Just when you think he's talking metaphorically about cutting the shoe open this madman actually goes and does it. Fair play.
Its a normal thing to do. But I understand this is new to you.
The whole thing is made out of scrap leather, the point is that you can do stuff like cutting it open. It's basically a prototype.

@@JGStone the whole shoe is like $6k and the shoe in this video is made from “second grade leather” as the guy said. It’s essentially perfectly fine leather that’s not 100% perfect. They’re whole brand is about making the PERFECT shoe so it makes sense they won’t use it. And obviously for that price they have the budget to do the whole process of making a scrap shoe prototype before making the real shoe

The fact that these shoes that are very nice and such are made to be cut up so they can make an better shoe is just telling u how much time care and effort goes Into these, hounestly amazing

@@brbapappa Plastic =/= leather Material is different leads to different shoe. I want a leather shoe not a plastic one therefore a leather shoe must be used for fitting accurately.
I'm sat here on the sofa in my joggy b's, umbro t shirt and slippers, while drinking a beer, and you know what? I feel really sophisticated watching this haha.
Everyone talking about how educational or informative this video is but why the hell is no one talking about just how relaxing and satisfying the cutting portion is to the ears? Proper asmr.

I’ve always been into streetwear and a more grungy look but just seeing the craftsmanship process is beautiful. I don’t think I could be classy even if I wanted to this is a whole different world to me but it’s extremely interesting. Such a well made shoe to be able to be cut and reshaped and yet it still turns out amazing. Really cool video

Very informative. I'm not a fan of the classic style, don't wear any suits or shoes like this but the craft itself, I like watching it. Made to measure will always be the most desirable choice when wanting the best.
I was under the impression this video would be full of questionable fashion choices, but then I saw the suit Tony Gaziano was wearing. Holy shit.

Thank you for a comprehensive education on bespoke shoe fitting. As the science/understanding of podiatry has grown over time, I wondered if our current understandings (toe splay, heel-to-toe drop, pronation, etc.) would filter down into traditional shoe making considerations and cause a rethink of traditional shoe designs.
Lems and Duckfeet use natural foot shaped lasts. I just wish they would make the highest quality resoleable shoes.

Would you consider making a video comparing the shoe creasing patterns of your shoes that are bespoke and ready to wear as well as shoe that is slightly too big/too small. I think it would make for a really informative video as well as highlighting the major advantage of bespoke.
A picture comparison of the above, like in Daniel Wegen shoe video would be really good.

Excellent video Kirby. Like your style my friend. I've always wanted to have a bespoke pair of shoes, and now I know where to go. Tony comes across as a proper knowledgeable craftsman. That "occasionally" was exactly what happened with my first pair from them....the trial fitting shoe was actually absolutely perfect. The finished shoes are en route now, very much looking forward to their arrival.

Good video, a bit theatrical in parts obviously, I think it's worth highlighting that bespoke shoes are nothing like bespoke suits :
You can get a bespoke suit as a one off (special occasion etc) and it'll be fabulous - whereas bespoke shoes are, in my view, an *alternative* to even high end ready made shoes - the first pair may well be a disappointment as the fit adjusts (no guarantees !) however it'll be worth it - you'll have less pairs taking up space and amazing foot-ware 2:1 or 2.5:1 price is a decent proxy for price vs high end RTW (eg Edward Green etc)
Also it can take 6 mths plus for delivery end to end - so plan ahead !

How do you choose which sock weight to use for your fitting? Lightweight hosiery or wool sock? How does one plan for four seasons use?
I’m a 55year old man, I’ve always loved my clothes, my shoe of choice is barker; but to have a pair of bespoke shoes made must be beautiful, topped off with a bespoke suit must make you feel a million dollars. Kirby I must say looks so elegant, 🏴🇬🇧
Its easy when youre rich. Kirby doesnt give a fuck about the poor (less than 5k a month)

My lifestyle wouldn’t warrant a bespoke suit, I’m just saying the experience would be nice, but I will say you don’t have to be rich to have pride in your appearance, I’m a watch guy, tbf I suppose the money I’ve just spent on my new Rolex would have bought me a bespoke suit and shoes, out of the 3, I know what will get worn the most: 🏴🇬🇧

A question I've always wondered about - when the shoe is brand new, i.e. the first wear, is it beneficial to tie it really tight, so it most conforms to the foot during that initial 2mm stretch, or is it better to be a bit loose to minimize how much that initial stretch is?
I wish I could've seen the final product to be honnest !

Never had a custom pair of dress shoes but i do have a custom pair of boots. The process of measuring isn't as complex, you just take the measurement of the ball, instep, heel and the calf. Also mine probably don't cost as nearly as much as these. I would have to guess 2k+ for the fully bespoke models where as i paid $700 and the fit on them is 90-95% perfect.
English riding boots are very involved in measuring for bespoke boots
Three, maybe four camera's and two operators. Plus sound mixer. Quite a set-up for a visit to a shoeshop. I love it.
I don't know why others are here, I just like the sound of him cutting the shoe. Also, pretty calming voice.
When fitting your kid with a new pair of sneakers, don't forget to bring a knife to ensure the perfect fit.

Those small tweaks will make so much difference to your left side, inward turning foot, for walking longer distance. Very interesting.

Here's a question: Wouldn't it be more effective and time efficient to just make a cast of his feet? I mean, I'm sure the fitting is not free nor is the pair of shoes that he butchered for these alterations. If you simply made a cast of your feet he would be able to make you an absolutely exact fit and then be able to continue using the cast for any future pairs you purchase.
Before anybody says it, I'm aware that a big aspect of all of these luxury services is the "experience" and showing a customer that you're willing to take the time to outline every unique aspect of their foot and what you can do to accommodate but to also destroy a perfectly good pair of shoes in the process is quite the statement. I'm just trying to be a realist here.

Another great video. The hand work is also because the micro adjustments an experienced maker does while constructing an item can’t be replicated on a machine. (I wanted to use make about 30 times in that sentence). My only concern is Kirby becoming too British. We need his “external” eye to remain.
