@@peterkadarmusic9728 I would jump on the MPC train if they made a battery powered one this size, full featured. Would be the best portable production system ever.
Yeah it's going into production just as soon as the elementary school in their factory city breaks for the winter holidays. Extra money for those industrious tots! The MSRP is US$89.99.
The minute I saw the Kaoss Replay I was wondering who the hell it was for. The RCA ins and outs, the limited functionality. The lack of sequencer. The price! This was a complete miscalculation on the part of Korg. Get a Digitakt, MPC, SP404, or octatrack. Yeah for $1000 you are getting into used octatrack territory. All of this stuff does much cooler stuff than the Kaoss Replay.
Basically, it's designed for DJs as an effects funnels/auxiliary for completed tracks and loops, or for the same kind of people who use the SP404 to play their livesets AND SOLELY THAT. Putting it up against grooveboxes isn't a proper comparison although I 100% understand why it happens considering Korg's mistakes handling the product. Korg decided to add features that theoretically would be useful that crosses over with the grooveboxes; then instead of going in further as a groovebox or sampler, decided to take a step back and maintain it's a Kaoss line DJ product, despite obviously having a form factor and marketing strat that directly puts them against MPCs and the SP404. If you're using it solely for the intended use case, it's probably fine. But for most people and general use case, it doesn't make any sense, at least not without other gear to supplement it, and the ludicrous price in comparison to more versatile and production-use gear, puts it solely in the demographic bracket of people who buy OP-1s just because they can, and to no one else. It's a playback machine, that's probably fine and fun for that use-case but only that use-case alone, it's basically an unusable production tool. Wait for the next Electribe that probably would be a more apt competitor in this space.
I would say Korg Kaoss Replay is mainly a DJ tool , obviously Korg don't want to hear anything from beatmakers asking for features , its not for them. the nice screen and visualization ( in the vein of other DJ software) is a big advantage over the SP-404mk2 come on any MacBook air with Ableton live light or Bigwig is lightyears better then any hardware solution which is really just a computer in disguise .. I don't want to know anything about Korg, they do things that are very inappropriate for having good products. They removed Kronos to impose the Nautilus, which was not selling well. Machines like wavestate, opsix and modwave did not sell well either and they decided to put them in a more premium format with an aluminum casing and with better presentation for more than 2000 dollars. Now this thing for more than 1000 euros... any day we will wake up to the news that the Volcasample deluxe will cost 1600 dollars because it is a deluxe version. It really is ridiculous to see this commercial proposal seeing how the market is. I said a long time ago not to buy more Korg things and I will continue with that for a long time.
Wow, I literally only heard of the korg unit from a video before this one. I've been considering getting a 404 and trying it out as a first dive into samplingvand beat making and when I just saw the korg I thought it looked like a good alternative but then I saw the price. More than double what I can get a 404 for? I don't think so. If it was maybe £600 then possibly but at that price there are far better options for not much more and they are beyond my level or needs currently.
I really want a404 mk2 but don’t need one. Can you please convince me of all the reasons why I should get one and tell me all the things I’m unaware of that I’ll stumble upon once I try one out. I currently use Logic. I own a maschine mk3, tr8 & 2 boutiques. Tell me why I’m better off getting a nice new 404mk2 and not the maschine plus.
@@Jason75913 i really enjoy my mk3 but I just want to not have to include the laptop. I’ve been planning to upgrade to the maschine plus but coz they’re so expensive I don’t know if instead going for a 404mk2 or MPCOne would be better. The main negative is I’m used to maschine workflow, but being away from the laptop is the main goal. Especially with the Roland gear.
I don't know how clever is compare sp to this korg stuff Sp is drum machine/sampler That korg bing bang buuu is more to play your final product and performing so don't know But it's two totally different machines
I can’t do this for $1,000. No thanks. Not even $500. As for the SP 404 MKii… I admired the MKii and really loved a lot of things about it, but in the end it sadly didn’t agree with me. This may sound stupid, but the fact that there isn’t transport record/play/stop buttons on it just didn’t compute with my brain. That and I kept forgetting all the short cut shift function’s. I was in love with it though, and still think it’s the best 16 pad sampler on the market. Especially for the price. As for MPC, I really dislike touch screens. For my style of music the Digitakt & Tasty Chips GR-1 are my samplers of choice. As for drum machines, the TR-8s is my favorite. Still considering Machine. That’s my 2 cents
Good looking Jade!! Just tired of these companies not coming with it. Now if they would of through a decent mic preamp on there with an eight track recorder of audio this would have covered lots of ground like op1s Lofi 12 and challenged Roland to step up the sp even more. But these companies are giving less and trying to charge more
We all got excited. But we also know Korg. 5 steps forward. 10 steps back. With all their samplers. All we want is a new sampler with more banks , The ease of the electribe esx sequencing. And sample management and fx . And every time. They screw it up. Since the electribe esx. Each new sampler they introduce gets worse instead of better.
Yeah the price is really unappealing; I got both a used sp404 mk2 and Digitakt for $1025 total. And even the budget ep133 has usbc, micro usb on any $1000 device kinda blows my mind.
i will never get that new kaoss replay. ..come on koeg.although somethings will most likely be fixed with updates but at that price point i just had to laugh.
Price!! At first I thought the price was too high but considering there is nothing it there that do what this does. Of course I haven't tried it myself so I'm only going off of the videos. The lag is a turn off for sure. I use mpclive to make beats. Mute and unmute loops i crewted. kp3 for effects in a live set. This kinda does both in one unit. Import the loops in the machine and use one unit. Idk 🤷🏾♂️ i will have to test it out myself
Some awesome ideas in there, but it's a naw for me too. The Kaoss Replay is something original so shout out to Korg for that but the price point and workflow are just not for me.
If we listen to all TH-camrs we will never make music with what we have and we will not buy any gear coz you do it for fun coz you rich but ask any poor guy what they use to make music you will be surprised so keep on reviewing we keep on buying what we can afford or want to use
That's why price matters. For a grand it's awful. For a 500.. well nice! For a a 400 it's awesome... But hey what if Korg will come up with turntables to it next? That would be cool!
I was def annoyed when I saw the Kaoss Replay. I feel like no one asked for this. Just give us an updated version of the normal Kaoss pad that won't break as easy so i can use it with the rest of the gear I have. Also the prices is completely laughable.
I think it’s screen and enclosure is what your paying the most for. If you put it next to a Drumlogue, kp3 Kaoss pad, and this new korg kaoss thing you’ll start to see all they did is used the main PCB from the old unit upgraded w/ newer chip set and added pads and bigger touch capacitive touch screen make a new enclosure, silk screened the unit w/ control and function texts, popped in some new pads, and screen with a couple of ribbon cables and boom you got this thing. You’ll be hard pressed to find out that the most expensive part of a synth or any electronic music device is the sheet metal folding and CNC machining, paint and powder coating process. Now go stare at any plastic drum machine and or midi controller which has none of these attributes and think about what I just said. Although this thing seem to have a few set backs, it looks dope to me. I would like to grab one and a Drumlogue also to see what I can make with them.🙃
Yeah, at $1000 dollars, no, hell no. I am sure it will get seriously discounted soonish. That high price actually might reflect that there is a planned discount in the product's near future.
@@Jason75913 So this has been directly compared to the MPC Live 2. The MPC Key 61 is an upgraded MPC Live, think MPC Live 1.5, integrated with a 61 key velocity sensitive keyboard, VSTs and dedicated controls for the Touch FX plugin. It's far more capable than the Replay but at a cost of a larger footprint which is a fair trade knowing what it's capable of.
Kaoss Replay will probably sell less units than the ones given for free. Absurd pricing. Maybe the release of K.R. does not aim at sales but it is some kind of social experiment. I cannot find any other argument for such a ridiculous pricing. Though the way K.R. is made, I would not buy it not even for $500. As for the sp 404 mk2, obviously it lacks a looper. But it also lacks even more basic functions that are obligatory and related to looping. 404 mk2 cannot sample without stopping the sequencer (and any sound too) for the seconds needed to save the sample. Sampling is required for looping. In other words, looping cannot be possible when the device stops while sampling. Chances are that this cannot be fixed, due to a weak CPU. I was one of the first to point out this problem and I was told that it's only me. 2 years later, many more requested the features, but, still nothing. The funny thing is, Kaoss Pad 3, a sampler that came out 20+ years ago, does both looping and uninterrupted sampling. So I do believe Roland screwed up big time, and maybe it's time to sell it and move on to a more decent sampler.
usb thing sucks, but the price is no shock.. I love my kaoss pad, but this thing is so much more. so no surprises that it cost a lot more. Kaoss had no hd screen and a whole lot les function. I am not going to judge it till we see what it can do. Updates, sales, etc. For all we know the price could drop 200$ Stranger things have happened. And think of all the things that sucked till the got several updates happened. Im still holding out.
I’m done with Korg. Bought the Drumlogue which was absolute trash with completely screwed up midi implementation. Sold it within a week. Just sold my Minilogue XD because the output is too weak and noisy. They’ve really been dropping the ball. I don’t know what they’re thinking.
I have no interest. I saw a review of this yesterday and I see nothing that it can do that sp 404 or MCP One is not already capable of. Even if it ran on batteries, I'll take the sp404 over this. The screen is dope, but nah. May consider it in 2 years after the price drops to $300 on reverb or something.
So are Korg even aware of the MPC One at this point? I felt the same, was hyped, saw price, un-hyped.

what do you think are the similaritys, pro and cons between Korg Kaoss Replay and Roland SP-808EX if you would like to compare
Very cool of you to do this video and not just hopping on the hype train! Still a cool unit but damn, those details!
need the knobage
NEEEDDSSS
I was all excited when i first saw too but looks like touchscreen is only new feature I'd care about and didn't even think about the knobs til you mentioned. Price is insanity for sure too, hadn't looked it up but damn
My whole name has to do with kaoss pads but yea definitely gonna stick with my ol reliable kp3
$1000CAD is a second hand MPC LIVE, never mind the LIVE 2. I think the first generation is still a killer, I can produce my own music with it and perform, have a synth. Yeah, let's see it might has it's reasons, are you going to get one :) they should send you one!
I need that course too.
Seems like this R&D Korg team got stuck 5 years back and just emerged from a cavern.
The sp don't have 128 effects, sounds like judging the cover of a book by some other books pages.
PO33 for life.
*I, too, need some knobbage.*
Machine+ is underpowered. SP-404 would be a whole new workflow for you, though you could just use it as performance FX after your other gear.
& buying old jazz and soul records from the charity shops and chopping them up in 404 looks too fun.
micro USB doesnt come out of the port as easily... so theres that. thats a positive, eh?
I’ll wait until it sales second hand for 300
I don't know how clever is compare sp to this korg stuff
Sp is drum machine/sampler
That korg bing bang buuu is more to play your final product and performing so don't know
But it's two totally different machines
Lucky fan ? That's mean?😃
Yeah, that price is just out of order. 😀
Watch…Roland gonna come out with a new 404 tomorrow!😂
And no Jade, I disagree. Not all of us want or need something smaller or battery powered, sorry😞
Yeah the price is really unappealing; I got both a used sp404 mk2 and Digitakt for $1025 total. And even the budget ep133 has usbc, micro usb on any $1000 device kinda blows my mind.
The price is ridiclious....it doen't even have a sequencer!
KORG KAOSS REPLAY
Not a SP-404SX rival
It's a RC-505mkII rival😅
i will never get that new kaoss replay. ..come on koeg.although somethings will most likely be fixed with updates but at that price point i just had to laugh.
Kaoss Replay is a waste of Space at $1k. For that I'd rather buy a Maschine (on sale now) an MPCone or 2x SP404.
It’s a old machine i bet
if this was $400 or $500 it would be not to bad .... but for $1400 DOA
Some awesome ideas in there, but it's a naw for me too. The Kaoss Replay is something original so shout out to Korg for that but the price point and workflow are just not for me.
I checked it has the same price as the Akai force 🙈
If we listen to all TH-camrs we will never make music with what we have and we will not buy any gear coz you do it for fun coz you rich but ask any poor guy what they use to make music you will be surprised so keep on reviewing we keep on buying what we can afford or want to use
That's why price matters. For a grand it's awful. For a 500.. well nice! For a a 400 it's awesome...
But hey what if Korg will come up with turntables to it next? That would be cool!
DJ decks to go with the Kaoss Replay, you mean?
Those do exist, you know?
@@Jason75913 Made by Korg? Did i miss something?
I was def annoyed when I saw the Kaoss Replay. I feel like no one asked for this. Just give us an updated version of the normal Kaoss pad that won't break as easy so i can use it with the rest of the gear I have. Also the prices is completely laughable.
Korg, doubling the price and the midi latency every generation 🤭
$1k for this brick? Nope. Not when a MPC Key 61 is $1,400.
Absolutely different audiences/markets. Almost no overlap; therefore, no conflict.
It's not a social experiment, unh0ly sh1t! 🤣🤣
Go look up the Pioneer DJS-1000
Watched a few Kaoss Replay videos, I can’t understand. A grand and NO sequencer?
You didn't read the Korg page?
The price is crazy. For me it’s a big no
$1000 usd or for me in Australia $1500 the price is ridiculous. No sequencer and no portability and no knobs I’m out!!!
I'll buy it in 6 years when it costs $300
ambitious
usb thing sucks, but the price is no shock..
- Korg
- updates
Choose only one.
Trash , Korg must have been taken hostage by aliens 👽
I’m done with Korg. Bought the Drumlogue which was absolute trash with completely screwed up midi implementation. Sold it within a week. Just sold my Minilogue XD because the output is too weak and noisy. They’ve really been dropping the ball. I don’t know what they’re thinking.
Maybe your Minilogue was defective?
😂
I have no interest. I saw a review of this yesterday and I see nothing that it can do that sp 404 or MCP One is not already capable of. Even if it ran on batteries, I'll take the sp404 over this. The screen is dope, but nah. May consider it in 2 years after the price drops to $300 on reverb or something.
Just wait it out! Wait for a second revision! Cheaper & 2 usb-c!
so sick of micro usb on hardware in 2023. $60 toys have better design. love the sweater!
That price point is terrible. I was expecting 500-700 at most, a grand for this is not going to last long when no one buys it.
Look up the Pioneer DJS-1000
