I bought the neighbors 98 Grand Cherokee LTD.
I drive it to smog,no problem.
On returning home the trans started slipping. I think it's bogging because of a fuel filter or low fuel.
Now the car has to be towed home.
I missed that the fluid level was way above normal.I removed over a quart to get it back in normal range as indicated by the dip stick.
      Still nothing.
I let it sit to see if fluid would drain out further.
How bad is it? What are the ramifications of too much transmission fluid?

Depends. I sold a 2013 Silverado with around 200k on it, half of which was highway driving towing trailers. Dealer and my local shop said the trans was in immaculate shape and still shifted smooth as butter like it did on day one. Too bad the lifters and other stuff was going bad or I would have kept it but the cost to do the other repairs was getting to be a lot (mostly labor). In fact the trans was one of the few major components that was still good in that truck....

Indeed, the amount of engineering know-how and experience that goes into cars to make them as reliable, easy to use, and nearly maintenance-free as they are is truly astonishing.
Most things you buy for your home with any sort of mechanical parts will probably only be used a few minutes per day and still last only a couple years. Most cars will live for decades out in the harsh conditions of the world with tens of thousands of hours, needing only some fluids and other consumable parts replaced every now and then.
It's beyond awe-inspiring how much use and abuse these things can take and still keep going. True masterpieces of the art form.

Yikes... my '06 Chrysler 300 has been doing this since I bought it about 10 years ago. On a cold start I let the engine idle for about a minute or so and then shift to D with brake on and let it run for 10 secs and then shift to R for another 10 secs and then back to D. (The colder the weather the more cycles... and that's Canada cold.) Surprisingly, the manual says that the shift into D on a cold start may not respond to forward motion as desired... really!
The trans runs fine afterwards and has never faltered in up/down shifting. Iits been 10 years and counting.

If you failed to grasp he was speaking of automatics when the video clearly showed him sitting in a vehicle equipped with an automatic then transmission issues aren't even on your radar. You push the clutch in to start a standard equipped vehicle, did Scotty mention that? No. You don't check standard transmission fluid by pulling out a dipstick. Low fluid in a standard equipped transmission will not delay a vehicles movement once in gear. He clearly said if your TRANSMISSION shifts hard when going down the road. Not, if it's hard for YOU to shift gears going down the road. Knowing which transmission he's speaking about is common sense to people with basic knowledge of autos.

My car does the thing where it doesn't move when I put it into reverse, but only if the car has sat unused for at least a few days. The longer it sits unused, the longer it takes to start moving. It starts moving after somewhere between 5-15 seconds and acts completely normal within another 30. When driving it daily, it doesn't do that. Was driving down the road and when it went to go from 2nd to 3rd, the car tensed up and made a loud thump. The transmission just dropped into a neutral and the car stalled.
Unfortunately fixing the leak and refilling the fluid didn't completely fix the issue for me though. Something got damaged in that loud thunk I believe. Because after that whenever the car we go for 2nd to 3rd, it would shift extremely hard.
But I was at 240,000 plus miles at this point so wasn't complaining.

Only use very warm water & a microfiber cloth to wash it, then dry, a section at a time...hood, dog house, doors, trunk, rear. No detergent at all is best! Just plain water.
By the way, use a black pigmented 3 step car detailing cleaner/wax/polish, each in their separate bottles, once a year. Sure, it'll take all day, but the payoff in the end in priceless! Trust me on that!
