I remember, the alignment to Thornlie was originally intended for Mandurah railway line by Richard Court government. But during Geoff Gellop premiership the plan was altered so the Mandurah line would branched off right in Perth
Although in the present plans, on which construction has already begun, the Thornlie line will be extended to link up to Cockburn Central. Part of the process of doing that will be to realign the existing freight lines beside it; moving them across to make room for the suburban line's tracks
0:06 Perth Central 1:26 Mclver 2:52 Claisebrook connection for Midland Line 5:13 Perth Stadium Armadale special event only 6:15 Burswood 6:26 Perth C train passing by (C pattern is all stations to Cannington than express to Oats Street Than Claisebrook then all stops to Perth Central) 8:13 Victoria Park 9:22 Lathlain old site 9:46 Perth T (All stations to Perth except Perth Stadium) 9:59 Carlisle 11:26 Oats Street 13:13 Welshpool 15:08 Perth T service 15:24 Queens Park 18:55 Beckenham Armadale Services only 21:50 Thornlie Freight services connection with the midland line at Woodbridge (right) towards Adelaide south bound towards North Fremantle
The letters refer to the 'stopping pattern' of the train i.e. which stations the train stops at. Both trains use a large portion of the Armadale line, with the T train splitting off from that line for only the last few clicks if it's run. A T pattern stops at virtually every station on the line on its way to Thornlie, whereas a C train to Armadale runs express through most of the stations the T train stops at.
Whats with the additional tracks at vic park at the city end? also i assume the large areas of smooth spaces at perth stadium are for more tracks in the future?
The tracks at Vic Park are for additional railcar storage for event days. You are correct about the large areas of ground at Stadium station being for future expansion.
@@BennettBrookRailway That would be correct , the "flicker frame rate" does some funny things like that to various videos & films as the shutter speed or flicker rate coincides with the sleeper spacing's etc.
Another great video from you , I love this sort of thing as it gives us a greater appreciation of how things look from up front & from your perspective as well ; I've often wondered as to how the Thornlie line looked from a "driver's view" & it was great to see how it does look ; awesome stuff , Thanks again.
@@BennettBrookRailway a couple of services per day come in on the "other" platform to check points/transponder operation and remove surface rust from the rails.
It would be fun id assume. Rio Tinto is freight and a lot of people only get to be home 2 days after about 14 days of work most of the time. From what I've heard. Passenger rail is good for the time off. Home every night and you have like 2 days off
Is it just me?Because at Mclver station I saw a train bound for Midland it was of the platform maybe it had a failure maybe? Bennet Brook Raliway please reply thanks.
The train at 43:00 is waiting at a signal. I believe its waiting for the filming train to pass so that it can crossover the Midland and Armadale mains to enter Claisebrook depot yard.
@@BennettBrookRailway I agree. If you look where the waiting train is, there is a rail crossover just ahead of him and then follow it along more, there are a series of crossovers. Fairly sure the destination "label" of the waiting train doesnt say Midland, either.

I remembered a time when there was a single rail line rail bridge just to the south of current bridge over the swan river
@@BennettBrookRailway could you do perth to Bunbury on the australind please. Only if you can.

I’m not 100% sure if you will respond but Can you explain all the letters on the train, like Perth T, Perth C ect ect

17:09 Cannington :)
I would not have believed those times, but its all there. What a transformation from those slow. noisy, smelly diesel railcars 40 years ago.
I remember the river crossing was SINGLE track 35meters to the south of current crossing
Thornlie didn’t even have a line when I lived there in the mid 80’s.
Yes it was build in 2005 for the Mandurah Line but they scraped those plans and then it just became a random spur to make use of the tunnel.
Amazing video, but R.I.P Welshpool station

My dad takes this line every Monday to Saturday
Love this stuff, anyone else think that the rails at 4:21 going over the bridge had a strange effect? or is it just on my playback, cheers
Alan Dawson I think it's related to the frame rate. I too noticed it during editing.
I just think it looks interesting

Awesome video dude! Should do more Armadale line videos
Taj Tango Next video will probably be an Armadale C pattern.
Bennett Brook Railway nice!
Bennett Brook Railway t for Thornlie pattern
Please do the Armadale line (Perth to Armadale and return)
That one shouldn't be too far away.
4:17 to 4:36
Maybe the track is taking the train and the train is not moving
Nice!!!
Miss the Armadale line lowkey
Bro at 4:28 I have been on the pedestrian part of the bridge when a train went over
😔sadly these are not gonna be operating after the C series come into service
The A series are going to be kept in service until 2030 now.
Why did it terminate at the rarely used platform on Thornlie?
STW TranVids Good question. No idea why. I asked the driver and he wasn't sure either!
@@BennettBrookRailway a couple of services per day come in on the "other" platform to check points/transponder operation and remove surface rust from the rails.
Haha I was thinking the exact same thing. Been to Thornlie station all my life and not once have I ever seen or been on the opposite platform
@@garyfrancis3305 Thanks for answering the question I’ve been wondering all my life haha
Be interested to see if who ever does these videos can do a video that's Goes from Claisebrook depot going non Stop to Fremantle Station
Is it a fun job? I’m thinking of becoming a train driver in the Pilbara for Rio Tinto when I’m older and it pays very well
I'm not sure. I just post the videos, I don't film them.

👌👍🧒train it is good
There's a fly at 39:00.
It didn't last long once the railcar sped up!
true🤣
I think the new Vic Park is better than the old one plus it’s my station
Its definitely much nicer then the old one.
Oh boy! Thank God a batch of new trainsets is underway. They really must get rid of the A-series! OLD AND SLOW!!!
No! They are so classic, I love them! Anyway, they won't be gone till 2029.
I’ve always loved the A-Class train sets same thing with the B-Class trains OLDISH BUT DEFINITELY NOT SLOW
