If you get a darker polish than the shade you will get a nice patina if you are not sure lighter or neutral polish. The Hanger Project channel goes in-depth on this subject.
Use saphir medaille d'or 1925 which have a pigmenting affect, meaning the color will penetrate the leather. So after a few shines, you should be good. I´ve done a similar mistake as you once :)
Hey we all gotta learn. I could see myself doing the same thing as I am new to the quality shoe world. Do you use Saphir products? I recently ordered the cognac double monks but had the wrong size and its been a bit of a hassle getting my new pair but patiently waiting. Thanks for the video!
A patina specialist would make them better than new check out shoeshine U.K. And dandy shoe care just to give you an idea what can be done . You'll never want a plain factory finish again these guys are artists
ok something similar happened. A friend dropped penut butter into my meermin chelsea boots which happen to be the exact same color. Now penut butter is very oily and the leather just swallowed that inmediately leaving a really dark brown stain in the shoe which wasnt coming out... long story short I managed to save my pair by going ruf on it with warm water, dish detergant and and a brush... that took the oil out of the shoe, just everything. Meermin uses saphire to polish so the saphire shoe cream is the same tone. I used 2 coats of it after the shoe was completely dry (next day) and the end result was surprisingly good...i mean Im the only one that can tell there was a mark there.. I dont know, just sharing my experience.
If you don't like them, clean them thoroughly with Acetone and apply new color of choice using Saphir cream as some of the comments are suggesting. No need to take them to a cobbler.
I had exactly the same situation. New shoes, in general, = neutral shoe cream and neutral wax only. If there is no need for pigmentation, don't go there!
@@qb101 Thanks. Looks like they are wearing very nicely for you. Do you know your size in US and also which size you ordered for Meermin? I am a true 9D US so it seems like 8E is the UK size. I want to purchase a pair, since shipping and returns are not free I'd like to get it right the first time around if possible. Any info is greatly appreciated!
Not really. They are more loose than my laced pairs, but they don't really slip. The did a little more when I got them, but they broke in nicely. Before you go running around in them, I would email the Meermin team and check with them to make sure you got the right match for your foot in that last. They are very helpful if you know your measurement in centimeters.
+Tyler Kent thanks! I may have a half size bigger or the last isn't just for me, the front half of the shoe is good but the back half is a bit loose thus the heel sleep. remedied it with a tongue pad tho haha great pairs btw! maybe you can renomat your monks then just recolor :) good luck!
I'm not a fan of darker brown shoes. I think it was Paul Simon that said, "A brown shoe don't walk." Basically, dark brown shoes are kind of boring. Plus, matching the belt at that point becomes even more difficult.
Get some Saphir man. its not really expensive, and its good stuff. Renomat to gently strip, saddle soap to clean off the stripper, dry them with a towel, apply Renovateur to nourish the shoe, then pigmented shoe cream, then neutral or colored wax. Its good stuff, twice the pigment.

Dude that's an awesome patina !!! Custom finish!!!
Try Saphir Renomat to get it solved.

They look like hand painted shoes now with a bit of Patina. I like shoes with a little bit of character instead of uniform color all over

How long have you owned and how often do you wear them? Looks like it's creasing very well. You got a perfect fit.
I wore then for work daily for three years. Im now at a new job that I don't wear them for, do they sit in my closet until I wear nicer clothing.

what if you dye them in a darker color....and then eventually get another nice tan pair. I know its costly but they look good, and if you use them....

Tyler Kent Congrats!
Update!
I'll try and remember to update this over the weekend. I am now actually wearing the shoes to work, so it turned out okay. Not great, but okay.
