    • @mono-311
      @mono-311 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I would think that your first concern is not that important considering that dropping keyboards happens almost never for most users. Fingers won't do any damage to ceramics no matter how hard you type. Ceramics are brittle, but still relatively very tough.
      Slamming or punching (very very hard) your keyboard could possibly shatter the keycaps, but that could easily be prevented. Just breathe, calm down, and don't punch or slam your keyboard

      @@Keybored i do a lot of work in a ceramic studt, the coating on the keycaps is a glaze, its very hard to get a matte finish and a good texture, usually it is pretty rough so people tend to stick with glossier glazes as it feels better, the glaze also runs and sometimes has a hard time sticking to the edges, as you can see above, on the top of the keycaps, there is a little ring where the glaze ran, thats why some places are missing the black finish, i hope you guys can find this helpful

    I placed an order for a set of these for a very special mechanical keyboard, my Abkoncore AR87. An incredibly special keyboard, weighing in at nearly 7 pounds of machined aluminum, deserves incredibly special keycaps.
    So rather than using my all-stainless steel keycap set. Which were OEM Profile and didn't quite fit the style as this keyboard was really designed to be used with Cherry Profile. I went ahead with this instead! I'm extremely excited to be one of the first with an all-ceramic keycap set in exclusive Crazed Blue.
    In addition to the other mods I've got planned like soldering LEDs to backlight the keycaps etc. It'll be about as custom as it can get and incredibly rare, a crown jewel of a keyboard as it were, that'll be durable enough to last forever and something special I hope to pass down someday.
    They let me know since they got over 4,000 orders, they plan to get them all manufactured and shipped by August-October of this year!!
    May the Thock be with you.

  • @flockofwildcactus
    @flockofwildcactus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I bet they have some serious weight compared to plastics haha, but as someone who has worked with various ceramic types and coatings before, the glaze does seem quite smooth as you'd expect. I'm not sure I'd like that personally, especially if your hand gets too dry or even remotely sweaty it'll be sliding all over the place, and conversely if your fingers stick to them then that doesn't help with ease of movement either. Definitely sounds good in this board regardless. Are the undersides uncoated and if so, does it have any texture? The legend versions look promising and I'm wondering how they achieve that and if it's clear-coated (the site says they use decals, likely under clear coat, which is neat technically speaking). I am looking forward to more types/styles since there are many kinds of ceramics :) Cheers!

    "Blurry65" sounds like a legit keyboard. 😂
    These sound like all high profile caps combined. Like, their spacebars had children.
    Love the video as always -- though I do miss the deeper dive into the "why" behind the sound. You've started to normalize certain terms with me -- like air vs. structure borne sound. I would guess in this build, the caps are far more impactful than the board, and so the sound stems more from the ceramic directly. (And thus ends my cheap imitation of keybored science.)
    Also, do you prefer Arisu style over split? I know you've got experience with both now.

    You should make a 'clacky' build, personally I am not a big fan of deep sounds. Just a suggestion from preference.

    • @Keybored
      @Keybored  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Clacky builds are fun too! epbt caps and the right switches + CF plate on a alu board... insane clack

    I use an ErgoDox EZ, and I'm looking to get ceramic key caps. I noticed you're using nonstandard space bars. Did you need to ask for a custom set, or were you able to adapt your ceramic keycaps to the layout? Super valid if you're too busy to answer and I know it's a specific question.

    • @liyuki2553
      @liyuki2553 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm getting these for the moonlander. Did you ever get them for your ergodox? How did they turn out?
      Judging by their product page, I need to buy two keyboard sets to cover most of the keys for the moonlander (keeping in mind the keys are sculpted) which will leave me two piano keys and the triangle launch keys short.
      I'm most concerned with putting the keys on a north facing pcb however. Was the ergo north facing too? Did you experience any north facing interference?

      @@liyuki2553 I never ended up getting them, unfortunately

  • @jimmyt9283
    @jimmyt9283 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Welcome back, Scott. Do the key caps make the force necessary to push the key down feel any heavier?

    • @Keybored
      @Keybored  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great to be back! it does definitely add to the downward force. So you might want to consider that for the weight of the switches as well. For the standard keys, my 62g long springs feel more like 60g at most

    I wish there was a "cheat code" for clacky sounds.

      Gummy o-ring mounted keebs like unikorn, portal, sequence, bakeneko, ciel, block, etc. Partnered with cf plate or alu if you want a little bit softer typing feel. When it comes to switches azure drags for tactiles, cherry mx blacks hyperglide/vintage, or alpacas

    any keyboard can also be thocky if you use the right air-medium. instead of a nitrogen rich atmosphere, try sulfur hexaflouride ;P
    or clickyish if you try helium.
