This device could have had a lot of potential and appeal, but as it is, could use a recall or do-over, esp at this price.
2k Australian. Lol. Kaoss pad mini has exact same effects. Blackbox does more and better for half the price. You can multi sample, it has multiple audio outs not via usb, usb controllers implement so easily and the quantised loops play together so well. Also has sync in and out for modular n volcas, etc. Then you have sequences and can send midi in and out so it's not just a performer but sequncer n brain for a live setup. I would've gotten this if the price was right if I didn't know about the blackbox. Just having the ability to play loops quantised and in time with everything else playing along or being sequnced by the blackbox was what I always wanted in my main hardware brain.
I get why some people feel like this isn't the product they wanted but as someone who's addicted to using multiple samplers and desperately wanted a new kaosspad with better integration and more functions I am incredibly happy with this launch
The primary purpose, it is a DJ Performance Effect Box and not a groove box or performance box for synth or sampler. That's why the inputs and outputs are primarily RCA, where you can easily connect to a good DJ mixer. Sure you can use it in another music setup, but the primary firmware updates are not made for a synth or sampler setup. I wouldn't expect that unless you're lucky.
I personally hope Korg makes a new emx 1, esx 1 version. A great grovebox and sampler with lots of good synths and effects. Just like the old blue and red tube devices. With a good and modern sequencer where stochastics, euclide and trig triggers, lfo, envelop, effect stack, sample, sample layer switch would also be included. With lots of memory and streaming from a memory card. Long Stereo sampling and good simple crop, slice, merge, stretch and normalise functions (like the Koala App). App like Overbrige integration etc. Because my old Korg electribe boxes will soon but surely give up the ghost and memory cards are hard to find.
What makes a SP-404MKII raffle is the prize as well as the versatility once you learn it and the new MK two LCD screen. The only downside is the menu diving but the machine is stellar versus $999
thing that always pissed me off about the 404 was the inability to separate outs or the ability to control pad/loop volumes on the fly. Once you kick a loop off you're stuck with it - you can't tweak the level. If it had 6 outs like the Live that would be awesome. The Live by contrast has no latching. Still waiting for the perfect box!
Had no idea they had this one , I was looking at the older Kory kaoss. I really like the screen . I now have to research the pros and cons compared to the 404mk2
They should of put a pitch fader on it and gave it a turntable mode so you could chop tracks and use the live looping in a DJ set while using the effects on a send return. It kind of looks like the Native Instruments S4 they made for DJ’s to use stems
After watching for a few mins I could tell this is aimed mainly at DJ's, not really fair to compare it to MPC or 404, this is a similar product to the Pioneer toraiz sp 16 or the Pioneer DJS-1000 (but both of those have sequencers), a live sampler playback device,. I like the look of the device but for the price and all the things missing as you mention, I don't think it is worth it. Thanks great video as usual.
Korg, what would make this box complete imo is a granular sampler with full ADSR and lfo capabilities. And the ability to play the granular sampler from the touch screen similar to the I pad play position, etc... Before this thing hits production, dual USB C that mini has got to go. Making this class compliant is also a must, Korg.
The micro USB for data certainly must have been something they thought they needed to prevent people from plugging power into the wrong USB-C port and then calling them why the unit doesn't reliably power on.
Glad to see a new evolution of my beloved Kaoss pad! This will no doubt be many peoples very favorite instrument. I do hope Korg will polish this off with the features Loopop suggested. The quantize and better label and name persistence, we appreciate the clean Korg UI but that basic data like FX types and details and basic data really makes it more comfortable. Those are the ones that stuck out to me. I do wonder if the quantize isnt hidden under a shortcut somewhere.
There is a Quantize button at mid right, perhaps they could add this functionality to it via a firmware update? Which companies should always be encouraged to make!
This seems like perfect for the dawless chopped n screwed setup i was told to use an SP404 for or more commonly to use serato WHEN THE POINT WAS DAWLESS.
THE TRIP STARTS HERE! Well, Ziv.. I have to say.. quite the META callback to the SP404 review, having it as the intro jam to a device that seems very similar to my beloved 404... Which your video helped me understand how to use it. I absolutly love your music, and hope for a new album at some time. OUTRO WAS A SMOOTH BANGER (love the phaser)!!!!
kp3 is a fun "master fx" unit to use with another synth or two for live performance. I can imagine this can be one too, possibly with a few new tricks with the sampling/resampling/playbavk and dj style faders for transitions, backing tracks, or just some fun 1 shots.. Hmm
It took KORG a while (17 years to be precise - as KP3 was introduced in 2006) to evolve it from a groundbreaker into a me too product. Still, it looks promising.
I got excited at first because I got a lot of use out of a KP3 many years ago. But this thing isn't doin much for me. I think it might be a good fit for a rapper that just wants to play their songs, 1 shots and have an easy to reach FX unit. If it had 2 inputs and more live loop functions I'd say it would be good for DJs
I have 3 Kaoss Pad 3s which are the heart of my studio - Just everything I program & produced gets manipulated through them & I've been waiting over 12 years for Korg to update their Kaoss Pads - they did with the KP3+ but they let old KP3 users down by not including a software update for regular KP3s. I'm very exited for the KP Relay yet I'm gonna wait to buy it until either the price drops or Korg has a sequencing update for it, or they come out with a MKII version with 1/4" ins/outs
This looks doooppee! but looks like Korg's version of a BOSS SP-303. lol makes you wonder; Why Korg ain't really going Electribe 3 instead of this. But heey why not lol
As an owner of a KP1 and 3 I always loved having them in a live setup over the years just for a little extra improv fun, I would consider upgrading to this if the effects and overall sound was substantially better. I would consider definitely for a backing track setup. This is probably more for those new to the line itself, which I get- everyone needs a little Kaoss in their life at one time or another. It looks nice, but I think the current design trends are not going to age well. I mean where do you go from modern brutalist minimalism? I'd have to actually play with it to see if it is worth a car payment TBH.
It's very striking to me that aside from the "Vocal Effects" bank, all the Kaoss effects are the exact same ones as on my Mini Kaoss Pad 2S - or at least, they have the same names and are in the exact order. (In fact, up through the end of the Vocoder bank, they've even got the same FX numbers.) I don't mean to call that a bad thing, as i absolutely love the effects in my Mini Kaoss Pad, but it's interesting that they didn't make any changes there. I fear this is another in the long list of musical tools that I'd absolutely love that I'm just never going to be able to afford.
They are over charging us for forward programming techniques...if that's the case they sold us software that was already made lovely hoe respectful of them to do nothing but stuff old shit in a new box...I thought this was korg not roland.....Tr8s don't count lol
And funny enough they already had the kaoss pad quad, which allowed to combine 4 different effects, and they recently released the kp3 vst which allowed to deep dive into the effects. Korg is charging 1000 usd for a 2014 product
"Korg KAOSS Replay will cost 1099€ and will start shipping in January 2024." wtf, why would anyone get this instead of an SP-404 mk II which is 400 and in a much more mature state and has much better connectivity
The only advantages I can see really are the big touch screen and a couple of assignable faders. SP-404 MK2 definitely seems like the better device overall
My first synth was the Korg Prologue 16 and I paid the massive 2k but it was so cool and Sweetwater had that no interest payment plan so I went for it, a year later the price drops to 1600, and now I hear they are discontinued and they aren’t serviceable. This Kaoss replay is another example of how bad Korg is in my eyes. They have a lot to make up for now and this thing is so just wrong. Korg what are you doing? Roland is the best in my opinion. I still love my Prologue but if it breaks there is no help for it, so it will stay in the studio while I use all my affordable used Roland gear to travel and do gigs. Roland in my opinion is the best synth company and I don’t care what people say teenage engineering and Elektron and moog are over priced hipster hype garbage too. If I were to get a full synth I would love to get the polybrute 12 but the hydra synth is also amazing for the price I feel you get wayyyy more with the after touch. The Roland gear I have works so well together but I still want to get the mx-1 and I hope I can get a mint one because they are pretty old at this point. ❤
@@Jason75913 bro I hear you but its 2023.. wavestation (1990) and Kross 2 (2017) time to improve the flow and listen to the users; firmware and user flow improvements.
My first thoughts: wow finally, a proper format, seemingly good controls, and likely a proper sampler?...... After watching this review: what a bummer, is sampling cursed, why are they all so underengineered?
25:45 The KP3 Looper was the unintentionally best feature of the device! It was the main sound canvas for early Beardyman and others. (Many of us later shifted to the 505 ) Do you think that they might be convinced to give us a KP3 Looper Mode on this new machine, via a firmware update? considering the new device must have vastly more processor power, it seems possible. "Live Looping" is a big deal for musicians! and they may migrate to the machines that are the easiest to use for spontaneous jamming.
Honestly curious about who this will appeal to. I'd rather have the 404. The dedicated faders are nice, but it's not too much trouble to hook a small midi controller to the 404.
I really like it’s instantaneous fluid motion well done video a little pricey for rca jacks I could do Intement shows w/ this and mpc my multi moog I’m sure the updates will be nice.kinda swisss army knife in the studio very cool.thanks Bo!
A portable high end multi effect with 6 effect slots that has a headphone output and runs on batteries would sell like crazy right now. This giant effects box style with a deep learning curve and lots of screen diving doesn’t offer much more than most iPad apps.
It does look way too complicated with stuff like bussing and menu-driving/shift functions for its own good. The complexity doesn't gel with its intended purpose and capabilities.
Wtf. This is like everything I ever wanted in a single device. I'm actually almost angry about it. What a weird mix of emotions... Edit: after watching the whole thing, this would be my dream box if it had a simple sequencer or a version of kaossilator synth engine built in. I was just excited.
MPC One and Kaosspad are my favorite devices, so this looks like a based thing, but damn it also cost like both MPC One and Kaosspad at the same time 🙄 i wish they would just re-issue Kaoss Quad literally all the same but with modern-quality converters, and mb 2x higher pad resolution - it have outstanding usability but just that lo-fi-ness is not always desired
I think people's needs/wants/budget vary so much, that I doubt a statement like that would be helpful (though I totally understand why you want to hear it). Regadless, my personal situation has been skewed so far off what's reasonably normal due to the amount of gear I come across, that I believe whether I would or wouldn't spend money on something wouldn't be relevant to anyone else regardless. In light of that, my goal in my videos is exactly the opposite, to try and give you an objective idea of what something can do, and then pros and cons compared to similar instruments, so that you can evaluate for yourself if it suits your needs.

A move that will invite a whole new generation of the Electribe 2 fiasco.
riiight. untouchable.
Let the hackers do their thing
As a DJ and huge fan of Kaoss pads, I consider this to be the fantasy upgrade I've been dreaming about. Although it's expensive, if it took me a gig or two to pay for it and I could incorporate it into every set for the rest of my life, the fun I'd have alone would be worth it. And maybe I'll wait for it to go down in price a *smidge.* ;D
Thank you @loopop for all of your knowledge and efforts that you put into these videos!
hey Heather! I am looking for something to help me with transitions on my Deluge, would this help? What kind of effects could I add to help with transitions?
Audio out over mini usb.. or RCA. Great. Great job, Korg. That time stretch algorithm sounds like when I used Cakewalk as my main DAW in 1998.
MiniUSB is actually robust and quite nice and durable.. I have MiniUSB ports/cables 15 years old that still work fine. Sadly this is MicroUSB..
RCA is standard on DJ mixers. Simple reliable connection easily adaptable. Need to send to front of house console? That’s what DI boxes are for.
@@edjefferson9175After watching a few videos on this, I've realised that this box is definitely intended for DJs and live performers rather than producers, so yes perhaps RCA was deliberate. I don't think there's an excuse for Micro-USB though
Micro usb is horrible , not durable at all in my experience
Universally agreed micro USB is garbage
NEW KAOS!!! Ive been itching for Korg to bring back some form of this for years... And i told myself i wouldn't GAS out again until 2024
Fond memories of my Kaoss Pad, many which involve me wishing it did a little bit more.
If anyone from Korg reads this, please listen and learn from this man. He is a treasure
Can’t wait for Korg to give it one update and drop it immediately.
Another Korg device going on clearance in about a year.
Looks very cool. Price is completely insane.
This thing is 1100 euros! Roland 404mk2 is 450 and akai live which is a whole daw in a box is 800. I don’t get it
“ItS goT RCA tHouGH” 😂
Kaoss Replay vs. DJS-1000, take your pick
The Akai Live is $1300.
The Akai Pro is $700
The teenage big calculator it's 350....
@@GirlfightClubThat's overkill, they don't need to flex like that....
I’m baffled as to why Korg don’t have their open ‘Logue standard in more of their gear. Imagine this with the ability to load new FX from people like Sinevibes, or weird stuff people make for free. Why do you squander that, Korg?
The tech support required for all the novices bricking their products, would be immense and damaging.
@@straighttalk2069 considering they already can on the Minilogue XD, Prologue, NTS1, etc.. I can't see that being an issue.
This has some major growth potential. It has a lot of really interesting raw fundamentals geared around exploratory performance which I really like.
Korg products don't grow, they never even got MIDI working properly on the KP3 which was on sale over a decade.
Assume this will never see a single update
Thats what i said when i bought the Electribe sampler and they never supported it.
@@RemyGold that’s not been my experience with the Wavestate.
@@Patriotic_Eagle1995 this is a new era though.. look at the Wavestate and what they gave us with that system.
This !! If someone could make the love child of my octatrack and force and make it more focused with the multiple signals i'd be very happy indeed.
@@OnceSolem I hear you. My OT is so good for doing things quickly and the Force is so good at building deeper projects with more FX and channels.
The price kinda starts to make sense when you realize that this is aimed pretty squarely at the high-end DJ market (and not really producers/musicians). It intentionally looks like something you'd squeeze between some Pioneer's CDJ/XDJs.
For sure. It’s a much cheaper version of the DJS1000.
This seems very beta-prototype-like with so many annoying workflow issues (classic Korg and Roland) and with a price of almost 3 Kaoss Pad 3s then it seems like a no-go. Korg should really proove that they aren't going to let us hang with a lot of bugs and no updates this time!
They left the latest Electribes with lots of bugs so for me it's a big no.
You know that screen interface is going to go wonky in just a few years. The R&D was WEAK with this one.
You can buy two or three MPC Ones for the price with a touch FX pad
Somehow the pricing of all new Korg gear (at least in Europe) seems a bit out of touch. Worse than Roland, and that is not so easy to achieve 😊
I can’t wait to see Korg release this then never update it!!! Can’t wait!!!!
Korg decided to use synth/groovebox influencers instead of DJs and will be taking flak for their moronic screw-up.
Wow. I may need to start touring again. 🤯
Would love your take on this
Love this groove of yours, glad to see it back and alive on other gear
At this price, seems like one of the competitors would be the Pioneer DJS-1000 and it's more studio focused Toraiz sibling
Would love to see a groovebox from Korg in similar form factor with a nice sequencer
After the drumlogue I think they would hesitate
You mean like an Electribe?

I would just like to acknowledge, in addition to your superb reviews, your theme song is excellent, I've enjoyed hearing it across the different videos. As far as the device, WOW. I grew up using the SP 202 in the late 90s as a kid. Things have come a long way, I'm kind of mind blown!
Much appreciated!
Omg I love this workflow. Something very different from my workflow but that's why it's so cool. Also seems pretty intuitive which is why m,any of us like Korg's products.
DJS-1000 is probably the better choice over this.
RMX-1000 if you don't need built-in sampling.
Was very interested,… until seeing the price,.. the i/o,.. and learning about the lack of features. 🤕
If only we could have an interface like this with features comparable to the octatrack.
Wake up Akai!
Streaming data is a must!!
Look at what Korg is doing!
Omg, I would never go to sleep again messing with this dam thing😂😂😂😂…..brilliant 🙏🏾
Feels like the product of ten different people in ten different rooms writing what they want on a list then someone else smashing it all together
Imagine if Korg actually listened to what their customers wanted instead of serving up regurgitated effect algorithms from their iPhone apps?
You just described Death Row during their Chronic, Doggystyle and All Eyez On Me peak💯
Sounds lit! Yes please
Homer's car
Exactly!
I get why some people feel like this isn't the product they wanted but as someone who's addicted to using multiple samplers and desperately wanted a new kaosspad with better integration and more functions I am incredibly happy with this launch
Why, when you can have two MPCs that do almost all of this better and more easily?
Nothing like an evening loopop video. And with the hallmark intro jam!
Had no idea they had this one , I was looking at the older Kory kaoss. I really like the screen . I now have to research the pros and cons compared to the 404mk2
Enjoyed the performance at the end. Chill song!
Ahhhh I'll stick to my kp2, kp3, kp3+... Where's electribe 3 korg!?!?
They should of put a pitch fader on it and gave it a turntable mode so you could chop tracks and use the live looping in a DJ set while using the effects on a send return. It kind of looks like the Native Instruments S4 they made for DJ’s to use stems
That's the First thing I thought when i saw it... But I think you mean the D2... Which is the single deck version of the S8/S5
i think u can use it as a send fx with cdj / djm
Yay finally some loopop in the morning! Boker Tov
Nice machine and great review as always but the price is just insanely absurd
I love it. THX LOOPOP. Best rewievs on YT.
This seems like perfect for the dawless chopped n screwed setup i was told to use an SP404 for or more commonly to use serato WHEN THE POINT WAS DAWLESS.
it looks like something from Native instruments Traktor. I heard Akai was making something similar called the MPC Live mini.
Thanks very much!
"scratching effect" of the sample by hand over the touch screen would be cool
kp3 is a fun "master fx" unit to use with another synth or two for live performance.
• "software update for [gear]"
• Korg

This exactly!
This looks doooppee! but looks like Korg's version of a BOSS SP-303. lol makes you wonder; Why Korg ain't really going Electribe 3 instead of this. But heey why not lol
I’ll wait for some updates that you pointed out.
I've had 2 kaossolators and a kp3. I completely understand this comment.
Just start with “I own X and always loved having them…”. As it stands, your sentence structure is as Kaotic as the product.

Exactly this ..
Yes! Good effects but we should have more NEW ones!
And funny enough they already had the kaoss pad quad, which allowed to combine 4 different effects, and they recently released the kp3 vst which allowed to deep dive into the effects. Korg is charging 1000 usd for a 2014 product
I will buy it at first glance once it fits my workflow
Glad i kept my Toraiz sp16
"Korg KAOSS Replay will cost 1099€ and will start shipping in January 2024." wtf, why would anyone get this instead of an SP-404 mk II which is 400 and in a much more mature state and has much better connectivity
The only advantages I can see really are the big touch screen and a couple of assignable faders. SP-404 MK2 definitely seems like the better device overall
Come-on Korg, micro-USB in 2023 ! Seriously ?
Ya, just wtf
I need it. That outro song so good!

This already has live looping, the problem is it doesn't keep sync if you stop a loop and restart it, which I cannot imagine is a hard thing to add
Can't wait to see Florian get his hands on this baby and tick some boxes.

Honestly curious about who this will appeal to. I'd rather have the 404. The dedicated faders are nice, but it's not too much trouble to hook a small midi controller to the 404.

Would love if you started instead with "I would|wouldn't myself spend on this device, and here's why"
Thanks for the thoughtful response! Understood@@loopop
