I have a 06 locked it up about two summers ago. Gonna tear into it this winter. It’s the fastest bike I’ve owned. Gonna rebuild it up and bullet proof it
I really liked my 09 rmz. I did high comp piston and some cams with a full pipe. Did everything I wanted... my 06 Honda was good to with less work and More easy to start.
Wait, did he say the older bikes were “so much heavier”? Lol, the 2005-08 were around 218 dry and 238 wet. This was filmed in 2019, the 19 was 247 lbs. last I checked 247 > 238 🤔. The extra wt sucks, but most of it comes from the electric start, battery, fuel injection, dual pipes (what a waste of wt!!!) and the rest of it, who knows (probably some of it due to the ecu and handle bar switch to change engine modes). But it cracks me up when someone says something like that and completely ignores that the Japanese bikes have gotten so heavy, which is why people like myself are keeping their old bikes or like my brother, moving on to the 3 letter word. Glad Honda went lighter in 2020, but still isn’t enough
older 450 are wrongly accused of being heavy. 2006-2008 is 238 wet and 2024 ktm 450 is about 226 without fuel +7l 11,5 pounds so the same wet weight. by changing stock muffler on honda you can save 2 pounds
@@smokemboe1876 how the gearing is set up, how they come stock with no spark arrestor, the suspension is tuned for hitting jumps and whoops so it's stiffer then a offroad bikes would be, etc. It's not a very great off road bike unless you spend money to make it one. Otherwise just by a crf450x.
Should total rebuild at about 200 hours? Otherwise engine could seize up, cracked block etc? Don't need to do the top end before that, just rebuild the top and bottom end at the same time? Does it make sense at that point (200 hours) to go ahead and bore it out and increase compression for more power? (ok, that part is not cereal)
First of all it's a 4 stroke so that right there takes you out of the "Greates Honda dirt bike of all time" that coveted title would have to go to the 1987 CR250 and the 500
Actually Yamaha YZ/WR450F is. More power and at the same time more reliable bulletproof valve train. Don't forget to mention Honda's top end valeguide and valve seat problems.
What i dont get is, how can the Yamaha yz426f from 2002 have 1 more horsepower to the rear wheel then the 2006 Honda crf450r? I work with dynos and different bikes all day long and a stock new Honda crf450r 2006 makes 47,4hp to the rear wheel. Stock new Yamaha yz426f makes 48,4hp to the rear wheel. Is it because of the valve difference? Yamaha 426 has 5 valves. Honda 450 has 4 valves.
Ya, go line them up and see what wins. Also depends on how much is under the curve. These typically were around 56hp (crank) which is similar what today’s bikes are. Maybe you need at ask why the Yamaha has as much hp as a new Yamaha?
I have a 02 426 do you think I'd be crazy for getting rid of it for a 2006 crf 450??? My yamaha has hot cams and some suspension work done... Honda has hot cams and some suspension work done...

Exactly!!! Same goes with the trx250r 4wheelers. 2 strokes are a totally different animal. Takes a lot of finesse and rider ability to ride a 2stroke to its fullest potential. And a 1985 cr500 will kill you!!! Lol
Still running my 06 450r for Moto and my 06 250x for trails with my son. Great bikes. Upgrading both would be 20k.

how long do HotRods bottom ends/bearings last?
similar to OEM

Depending on conditions. The crf is a good bike and probably has more aftermarket support. More expensive to maintain
Does the 06 have the bad crank shaft bearing that went bad and locked up the engine . The replacement has a new part number .
