I was sooo hyped for this anime and it completely dropped the ball

Okay, so I wasn't the only one completely confused watching this.
It feels like they fumbled the bag on purpose
It seemed pretty apparent to me that the show was always going to be setting up for another season. I'm not sure how everyone thought it was all going to be wrapped up at then end? My guess is the final episode being turned into a special that came much later made people expect an epic movie quality ending but that just was never planned.
What they did to this show and it's characters was absolutely tragic. As you say I wish they had set up the big bad earlier on, giving them more time to explain just.... whatever the fuck they/the wonder egg world was. Some kind of.... AI that has somehow merged with reality?... Seriously even after finishing the show and the special I still have no damn idea what they were even going for...
But it has such an interesting premise, great characters, incredible art direction... What a disappointing fumble.
So many things rushed and left unanswered
Wonder Egg Priority was definitely the anime of all time.
That said its shame how the plot fell apart. The animation and artstyle was definitely top tier at least.
Everything but a story :(
Cloverworks on anime originals is great at starting them, presenting an interesting premise, build up great characters, having superb animation, soundtrack, and atmosphere.
But they come up undercooked, because it feels they don't plan out all the plot and just wing it in production. A 12 episode show doesn't need info dumps, actually you don't need to explain how a world fully works to make it fascinating. You just need to present the bare minimum in the premise, and it should make sense for the viewer.
A good writer sprinkles worldbuilding though the whole series. These shows were so close to being great, if the writing wasn't so bad after the first half.
I love good endings that conclude what all the series built up until then. If I hear that a show has a bad ending, like Wonder Egg Priority, I wouldn't even watch.
