I had a new wheelchair in may it was a quickie argon2 so I had to learn how to do wheelies and stuff in it as I had never been in a sports chair (I have now I'm in it every day) and by watching this video a couple of times I have been able to teach my self how to do it I can now hold wheelies in one hand and also go up and down 2 steps
Hey there thanks for sharing this interesting video. I have cerebral palsy and use to have anti tip bars applied to my chair. I always wanted to lern the wheelie but I was told it's too dangerous because of my condition. They say i am not compatible to people who are paralysed. Anyway I broke my anti tip bar by accident 3 days ago. At first it was a huge shock for me but I have to say I feel some how relieved about it. At first even sitting felt so strange then I realised nothing has change. Now I keep practicing everyday. I am not afraid of falling. It's actual fun. I have problems to stay in balance. But I will give it time since this is my first time really trying. I have good friends who are willing to support me. I want to do this and I will! (I am sorry if there are some mistakes since I am not a native speaker.) Nice greetings from Germany by the way. I love your content and subscribe to your channel! :)

I couldn't help but noticing... Are you wearing a back brace? If so, do you find it affects your wheelchair technique? I wear a back brace at times for back pain, and while it does make me sit better, I have a hard time getting used to it restricting me while I'm propelling my wheelchair or doing wheelies, and also sometimes it pushes painfully on my ribs if I haven't gotten it on just right :/ Have any advice on how to get used to wearing a brace while in a wheelchair, and maybe a kind of brace that gives good support but without restricting too much so it works well while in a wheelchair? It kinda feels like my brace may be more fit for people who are standing and walking... And at times I do feel it doesn't even give enough support so thought I may ask a "pro" :) I've only been wheeling around for 2.5 years lol
Thanks :D I'll definitely have to talk with my orthotist about getting a different brace I think. Mine is made of fabric with some metal bars in it and while the height in the back is pretty okay, it's a bit too high in the front to promote good movement along with being too soft there too, but less height there would also mean less support, so I'm guessing a more rigid brace in general could work better Hmmm I do often find myself doing better with rigid bracing rather than elastic or soft kinds as the rigid gives support through material rather than how tight it is. I have a fair bit of braces for various joints that I wear as needed- I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, but back and neck are my main problem areas, especially lower back when it comes to pain, and I fatigue easily so when needing to sit all day, I tend to slouch *hangs head in shame*
what is the brand of her wheelchair? My son is an athlet aswell and his every day wheelcahir is heavy and to large,we are going to buy a new one but we need one like she has. Thanks!
i am never taking off my anti tip bars. i have cerebral palsy so i have very poor balance. plus they are high up enough for me to lift up my castors to go up kerbs and go over rough ground so why would i
+Scottish Wheels Anti tip bars to be or not to be is totally a personal choice and preference along with need :) So don't feel ashamed of them if you need them, I know many who have been using a wheelchair all their life and still have them, nothing weird about it. Some conditions just requires it for one reason or another and/or the person may not have gotten enough wheelchair technique practice. I only kept my anti tip bars on for about 5 months when I got my first wheelchair 2.5 years ago, but have no balance issues while seated, nor do I have spasticity so it was safe to remove them (my occupational therapist who set me up with the chair wouldn't agree LOL) once I had learned to keep my balance without them on :)
I have CP and also spasticity in my legs but I can control my legs movements as I'm getting used to new situations. I don´t have any balance issues at least I hope so. :) Do you think I can still do it? I have only started practicing for one day.
How do you pop a wheelie and hold it or pop a wheelie and ride a wheelie as a quadriplegic with no intrinsic finger/hand function? I am 57 and 40 years post trauma and have never been able to hold a wheelie or ride a wheelie. I get around very well - I have triceps 50% - and can pop a wheelie to get up a 4 or 5 inch curb. I just caught these TH-cam videos. I will get a spotter and gait belt on the back of my chair and see what I can do. Any other assistance would be much appreciated.
Well here is the thing. I can only see on my left eye, on which the dioptre value is just up to 50% that´s why I can´t figure the actual highness of a sidewalk. Plus my eye hand coordination is retarded as a consequence. I have no other choice but to use the anti-tip bar! I hate it. I need to hop a sidewalk backwards then.... However from time to time it still happens to me that the chair turns all over. :/ I hate it!!! Can somebody plz give me some advice. Thank u :).
+yurilovegirls What kind of anti tip bars do you have? Some can easily be folded up to be out of the way when needed. Other than that, practice makes perfect. The more you practice in a safe environment, the easier things will get when you're out an about :) One thing I did while having anti tip bars in the beginning was to gain some speed and just go down a curb straight out and landing on all four wheels, that way I got the anti tip bars past the curb before landing. I still do it that way at times, but mostly go down curbs in a wheelie these days and am working on staying in wheelie after landing to one day try multiple steps :)
Hi! Fantastic video, which makes me seing more positiv to my life from now on. But l've a big BUT: on the instruction manuals is written: you're not allowed to customise anyting at the wheel chair, 'cause you'll lose every garanty of it in case of accidents and/or injuries. I'd like to screw a little peage on it behind so l could have my trailer with me to carry my grocery etc. But the man from my medical supply store don't allow! I want some very little things to help me which holds my umbrella or a light when dark: they cathegoryal say no! They say it's unimportant what it is: if not bought by them it's not wanted and l lose all! So l cant do! Is this different in US? I got mine from health injury and l'm not paraplegic. I have got 16 chronical deseases, e.g.my kboth knees are without a working joints. One was operated twice which has made it all worse than bevore +now l nearly can't go or walk. Max.10 m with help of crutches or a person holding me l am able to step a few meters! My shoulders are badly damaged, frozen shoulders at the maximum since 2011. My hand power is limited cause they hurt by every little move and they vibrate as if l had parkinson but l haven't, it's a fact coming from taking medicins so long docs gave me limitate my hurts but it was too much and l did what they told me. I'm 55 and wannaelive a bit with fun! But seems not to be allowed! You didn't tell us that is very im'ortant what kind of chair one uses! An active chair or a sports chair has another static, the deepest, haviest point is on another point of chair and so some times it's not possible to do wheelies and it depends om n the injury one has got! For months l thought l weren't busy enough to learn! Now l now l've too less handpower and too much hurt! To have it doesn't mean to be able to do it all! Nbut l try and l work hard to become better after some time! That8s no critic to your video! It only shows that there might be a lot of difficulties! And: l'm 55 and my friends are older than me! So they can't help me the way yours can help you cause they're aged. What you want to say is: don't give up! Try and you will get better! That's ok and l take my time. Since yesterday l can lift my custers for a moment ! Yeah! My wheel is custamized by an allowed firm. They made it electrified with an e - motion M 25. That makes it a lot havier but it begins to work! Be blessed and thank you for your video!

Not all wheelchair users can do this. I have legs that are straight because my legs don't bend.
