- The Spirituality of Star Wars is destroyed and there's only one thing I can do about it. Make a long video analyzing all 9 movies.

This is one of the best Star Wars essays I’ve ever seen - I think you really hit the nail on the head on why SW has persisted and why Disney SW rings hollow.
Good call. The straight answer is "they don't want it". Don't forget who makes these now. But even in the 90s w/Lucas directing they had lost the idea of spirituality in these films. That literally MADE them. It gave the desire to do GOOD & fight the good fight.
Dark times we live in now, evil people deluding good so they seem better, blurring lines. Dark times indeed.
Marvelous essay. I’m really impressed with your symbolic instinct, where you can so easily go beyond the surface level of Star Wars to the metaphysics it points to.
Star Wars really is a modern myth in how it presents spiritual truths through story. I had seen this in the original trilogy and The Last Jedi, but your introspective look into Anakin’s journey helped me see the prequels in a new light.
Well done! This reminds me a bit of what I was going for in my video exploring the Multiverse of Madness. I would love to chat about spirituality and symbolism in media sometime.
I would love to chat! I'll go ahead and shoot you an email.
'You don't get rich writing science fiction. If you want to get rich, you start a religion.' George understood this.
L Ron, Joseph Smith and Jesus agree
@@LDrosophila jesus wouldnt agree, he died in the most brutal way imaginable and didnt receive a dime
@@LDrosophila Jesus? The table flipper? You sure about that? 😂
You may also find the KOTOR duology interesting as they go deeper into Jedi and Sith philosophies. In fact, the Sith are basically Nietzscheans while the Jedi are Buddhists.
THANK YOU for making this video. I've played with the idea of doing something like this for years now but could never bring myself to do it; frankly, you've done a better job than I could have anyway! Very, very cool to see.
If I had to narrow it down to one word, as to like I love Star Wars, I would go with
"hope"
Disney Star Wars has none of that, but the swelling themes from the OG is enough to remind me
Surely one of the best videos about Star Wars. Excelent job.
Seriously good spiritually focused analysis. The Skywalker story is very much a once in a eon myth making moment in the Star Wars universe. There's a reason why it all started out as being depicted in a thousands of years old book, Journal of the Whills.
Excellent video! You seem to have very good insight on Star Wars.
well ain't this guy a smart cookie
This is what I haven been doing with my manga, no wonder its so star wars influenced! 4:00
Same thing happened with the Avatar series.
Legend of Korra and every other adaptation completely lost everything that made ATLA special.
We will be burned at the stake for this take!
Glad I haven’t seen Korra. I was thinking of watching it but I’m good.
@@morpho5539 it's still worth, it's just very challenging. There are very good seasons in that show (with good, interesting stuff in them)
As I say in all videos such as these.... given what Disney is doing to the IP right now... one would think the fandom to look a little more charitable at the Prequel trilogy.
If you actually listen to Campbell, Stat Wars has nothing to do with what he's talking about.
Amazing video! I watched all
The power of one sun the power of two
It did my tank at all in the Prequels.
This is a damn good essay
Active Murder to Instinct is a pretty massive leap. You can make a symbolic argument but it’s very forced from a narrative perspective and not very convincing. Same again with Anakin. This is not in relation to the nature of spirituality
It became about midichlorians which is too scientific in the prequel. Its sort of like what happened to Indiana Jones it went from the supernatural and religious artifacts to freakin Aliens and a nuked fridge. Then in Disney the Spear of Longinus was a fake. In Last Jedi Luke was like an apostate of the Force, it's time for the Jedi to end.
Good analysis
The one demographic that is the least religious in the US are the progressive liberals and leftist demographics. These are also the people in charge of Star Wars
Not that you have to be religious or non-left leaning to make Star Wars but moreso that not respecting nor truly understanding the religious component in relation to spirituality is why modern SW is dogshet. It is no longer concerned with metaphysics, as this analysis explores
Instead, modern Star Wars is dedicated purely to New Age cult-like thinking (the individual stymied during the process) with philosophical materialism becoming the inherent 'good' which governs their understanding of the world......rather than that of a universal sense of spiritual fulfillment - which runs counter to their philosophical materialism and the frailties of man, in general.
So yeah, since the people in charge of modern SW and the critics who reinforce them are philosophical materialists and hate religion/religious concepts, the art naturally reflects as such . They behave more like the Sith and the Empire. Therefore, it doesn't feel the same.
The Vader mask in TFA makes no sense whatsoever !
Vader is space Jesus/chosen because Dune.
Start a cult or make a movie?
Joseph Campbell is actually overrated, watch Jessie Gender and Maggie May essays
Well, according to leslie headland, if you think George is the reason his work is a masterpiece, "That's the autore myth. That's the misogyny. " starwars is now in the hands of neo feminist, moral relativest hacks..🤨🤡👎
Do you feel you need to attack the prequels in order to make a Star Wars video? How was the spirituality affected in the prequels? Do you have ANY kind of argument for that? There is this subconscious fear in youtubers that stops them from being honest and direct about the prequels. The spirituality was explored EVEN FURTHER in the prequels because it was a much more tragic story, in the real sense of the word. It's a humble modern Oedipus and New Testament. Each Star Wars film released with Lucas revealed a much more deeper aspect of spirituality.
You don't need to have a quota of hate towards the prequels in order to avoid backlash from your followers. People in general actually love the prequels.
tbf the prequels introduced midichlorians, which takes away from the spiritual nature of the force in a lot of ways.
side note, the D+ stuff, specifically the acolyte, has ADDED a bunch of spirituality back into star wars. the lore is being expanded and explored a lot.
@@deusdragonex The 2nd part of your coment makes me suspect you are not quite familiar with the concept of spirituality. Think of it as a form of psychological treatment through self reflection. This is the correct way to approach the subject.
The acolyte is just adding lore for the sake of it, you are in a completely different conversation than the video.
Maybe in this way you'll realize midichlorians didn't affect spirituality in Star Wars, it just added lore, but with a purpose this time.
man you prequel fans are insufferable 😂 what if, and this is crazy I know... the videomaker just genuinely holds that opinion and has a well-reasoned argument about the prequels? and fuckin hell... The prequels are a modern Oedipus and the New Testament? Take a step back and look at your opinions critically man
@@deusdragonex when you said D+ stuff I thought you meant a tier for a second (I'm not trying to be facetious) lol
prequels stunk buddy
If you want to experience a well-constructed deconstruction of Star Wars, then I suggest you play Knights of the Old Republic 2 instead of watching The Last Twitter. Apart from that, this is a fantastic video.
What made the original Star Wars unique was that the film took itself seriously. Before that all Sci-Fi was played tongue in cheek. I walked out of the theater and both me and brother said 'That seemed real, it was just set in another place.' That is what made Star Wars special.
Sin enslaves us.
Yup
You know what I find funny about the whole "Chewie didn't get a medal" so called plothole whining? You know who else wasn't shown getting a medal? Everyone else in that battle. Only the two pilots/ship-captains who were not originally part of the rebelion did. The entire point of that cerimony-ritual is to be symbolic, and the pilot/captain symbolizes their ship and crew so that is who get an unspecific medal, "Hans' medal" is really his and Chewies, Luke's is his and R2's.
You are so wrong about the spirituality going down hill in the prequels
People don't give George nearly enough credit for what he actually did. People always act like he had no idea what he was doing and everyone around him actually made the movie. Just "crazy old George" and his wild ideas when he did actually make these movies with purpose, and it wasn't just to add lore to the lore catalogue.
What if Jesus turned out to be hitler? I do not like the prequels also pretty sure he took from dune again for anakin
The jedi can have emotions, but they are meant to be controled, not the other away around. Attachemants are avoided because the Jedi are professionals towards everyone. Their love is that of duty and of good service. To create permanent attachmeants hinders that professional servants. Now if they chose another path of professional servant and choose another path, say "retured: then their shouldnt be an issue with raising families, but its not the original goal. Its after service is done.
yet another banger!!!! more research was put into this video than into the actual sequel trilogy methinks
i do think that while the deconstruction of the myth in episode viii Could have been a fresh take on bringing spirituality back into the series, in the end presenting the concrete opinion of Jedi Bad instead of just hosting that discussion and leading the viewer to think for themselves feels more similar to the episode ix pr-style approach than to inviting actual spiritual discussion and serious criticism of the past Jedi
and also ironically has a more sith-like air of 'this is Actually how it was because i said so' instead of 'let's discuss these old characters in a new light'
but ultimately i don't know that the sequel trilogy could've ever presented spirituality in any meaningful way when the main priority was so clearly to make money above all else, including telling a good story
excellent video though!!! i feel like i understand the films a lot more now
first
I would sign a petition to make you head of the spirituality department for Star Wars
I am glad you got more views on this video, very deserved
