  • The first addition to my 2022 Toyota Fortuner GX. An accessory that I believe is a must have for any wagon build, whether it's a weekender or built for a tourer to lap Australia. I install the KAON Standalone Rear Roof Shelf & Light Cargo & Pet Barrier and tell you why I these two products are a perfect addition to my build.

Love our Kaon Cargo Barrier and Kaon Rear Shelf. Install Tips for the Kaon Rear Shelf #1: to take the Grab Handle Covers off, it has "hooks" on both sides..... I ended up putting a sharp precision screwdriver in through the bottom corner and pried them off, once they pop off the "hooks", they can just be pulled straight back and off..... it was sooooooo much easier doing it this way!!!! (I was scared I was going to stab myself in the eye, trying it the way the video above suggests LOL, there was NO CHANCE mine were coming off that way). Another way to try it, is to use a "hook tool" to take them off (which will probably work even better, I never thought of it at the time). Tip #2: I'd suggest installing the shelf as far towards the boot door as possible, as it's not easy to reach stuff at the back of the shelf if you aren't taller than 6ft. Tip #3: you may need to slightly trim the roof lining around the holes to get the black lock clips in easier. Cheers, Don MY22 Fortuner (Dons Shed and Xplor Overland) p.s. I wish Kaon gave me this gear, I had to pay full price!!! LOL

They are a great addition! Definitely better ways to remove the caps of the handles then what I did that’s for sure! Luckily for me I didn’t have to trim any of the lining for them to fit, but the instructions state that this may be the case. I’ve got it set on the closest to the rear and lowest point anyway to make the most of the space up the top even though I have no problem reaching anywhere in the back.

Products look awesome, the fact you can set up the pet barrier as easily removable is amazing as if you need to transport longer cargo it's an easy swap which is a definite deal maker

The TH-cam video is the go. Nautica Engineering in WA make covers to fill in holes pulling seats out for 80 bucks.
Stedi led internal globes the next best thing and led reverse lamps. About 70 bucks.

Will eventually be running a custom drawer system, so just waiting to work out the plans of mounting that before covering up the gaps!

Bedrock floor mats in the front are better than the original ones too mate.
