    Hey, Klowny,
I used your' idea yesterday after seeing your vid. I completely emptied an almost empty paint can and drilled a hole .213, #3 drill about 3" from the top. Flushed it through the drilled hole with Mineral spirits to clean out excess paint. I stuck a tire valve in the hole and soldered it with a soldering iron. Don't have to worry about flame that way. Put a little more spirits to clean nozzle. Put 90 lbs. air in through tire air fitting on the side. it is easier than trying to charge through top nozzle. I had an air gage I mounted on a tire nozzle for my lawnmower. It told me exact pressure. That way I don't lose any pressure while checking. Works great with water will try spraying paint tomorrow. I like my new refillable paint sprayer. Thanks.

thanks for the video. I know people be dissing this whole thing saying its too costly and all. all i gotta say is, some of us are smart enough to actually have the items needed around as is. This method should allow me to save the contents of more than 40 or so cans of spray paint that were effected by changing temperatures, and are rather full. I have a tire valve stem sitting around, and a compressor, so not only do i not need to buy anything, im also going to keep a good amount of more waste being created, and use the paint that has been made rather than another can going to the recycling full of paint, a wasted product.

you can also use a rubber tip air nozzle right on the plastic can tip to re-fill it with air and get the last of the oil out, old school shop trick, but for re-filling, that's awesome I will have to try that!

Good info, thanks for sharing. A simple method I use to re-pressurize a can is simply (well first protect your face arms and hands) pull the top off, set compressor so you don't blow it up, take a rubber tip air gun apply air and depress top at the same time. Then you have the pressure to empty the lubricant or whatever was in it.

  • @warren52nz

That's great! I didn't know it was possible.
One caution though. When I was young I drove a garbage truck over the summer holidays and we used to pour gasoline on the piles of garbage at the dump and light them. At some point the aerosol cans would start to pop and I can confirm they're like BOMBS when they go off!!!
So I'd go on the light side of the pressure you use if you do this.

yes over pressure can be dangerous, we cannot fill em up full pressure, can must be rust free as well, but if we don't get too greedy with max pressure, things should be ok

if you take a five foot section three-quarter inch inner diameter air hose put a male quick disconnect on one end with your air Chuck on the other end you can put your fluid inside that 5 foot section and go directly through the valve stem saving a lot of time and effort you are very welcome

    • @rickymcgrath2314

The only thing is how do you get the paint into the can in the first place. And how much paint to how much air / how do you know right amounts even if you could fill a can up? Really cool video may give it a try to see how pro quality it comes out. Because getting tons of match paint in spray can form is difficult.

I use a large deodorant can that I completely removed the scent from.
This can is used for storing extra butane from waste bottles of butane.
Basically I heat up the nearly empty or "empty" butane can, and freeze the deodorant can.
By using an adapter found in the cap is a butane can, I can transfer the gas without losing any.

If you don't have an air compressor... (which most people don't have) You can fill it back up with compressed air by just going to a gas station that has an air hose for tires and use their hose to charge the can up. You'll have to check the air pressure to make sure you don't overcharge it of course but it beats buying an air compressor to save a few pennies on a spray can.

    • @indrekkpringi

Yes: In fact I have one. Only the cost of buying a tire valve and a Schrader valve tool: you could re-use any spray can and fill them up with anything you want: But how many times does anyone use a spray can?
      I don't need this crap.
You must be really lonely to troll something as trivial as this.

I tried this with adding purple power to a former break cleaner can and I couldn't get it to fill. Why? Air wanted (but couldn't) to come out of the small plastic tube as the fluid tried to go in. I had to pull a vacuum on the can, then dip the tip in Purple power and let it suck in the fluid. it took 4 times to get the can to the 70% full. Pressurizing worked just as easy as you show. Next, I have a 1/3 full spray paint can that's lost its pressure over the years but the color matches something I've used before, so this is perfect and easy for that.

Be aware that the chemistry could be a problem. Some materials do not behave well under pressure with air. What your example is seems to be OK but not all. Example: Methane under pressure with air...explodes.

    • @watchgoose
      @watchgoose 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

um, they had to fill that can with that material the first time, didn't they?

    • @exenrontexas
      @exenrontexas 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Done under careful condition with control it is normally not a problem but consider that plain air is almost never used as an aerosol propellant because it might be so dangerous. I would have researched the chemical interactions first and then used a normally non-reactive gas such as refrigerant.

Nice shoes Klowny. The gas normally in the can is more compressible than air, so this won't last as long as the original fill. But air'll work in a pinch.

Only one suggestion and that is to insure that you do not overfill the can with compressed air or you will have a heck of a bomb going off in your hand. I would suggest a regulated air supply limited to 80 - 90 lbs of pressure at most. Plus as with a
tire it would be much better if you had it in a container to shild you from the can should it might burst. Glove would be a
help and wear safety glasses when doing somethig like ths.

When you fill the bottle with a liquid, place some fitings around the male threads of the valve in order to get a bigger hole ( inversed reducers). Filling will be easier...

I'm going to try this. One problem I have is that my spray paint cans seen to get stopped up somewhere in the line that runs from the bottom of the can up to the spray tip.

  • @natefidalgo7625

I am wondering about a similar thing. I am wondering how the companies can put paint cans in spray can form. Like if i got to a local hardware store or paint store get a paint matched in a paint can form. Is there a simple way with an air compressor i could take an empty aerosol can and fill it up with paint and compressed air to make my own spray can bottles? Because it sucks buying all these spray can bottles if i can wash out clean and reuses with other paints to make all different color aerosol spray cans from scratch. Because some time its hard to get a paint match in spray can form. I could uses a method similar to this to convert from can form to aerosol can form

you can do this with butane lighter gas, it is much more effective, as the air will soon become depleted. I firstly charge the aerosol with the liquid to be sprayed, then chill it in the freezer in preparation for charging with butane propellant. chilling the aerosol allows a full charge of butane propellant to be put in.

You could solder the copper part of the valve into the can.
Make sure the valve of the can itself doesn't get to hot.
There are other videos which show how to do that.
