Namaste, This is well known UNESCO world heritage "Swayambhunath Stupa". Swayam means "Self" and Bhu means "Born" in Sanskit. Many millennia ago, Kathmandu Valley was a huge body of lake. Before draining the water out of the Kathmandu valley, this lake was a renowned pilgrimage where many enlightened beings came across from different parts of the world to see the "Eternal flame of light" coming out of the lotus in the lake. Later on, well known enlightened being "Manjushree" slacked a small hill in Chovar near Jalbinayak with his sword to drain water out of the valley. After the water was drained the valley was formed and an "Eternal flame of Light" was deposited in the present stupa known as "Swayambhunath".

The guy who explained the temple absolutely spot on. He explained it so well. Before, so many fake tourist guides gave false narrative of the place. I laud the effort of locals to explain to tourists.

Hi,Rayleigh Im your subscribers I watch your videos from imphal india im a Nepalese u are so friendly and open minded nepal is a very safe country peoples of Nepal are very friendly and kind hearted
Hi Ryleigh, how long are you in Nepal for? It looks like you are rushing and not being able to make the most out of your visit in each site, like this one. If I were you, I would start my day early and spend a day learning about the history (like the guide was sharing with you and he would have showed you around all the temples and history behind them). Plus sitting in one corner and watch the world go by, looking at the prayers flags gently moving with the wind, looking at the Swayambhu stupa and its eyes is so soothing. I find the eyes so peaceful and calming every time I go there. When you go to the Patan Durbar Square (my hometown) and Bhaktapur Durbar Square, try and spend a day each. Compared to Kathmandu Durbar Square, they are much better in my opinion. I love how Bhaktapur takes me back to the ancient times while I find the build quality of the temples and durbar (palace), arts and crafts in Patan so much better among the three. Also, you get to enjoy the Newari (native people of Kathmandu Valley) cousine. Try 3G Honacha when in Patan Durbar Square. Our Newari foods are to die for... you will be finger licking and asking for more. I dont know if you like local spirits and beverages but I would definitely recomend you try a bit of Rukshi (grand-father of Tequila) and Thwoh (white rice wine). Lastly, when in Pokhara, go sit buy the Phewa Lake and do nothing. It's just so relaxing and calming. I usually grab a beer by the nearby restaurant and just wind down spending hours just looking at the water and mountains and the world go by. And if you have a few days to spare, do go up to Ghandruk. You will feel that the Machhapuchhre (Fish Tail Mountain) and other mountains are just a stone throw away. Not to be missed! I guaruantee you that you'd love it. I did and can share some pictures if you like.

Good to see you enjoying Nepal and ty for not haggling with cab drivers or the street vendors too much. For them extra 100rs is fair bit and that’s like literally a dollar for us here. So very generous of You. I come from Nepalese background too but live in Sydney. Ty again 🙏

Luved the guided tour of the temple, your guide was so interesting and so much knowledge of buhuddist teachings. Nepali people are beautiful humble people. Thank you ryliegh.🙏
Good to see you popping up on my feeds and some quality content and i am still waiting for your guide to explain about them big bells. The bell: We usually ring the bell before be start praying to the gods in order to purify the atmosphere, clear our mind and the bell itself rings in the frequency that resonates with OOM. The sound of the bell helps our mind to concentrate and focus. Thats what i understand the bell represents. A humble request, monkey temple is the name given by foreigners to save themselves from the twisty tongue situation and i personally dont think its the right thing to rename places with historical and cultural significance to a point where you expect to see loads of monkeys just coz foreigners started calling it monkey temple but instead as you could see the number of dogs were high, i am afraid after few years it may be renamed to the dog temple.
Thank you so much for educating me on it! I had no idea it was a foreigner thing. I’ve only ever heard it called the monkey temple and it shows up in so many articles with that name so thanks for letting me know that is not the official name at all. Appreciate you explaining the bell too! I was so curious about it. Glad you’re enjoying the videos 🙏

I’m also surprised how they dealt with you, as being a locals, never got the chance to know their way of dealings.
Also, the most beautiful about your vlog is, you are a charming lady with a well spoken nature, sweet & humble.
Hey i am watching this from penrith Sydney Australia, the conversation between you and guide on the temple was life changing.. lots of love to you girl… i hope you earn money, knowledge and trust.

Yeah . The tour guide was nice and neatly explained the history of culture. Also he continued the dedication of professionalism even after offering the payment.
Thanks for visiting our beautiful country ❤️.Please also visit rural parts of Nepal too. These places are the real natural beauty and safest places for the tourist also. Because of hospitality, real natural scenery you will collect sweet memory in your life.
I will try to visit the rural areas while I’m here 🙏 Thank you!
Another great video Rayleigh ❤ your channel is growing so fast, well done 👏🏻

The guy who explained the temple absolutely spot on. He explained it so well. Before, so many fake tourist guides gave false narrative of the place. I laud the effort of locals to explain to tourists.

While you're in Nepal, make sure to savor our Nepali cuisines; their authentic flavors are unparalleled anywhere else in the world. How much longer will you be staying there?

🙏
Thank you Ryleigh for exploring my beautiful country. I love watching your vlog, love the way you interact with local people. Keep growing and I hope you bring videos for us more often.
Thank you 🙏🙏
You’re definitely a head turner in Nepal. An ideal Khas Arya. I wouldn’t be surprised if you spoke Nepali. Kinda reminds me of Droupadi. Beautiful, lotus eyed Kshatriya negotiator. P.s. My translation of Swayambhunath would be that every one on this earth should be a protector of themselves. If you’re in ny hmu. Have fun love!
Watching the vlog from Canada oh how much I miss that hill with the sun going down. Following up from your Pashupatinath video, you are a genuinely nice person Ryleigh! Enjoy your India trip.
Congratulations for 100 k views ❤️🇳🇵
the way she say Namaste show how much she has respect for other cultures and i really bow down to her with utmost respect towards her. you are not just travelling for you but also indirectly contributing to their economy by your expenses. long live Ryle !. Just make sure to stay away from scouts
You are such a typical Sydney sider. Saying things like: I’m so unfit, I’m starviiiinnnngg. Haha ! Good to see you enjoying Nepal and ty for not haggling with cab drivers or the street vendors too much. For them extra 100rs is fair bit and that’s like literally a dollar for us here. So very generous of You. I come from Nepalese background too but live in Sydney.
Ty again 🙏
I was in February in Kath, Pok and the ABC Trek, seeing your content about Nepal just brings back so many good memories.

So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching 🙏
