  • In this video we take a ride on Perth's new Airport Line from Perth Station to the terminus of the line at High Wycombe on a Transperth B Series EMU. The new Airport Line opened on the 9th October 2022 and is Perth's first new railway line since the Mandurah Line opened in 2007. It is the first major rail extension completed under Perth's ambitious Metronet scheme to drastically expand the Perth railway network. Built at a cost of $1.86 billion the 8.5km line branches off the Midland Line at Bayswater station and largely consists of underground twin bored tunnels serving three new stations at Redcliffe, Airport Central, and High Wycombe.
In normal operation Airport Line services operate between High Wycombe and Claremont via Perth station, with trains operating every 12 minutes during peak hours, every 15 minutes during the day, and every 30 minutes during the evening. Within the twin bored tunnels trains reach their top speed of 130km/h, with a journey time of 22 minutes from Perth to High Wycombe.

My partner & I used to to get and from the airport on our Melbourne trip was great coming back after 8PM and having a train every 15 minutes was quite well utilised too, the speed truly is unique for an Australian underground system definitely an impressive engineering not just for WA but the whole country glad our trains aren’t driverless

I live in High Wycombe - that is the original High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, England. I have visited Perth many times now and it is my favourite city, indeed WA is Australia's best kept secret!

I was so sad to miss this. I literally had left Western Australia four days prior after spending a month there. I'm not missing the opening of the Ellenbrook Line.

Both my partner and I noticed and said the same at the same time. New stations. Disabled, elderly and child unfriendly with very very very few seats at platform level. So they are expecting people to stand. Even after carrying heavy luggage. Also great for people carrying luggage. Can see that some 35 year old designer thought this right through.

Well, the trains are free at the moment I should take a ride myself.

Surprised Perth still uses 3-car sets. Isn't Perth's population similar to Brisbane's? Don't think I've seen a 3-car set in Brisbane for years now.
