I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well th-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

Really enjoyed the more introspective VO to start the vid. That stenciling strat probably works better for production lures/1 day builds than something you can take your time and hand paint. For baits like this one its fine to keep the more detailed fins. Good baits catch a lot of fish, great baits catch a lot of fishermen.

They make clear plastic sticker material for stencils on cars. It’s made to stencil flames or graphics on a car, but it’s sticky on one side and plastic. I think maybe burning hole into the plastic would be easier and it’s a sticker so easy to stick on the bait and seal itself to the bait and have a clean no overspray finish. They make it triple layer double sided too, so you could actually make your pattern, peel one side, paint the left side of the bait, then take it off peel the opposite side of the sheet and paint the other side of the bait with the exact same stencils, the sheet itself becomes a mirror image of itself when you peel the opposite side so you have a left and a right side, painting cars you want matching flames on both sides so it’s a double stencil, Good luck pal thanks for the videos.

I have used spray paint to paint lures. I always start with white spray paint for the base coat. The trick is to hold the lure far away from the nozzle.
The first coat of paint, you want to use an extremely lite coat. Like you are just misting it with the paint. I do 2-3 coats of FLAT (ha)white. AVOID gloss or semi gloss paints for your base coats and "skin" colors. Additional layers of paint will adhere better to FLAT paints. Give plenty of time between coats for the paint layers to dry. High contrast colors will look the best as opposed to using similar colors in regard to skin tone vs. Scale color. Get you some window screen replacement roll from Home Depot, the economy window screen will work fine. I recommend using metallic paint for your scales. I would buy pearl white, gold, silver, and whatever other metallic colors you think might look like fish scales. Oh and clamps to hold the window screen tight onto your lure. The trick is that "Less is more", use ridiculously lite coats of metallic paints or the area that the window screen is covering will be covered and you will lose the effect of the scales. I usually start with Pearl White when spraying the scales and then add the different metallic colors. And I can not stress enough to hold the bait far from the nozzle of the spay can. Like nearly an arms length away. You just want a lite misting of each color.

    • @aficionadolurecompany700
      @aficionadolurecompany700 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Oh and yes you DO want to do a few coats of Clear Coat spray paint or Triple Thick Polycrylic spray works too.

Knowing magnets and metal...Im curious...has your hand saw ever become magnetized from rubbing it over the magnet block? Also inspired for a bait idea....in the joints what if you were to put small magnets opposing each other so the joints are magnetically pushed back...I feel like that would make a swim bait more "muscular" with it's strides....almost like using the magnets as artificial muscles to push the body back...also I absolutely love the mini lures I had got one from Walmart for $1.25 and I've caught more fish on this mini lure then I have on my $35 realistic looking swim bait....

Idea for stencil: print your fish on one of those plastic sheets made for overhead projectors (flashback to schools in the 80-90's) and then drill out the pattern or melt with the soldering iron? Should be sharper edges and the it won't soak in the paint like paper.

A White bass Swimbait is an awesome idea. I use a Saltwater Megabass Vatalian that looks like a whitebass when Whitebass are running. The big bass smash it. Your spot on about it being a forage fish, with the numbers of em that move to spawn, Predators go crazy for em.

Dont use hard plastics for fins, they are to rigid. Use soft rubber or silicone that will collapse under pressure exposing sharp Hook points. Plus fins move they are not flat solid straight. It must move like bait or fish. Fish and bait have a certain movement. Have you ever seen a fish suspended. I know you have, picture it. Whats it doing? Nothing but siting still, but its front lower fins are just Waving back and forth with little to no effort not going forward not going backwards. This is how we relax on the Couch. You could do that same lure with half or less in cost in plastic and silicone. Ok! Dont get me wrong this is a work of Art, Hand Crafted by a very skilled man. I love your work, keep on thinking, making, most of all do what you love! Oh! It will catch a Big One Someday. BW63 Peace Brother

Awesome video. I feel when you're (not you in particular) trying to multitask (entertain/talk + make baits), its easy to diminish the quality of the tasks. Lure making may be best when its just lure making. Talking may be best when its jus talking. Tldr; Lure making = life

  • @sugashizane

1st the lure looks beautiful man!!
    2nd is a question???
Why dont you use the plastics fins and make soft plastics molds that would pin in place.. therefore the lure would have more action (every fish loves more action) and would have the realistic look and feel to you and the fishes mouth. It would also make hook up ratios better because the soft plastic would easily flex out of the way when ripping them lips??? Eh? Your mold master, you can do it man, been watched you since the beginning. Soft plastic molds the pin in on some baits. Hit me back

Fantastic build with an awesome end product! Enjoyed your craftsmanship. Perhaps tease yourself with developing collapsing fins; similar to that of a hand-held fan that women use in Japan/China. When displayed out of water the fins would show full (dare I say it) erection, but when being reeled in they would collapse flat - similar to actual conditions - and they would not impede the ever-so important hoop-up ratios. 🙂

Go for fruitier tasting peppers in the coffee, jalapeno are kind of vegetal --like bells; I'd think scotch bonnets, bird chili, thai chili, some of the really fruity special hybrids (like pineapple or peach aji) out there may also get tossed into coffee too. Cayenne is very berry-fruit tasting, almost like cherries believe it or not lol.
Another weird thing is to take dark, kind of heavy tasting coffee and brew it with a bag of earl grey tea, it's an old british thing which is surprisingly good.
Coffee fruit itself is really odd, fresh it kindof tastes like the smell of soysauce and earth mixed with cranberries.

Also, you should try making your fins out of soft plastic. Like, have you buddy at Epic Bait Molds make you up an injection mold that is just fins. Then glue those fins into the wooden bait.

Replicate this bait with your soft plastics for fins ... that may improve hook-ups.

So quick and probably stupid question, why don't you make the fins that were preventing hook up out of silicone? Then you have the molds already made if they get ripped out by a fish or anything else and the molds probably wouldn't use up a lot of silicone so it probably wouldn't be a very material heavy thing

Love the content! I make a few lures but no for TH-cam or commercially. I had same issues with my broken back white bass. I changed over the pec and dor fins to medium blend worm blend instead of hard lexan. I use a a thin piece of plastic to wedge those fins in. Works like a champ and hookup went up exponentially. Btw yours looks way better than my lure. You had to have had to hide behind a tree to tie that thing on lol 😂.

I may be wrong but I think you'd be happier with bait balance if you did the trick Engineered Angler uses to find the volume of your bait. Then you know how much your bait will have to weigh to sink or float.

Ja, the voice over style is good. It allows you to be 100% into the kraft and then your commentary can have more info. Like the cayenne coffee, if you were focussed on working while talking would you have thought of that?
