Recent hobby of mine is to look up railways across the globe, I’m a frequent Amtrak user and wanted to see how other nations consistently outclass the USA. Excellent content 😊
Welcome aboard! Australia is not dissimilar to the USA in that the interstate rail network is very much driven by freight. Australians also love their cars like Americans so it’s a mixed bag with trains here. 🤔
Hello, Adam. I'm Tomeaki Kyooka from Japan. "The Prospector" is the nice trains of the TransWA. I've watched this one of The Prospector and The Australind too. Thank you for the information. And your You-Tube is very nice for the travelers. I sometimes take the trains when I travel in foreign countries. I like travelling by the trains. I'm looking forward to watch your next You-Tube. Have the nice trips all the time! Cheers!!
Hello Tomeaki. Thank you for the kind comments - so glad you liked the videos! :) Travelling by train is for the most part a lovely and relaxing way to get around. Take care.
I never knew about the Meckering quake. Some great photos on line of the fault line and rail damage. I'm from New Zealand and we experience them regularly. Nice piece of info Adam thanks for that.
thank you Adam I appreciate your videos very much and you have given me an appreciation of long distance train travel in Aus. i would like to do this trip in the near future. and am saving towards this goal.
The difference in gauge width throughout Australia is a joke. You can travel the entire European continent because of how they organise their tracks. However in Australia you have to change all over the place. Great video mate.
Thank you! Yes, the break of gauge (as it used to be called) between states is quite an incredible story and one which has left us with an unfortunate legacy. 🤔
Good to see this and realize I could get the train to Adelaide, then coach to Kalgoorlie and back onto the train to Perth. It is wonderful to know that there is a reasonably priced way to get to Perth by rail for people like me who cannot afford the $oooo on the Indian pacific.
Hi Adam, this is my third video I watch for your collection and it is wonderful! I thoroughly enjoy the calm pace you narrate each portion, great editing and details. Love it . Thank you for sharing it.
Hello Adam, This is an excellent presentation, as usual. I like the little extras you give us, eg the lady being told off by the guard for running over to the bakery.
My friend was doing the Crew Announcements from Merredin to Kalgoorlie ! When I did this trip I didn't use the back seat entertainment... just looked out the window !
Thanks for your lovely and very informative video of the Prospector. My friend and I are travelling on it in a couple of weeks to Kalgoorlie and are very exited.
didnt know prospector exists, despite being an avid australia aficionado. it is the indian pacific cut short into half. with usual australian travel sophistication and your detailed commentary that is a delight.
Quite a lot of work happening here in Perth in 2023! Two new lines expected to near completion, first new trains (C Series) are currently in testing, and many new stations and station upgrades! Hopefully next time you’ll be able to experience all our new services
Hello Adam. Thankyou for your video. Please do not think my comment is overly negative, but I could not watch consistently beyond the introduction because of the music. The natural sounds of the train journey would be much more enjoyable. I was excited to watch another Prospector video to get a new perspective after watching Rory Ding's video on the same journey. His video was also shot about a year ago. Incidentally, his video has no music and has 3 times as many views. I think these two things are related. Loud, 'Generic TH-cam' music detracts greatly from your informative commentary. The content in your video is inherently interesting and the music just makes it hard to hear and jangles the nerves. It was nice to see the screens working correctly!
Thanks for your feedback. Music is very subjective and I receive as many comments praising the music as disparaging it. However, I think the issue with music in some of my videos is that the music was too loud - it needed to be more subtle. This has improved in my more recent videos. The issue with using raw audio is that it is often unpleasant (babies screaming etc). In terms of my videos Vs Rory … my analysis is that the highest views generally comes down to who published the video first. My video about the Great Southern for example, which has background music, has more views than his. Regardless, I appreciate the feedback and will bear it in mind.
Thank you for listening to my feedback Adam. Yes, perhaps if the music were lower in the mix it would help, especially while you were talking. I see what you are saying about unusable location audio. I did not realize that the race to publish extended to train videos! I suppose the viewership eventually feeds into itself, since people who watch one series of train videos will probably be recommended another series eventually by the algorithm. I will check out your more recent videos. Thanks again.
@@tomh1610 It definitely helps if your video is the only one of its type about a particular train etc, gives you a big advantage with the algorithm. If you’d like to see a video with more raw audio and less music, check out my video about the Kuranda Scenic Railway. The train sounds were easy to use in that video. 😊
Thanks for the good video. I think given the limited offerings in the buffet car, it will make sense for Merredin restaurants and bakeries to bring their goods to the platform for sale to the passengers during the train's brief stop at the station.
When Rory travelled on the Prospector, some features on the TV screen weren't working.Good to see that TransWA has rectified them.It is also good to see the Prospector from a different POV.That woman at Merredin really deserved to be left behind for not abiding by the emphasised warning by the crew.
Thank you - really appreciate that. I know that a few people had to ask the crew to reset their TV screens during the journey but most of them seemed to work (mine froze towards the end but as I was happy just watching the scenery, I decided not to trouble the staff). Yeah - there's always at least one person who decides to break the rules! Thanks for watching.
The last I had travelled on an Australian train was back in 2009 when I was very young on then CountryLinks from Mel-Syd. I remember that day very vividly when I greeted the staff as “Gday mate” and she was so impressed that she gave me a small brownie. I have never forgotten that day. So rewatching Australian trains virtually here has really helped me reminisce those good ol’ days😀
I just saw this.....thank you. It's definitely another way of breaking up flight times between Perth and the eastern seaboard. I presume there is only one class of travel ? What rows would you recommend for people who need more leg room for disability reasons ?
Yes, there’s only one class of travel. If you advise them of your disability when booking, they should be able to book you appropriate seats. I’m not sure which seats have the most legroom. Hope you enjoy the trip!
"Friendly staff"? The announcements sounded quite brusk. Maybe that's WA for you. Interesting to see the passenger coach behind the 2 engines in the freight train. It shows the staff have to be accommodated somewhere when there is nowhere to change them.
The Perth-based guard was a bit brusk at times but all the other staff (who managed the buffet etc) plus the Kalgoorlie-based crew were all super friendly.
His "business" was a way of asserting he was in charge and to be listened to. The reason this service now carries two transit guards is for a reason .. there can be behaviour problems from "certain" groups responsible for such behaviour. This Irish bloke is great to have on any trip.
