Welcome back to my latest video! Today, we're showcasing the incredible skills of horse trainer Hordur, aka Mister Iceland, as he works with one of of wild Icelandic horses that we caught in part two of this series.
Hordur is an expert in horsemanship, a discipline that focuses on the relationship between humans and horses. Through patience, communication, and respect, Hordur is able to build a strong bond with these wild horses, helping them to trust and cooperate with their human handlers.

This is a lesson for all with this extremely gentle, quiet and understanding of the sensitivities of all horse's. True horsemanship. Beautiful to see. Little talk but saying so much.

A lot of it is the breed! Icelandic horses are very friendly with humans. They can be very sharp for riding though. Also, Icelandics are trained slower because they mature slower - they are full-grown at 7 years.
I love that term “wild to willing”. I hate when people say “I broke him to ride” or “I broke him to drive”. I prefer to say “I backed him” etc so I’ll be adding wild to willing to that list too 😃
I will simply say - give the horse what you want to get in return. Be gentle and respectfull and never forget to communicate in the horses own language. If you act gentle and show respect that is exactly what you will get in return - something we can clearly see here. I love how this will help more people, equestrian and non-equestrian alike, to understand how important it is to give things time!
It's really kind of amazing. After i watched the first video in Iceland i did the breathing thing and really paid attention to my own tension when I was riding and from then until now I have a completely different horse. He's so much more relaxed and content, doesn't spook as much at all. Crazy.

This brings back memories. One of my horses was not a fan of being caught, and I was not a fan of taking feed out to lure him in. So I used to crouch down and pretend to be looking at something interesting. He always came to see what I was looking at. Horses come when curious or they see you are no threat to them. This is good horsemanship. Natural horsemanship. If you listen to your instincts, it becomes logical.

Not only horses but hadur shows us lessons for everyday life.
There’s a lot made of not been dominate with dogs but this is showing the dominant and feminine just showing there’s nothing to be scared follow me.

It’s is absolutely amazing how these ponies can sense leadership with breathing and body language! I love this series in Iceland, I can’t believe how the horses can go from a wild herd in a field to being super calm in the arena ❤

hopefully people that watched this series have learned a different approach to training & being around horses. it shouldn’t be a forced approach, rather a gentle- u speaking horse by body language approach. it’s so much better for the horses & you will have a better relationship & behavior from your horse because of that ❤😊❤

This is true, but also we should keep in mind that Icelandic horses are naturally more docile than many other horse breeds due to their being no predators in Iceland. So other breeds might need more patience to have the same result.
This has definitely increased my already strong enthusiasm for going to Iceland and I would definitely want to go to this exact farm because Mr. Iceland knows what's up. Even just watching this was a cool, educational experience, full of insight that I will use in my own riding.

Thank you so much for sharing this and the wonderful Icelandic horses. I've been lucky enough to ride a Icelandic and experience the wonderful nature of this breed. My yearling Highland lives out with a herd of Icelandics and I'm hoping their excellent nature rubs off on her. Having a fell pony already who was born on the fell and comes from generations of fells who live a natural life its important to me that my highland youngster also learns and maintains a level headed attitude and the sure-footed movement that you cannot get when youngsters are kept in the modern way here in the UK

It is such an amazing thing to know that the way we are enamored by equine of all kinds, the foals, horses, ponies, are often just as enamored by us.

I really enjoyed this series and not just because I like gaited horses. These horses are very lucky to have their own gentle viking. He is so calm, gentle and knowledgeable with the horses. Going on a horse vacation to Iceland has always been on my bucket list. Now I know exactly where!

@@elphick.event.ponies I had friends go on horse vacations to Iceland, but their stories about how the horses are treated where not always positive. That is definitely not the case here. I love it.
I’d like to see more of this kind of thing. It would be cool if you went to a few clinics that were natural horsemanship/Parrelli style training and showed the process. I think more people would be kinder and softer with their horses if they were aware of a different way of training. A calmer trainer = a calmer horse (generally 😂)
positive reinforcement clinics are even more ethical and gentle, as a lot of natural horsemanship revolves around respect - which horses can’t actually comprehend, as their frontal lobe (i believe) is not as advanced as ours is! positive reinforcement is also science based, and has the highest ethicality and effectiveness.
Added this to my horsey bucket list for definite!
The breathing and respectful gentleness is beautiful to see (and learn!). I know Icelandics are on the smaller side, but this mare is so tiny compared to Hordur. Is he super tall or is she very small?
Well , she looks tall and the horse is fatter. So it is making her look tall , And only weight mstters

In the UK most people call them head collars
In the US most people call them halters, I just have never heard of someone calling it a mask.
@@missbutters5305 I suspect it is just a translation issue from Icelandic. The simplest English word for "thing that goes on the face" is mask.

My horse Justina is short coupled and sensitive like the colt they are training -oh she loves to trot -fast-she could be a buggy racer-I breathe and relax too!!!!!! Very good! Only, what was put on the mare's head is a halter, not a mask. I first thought he was going to blindfold her! Very relieved that this is not so.
Yes, Icelandic horses are usually not fully trained till their are five years old. Their bodies need that time to mature to full strength. They are also quite long-lived, so one can have such a horse for a very long time after the initial wait. My very favourite breed!
Mask will just be a translation of the Icelandic word 😊
Yes! They are long lived because of the time they are given to fully grow. Unfortunately this does not happen with enough breeds

Very nice video. When you make you small, You're less scary for horses. He was telling he does everything slowly, but i find it fast. Normaly to put a halter on takes more time. They are half wild, they are used to be in a heard, following humans. Alyssa from "discover the horse" made also a beautiful video about the icelantic horses.👍🎄👏
