To pay off a credit card, again. I have two kids that grew a lot on me almost every season and I couldn't keep up with it. So now, I'm paying it off again, while trying to save up money for them. That's my no spend challenge. Super hard, but will be rewarding

I have started doing no spend challenges on clothing for 3 months at a time, to save money and have less of a negative impact on the environment.

Although I'm not doing a no-spend challenge, I am doing an "ethical-clothes-only" year. I'm not a big shopper, but I recently did some research and found that much of my closet comes from brands having negative environmental and social impacts. So, the clothes I buy this year have to either be 1) made local 2) thrifted or 3) made by ethical brands (Good on You is a great resource for this). It sounds tough, but I decided that if I'm not willing to put the effort into making sure my clothing fits into one of those categories, then I don't need to buy more clothes. Good luck to everyone on achieving your personal goals this year!

Me too!! I’ve recently found some eco conscious local brands and a few thrifting businesses that I choose to support. I noticed that it started to become a spending addiction for me as well so I’ve decided to just shop only when I have store credit from consigning from these stores. Takes care of both my clutter and spending issues. Haha

I‘m started that same challenge last year and it went so well, that I am never going back! All my clothes last year have been thrifted and by companies with high ethical and quality standards. I find that by buying quality over quantity, I have no need to buy new clothes often, which is a great side effect. Good luck with the challenge, I believe in you.

Less material clutter is less mental clutter. Material possession obsession is so unhealthy. I was stuck in this loop for years and am on my way out. I find my head is so much more clear with less stuff. More time for things that matter. More of a reason to focus on quality in the things I do have. Helps keep perspective and remind me to be grateful for what I do have. This is my why.

After making the decision to eliminate synthetic material from my wardrobe (95%) I have my wool and cotton mostly comfortable duds. I’m keeping some dress clothes for weddings /funerals or the unknowns. Since I’m predominantly in a rural area there’s not a clic for conformity besides I do me pretty well !
I eliminated half of my closet goods and have room to organize the rest. I’m finding freedom !!
Gonna keep going with the process as I have a ways to go .
As a craftsman I choose to keep my tools and will bequeath excess in that area to encourage or inspire others to work with wood. Bigger payoff than to make a little from selling them. Kitchen and household items are being given to a free store for needy persons .
I’m not a radical minimalist but I’m seeing a benefit from getting stuff out of here so I can get on with life as a focused person !!

My why is to beef up my emergency fund after a lot of unexpected expenses last year. I have a tendency to just mindlessly add little things to my cart, but lots of little purchases add up quick! I’ve basically set myself a budget for non-essentials this year, so not quite a no-spend, but it’s already made me way more conscious about what I bring into my home.

As somebody that spent their money in a VERY stupid way quite recently, i think it's really a good idea to slow the heck down and actually save it up. I've already managed to quit buying clothes that i don't need, which is a huge move. Now just to not spend money on stupid things i don't need and i can finally really save up. Imma try this challenge and see if i can do it.

I'm on another of many no spends. I pay my rent & utilities, purchase necessaries like T.P., vitamins, soap (don't use body wash). Of course, food is necessary and I have minimized this as much as possible. I'm car free and the bus is inexpensive. I have only a few medical co-pays for specialists I must see periodically (this year that's primarily cataract surgery and hospital ill. That's it for this year. I'm paying off my last $3000 dollars and then, after many years, I'll be debt free and able to save way more. I live on under $1500 a month and this has taken a long time. I'm sure I'm not the only elder in this situation. Don't give up! If I can do this, so can you. I think the biggest revelation was when I learned to say, "because I don't want it and "Because I don't want to". Those were big for me!

You could also do a no toiletry challenge to assist with no buy 😂 my laziness made me realize I don't need face wash or moisturizer, body wash or moisturizer, shampoo, conditioner, commercial deodorant, etc. I did start washing my hair again (but weekly instead of daily) after 15 months because hard water made it difficult to maintain, but otherwise it was awesome! I still occasionally used tinted sunscreen, mascara, lipstick or gloss, and makeup remover. I use water with a little apple cider vinegar as deodorant. Simple fragrance free bar soap for my hands. Sometimes laziness can be used advantageously. Good times! The hardest no buy for me would be no eating out. I don't need things (or I can easily wait to buy them), but I loooooove eating out.

I'm a university student, first year too, and I've been stress buying alot (I have a tough home situation and a difficult major that soaks up my time and energy despite loving the major), so my savings took a major hit. My wallet feels very empty and I can't save up to buy things that really mean to me (like an art tablet that I've been wanting for years at this point).
So, I'm going to start a no spend challenge, try and get my finances and 'retail therapy' under control.

When I was busy with my projects, I didn't have time to think about buying anything, and had no interest in buying anything (maybe I am too cheap). I live 2 miles away from my office, I walk to work everyday. I eat breakfast at home, bring my own lunch to my office, and brew my own coffee in my office. For the last 6 years I haven't carried any cash in my pocket. I only carry a phone with a credit card for emergence. I guess people like me are born to be a minimalist. The good thing is that when I need to buy something that is really necessary, I never bother to check my bank account balance or credit card balance. Yes, I am frugal, I am cheap, but I enjoy the sense of financial security.

Thanks for the tips! I'm going to attempt a no-spending money tomorrow because we just moved overseas. Even though the military helped, it was still very expensive. However, I got into a habit of spending. Replacing pantry items and cleaning supplies quickly turned into purchasing unnecessary items... like my labeler. The line if "want" vs. "Need" greyed, so now I'm hoping to get back into the habit of frugality

I just took a break from my healthcare job so need to really budget my money. And interesting to see what I really need not want. Fruits, veggies and gas for the car I’m hoping are my only “spends”.

First off_loved this video. Not only were there great tips but also writing exercises that I will be doing!
I want to do a spending freeze for a week. I have been spending an insane amount of money eating out and have been for a very long time.
Not only do I want to start saving more money but I want to become a more financially responsible person.
    Thank you for the video!

My why is because I want to save up for a weekendtrip to Aarhus (DK) so my son and I can attend an event for families affected by Noonan syndrome. A rare genetic condition that my youngest son suffers from. The thought of seing my son playing with other children affected by Noonans and me meeting other parents of specialneeds children, is a huge motivation. I'm planning on doing the entire month of February on level medium. That'll save us some money.

I've been waiting for this for months, Thank you for hosting this challenge! I do a no spend at the beginning of each year, but it's fun to do it with others.
My why: we only have 2k left in debt to pay off and I'm ready for it to be gone.
The only thing I'm allowing $ for in the next 3 months is soil for my garden expansion. And 1 dinner out with husband (because he would feel deprived if we didn't).
I am focused on healing my body at the moment, so walking & working the garden will be my areas to keep me from getting bored. As well as a sugar cleanse. Thanks again Marissa! Great luck everyone!

I just (mostly successfully) finished a no spend month prompted by another TH-camr, so I have a few things I have to buy. But my goal is to buy the few items I know I need (the delayed gratification is great for crystallizing needs vs wants) in the first week of February and then go for the medium track the other three weeks. Unfortunately we had about $500 in unexpected vet bills that undid the financial good of our no spend January, so recuperating from that and hopefully getting a little bit ahead will be a major incentive. Thanks for the inspiration and great tips Marissa!

I think it might be impossible to do a no spend challenge on the second half of senior year for my twin girls. One of my daughters said she would wear her homecoming dress to prom too. Love that kid! My other daughter said she would "try" to keep her dress around $100. LOL Bless! In hind sight, we should have started saving money for Senior trip, homecoming and prom at the beginning of the school year.

I am don't have a problem with not buying clothes and household stuff, but due to many food allergies, if I see 'my' foodstuffs at a good price, I can't seem to rely on the inventory and just have to get more. MUST STOP IT for FEB 🙏

I always do a weekly financial detox by not going out nor shopping online! I try to finish all the food i have before going to buy more , when i buy something to wear I choose a good brand not the cheapest to avoid buying more

Why? Because I need to use up what I already have. I’ve been so blessed with easy access to food, clothes and craft materials despite the *pandemic* and I need to be thankful and use them all up before purchasing more.

While not doing a strict no spend challenge in February (I used a restaurant gift card I got for Christmas toward a fun meal for the family!), I am definitely using this as a "pause" month, because even though I have more Christmas cash to spend on things for myself, and would like to get some supplies for an art project... I want to be sure that I am really planning something I will love for years and years, and not simply going backward when I am seeing such decluttering progress. :)
