Rainbow Farmers Market Stand Challenge

- Our farmers market stand has had all the colours of the rainbow for the last few weeks, but for the first time this week, we are going to merchandise the veggies in the order of a rainbow, in an attempt to make a display so hot, it melts butter. The plan is to order the veggies thusly purple eggplants, green cucumber and zucchini, yellow patty pans, orange carrots, and red tomatoes. Will anyone notice this extraordinary feat, or will it simply be seen as beautiful with the rainbow going unnoticed? You have to watch the video to find that out, but Serina and Ian make it a competition to see who can be right about it, and when you have been married for as long as we have, being unequivocally right is the greatest prize of them all. We also do some (typical) late night harvesting of the eggplants, cukes, beets, and carrots, and if you are good, we might even through in a flower arranging section, where Serina makes a flower bouquet for the market. Perhaps something involving amaranth, zinnias, cosmos, statice, and celosia.

My two cents (Ignore if this does not make sense). As someone who loves buying produce from local farmers, I often miss seeing the sign/stand early enough to stop the car in time. Once I realize there was a stand, I am already at a distance and do not want to take a U turn. If possible, please put the sign on either side, far out enough that it catches people’s eye early enough to stop in time at the stand without having to make an abrupt stop
I was going to say this!! Put some signs a little father away because I will never turn around. You need to put it far enough away that a potential customer has time to make up their mind and decide to stop

Also, in the live you mentioned that some people checked the roadside stand already. A sign that informs people that there will be flowers and veggies for sale soon will make them stop the next time too.

I've been kind of blown away by your bouquets this year. Your planning and investments in varieties and sequential plantings is really paying off, at least in aesthetic terms. Really, really impressed with the selection you have to build your bouquets.

Alright, next farmers market both the veggies and the flower bouquets need to be a continuous rainbow! (all red flower bouquet with the tomatoes, all purple flowers with the eggplant, etc.) LOL

Put up a sign that says-"Eat the Rainbow". This is a big push in the US for the children to eat more healthy.
When i was a kid my mum snuck in grated carrot in our tuna sandwiches which turned out delicious with green onions and pepper. I soon found it normal to have at least one veggie for main meals. If parents made veggies a normal appetizing part of a meal, kids would eat more. I dont know how matching a rainbow would work long term especially with cauliflower lol.
I’ve gone to the same Naturopathic doctor for 36 years- her mantra is always, “Eat the 🌈 rainbow!” 😉

The rainbow look with flowers will totally sell better then vegetables!!! I promise. You should do some small like 5 dollar bouquets of all yellow, pink, red, white, purple, yellow or whatever. Then people can just grab 2-4(or more)of them in the colors they love most to make a big bouquet!
People love rainbow colored stuff! And photos online of flowers sorted by color always get so so many likes and views. I think it would really draw people in. The 5 dollar bouquets would be soo easy to make too and draw people in by all the color. Then also have some 20 dollar ones as well. But having a free rows of rainbow colored ones would add up! I’m telling you! I wish I could post a photo of what I mean exactly. Dang TH-cam!
This is our first year selling $20 bouquets - we used to do $10 ones. And we are selling even more this year, and no one is complaining about the price. Flowers take too much work to handle for it to make sense to have a $5 item, at least for our market. We have been sending down $10 bunches of flowers though, not bouquets, just all the same flower, and those make sense for the labour vs price. People at our market don't want to design their own, they want it already done, so I think that is why the $20 ones are doing so well

Not saying 20 is too much, I just thought displaying bunches of bouquets(even 20 dollar ones since they sell the best) assorted by colors on the table would sell well and better then the vegetables being set up like a rainbow! People would be very drawn in by flowers sorted like a rainbow, I know I would be anyways! Lol but I could totally be wrong too! Just food for thought! Yes!! I personally only like bouquets of one colour and I’m a cheapo so the $5 idea would grab me in for sure. It will be hard to convince Serena but I think you’re right here

Consider finding a few great recipes for eggplant, be sure customers can see the recipes next to the eggplants, perhaps this will entice them to try them.

Try a rainbow background in the back of your market space. Then the rainbow effect may be spotlighted better.
Yeah the display was pleasing to the eye because it replicated the harmonious color order already existing in the natural world.

If everything you harvested are always all sold, that would be every farmers dream.
Sometimes a beautiful design can work against you. Many people won't destroy it to make a purchase so that the next person can series it as well.
A suggestion for the outside of your roadside stand. Cover the outside with red cedar shingles with white trim around the windows and doors. Would be a real eye catcher and goes well with red roof farm. Love you bouquets

Im commenting before the video has ended. However, have you considered giving an Asian free with the purchase of the European? This way, the customer might feel $5 is worth it for a chance to try the other.
I always try to encourage people to buy the Asian ones instead, they frequently do, but eggplant just isn't exciting for most people here.
@@YouCantEatTheGrass Those Asian eggplants are AMAZING in a stir fry with some garlic-ginger sauce. I didn’t have space for eggplants in our new raised beds this year, but I’m definitely making room for a ton of the Asian eggplants next year. They’re too good to pass up in a stir fry with some deep fried tofu.

I live on a state highway. Pretty busy. I have the farm sign out and just spent $200 on a folding letter sign to advertise prices. The plan is to build a 10x10, or smaller building for my flowers and some other cool stuff. It just takes time for people to notice. It's great that you guys will have one. 😍

You guys are swell. I remember you starting your flowers and thinking they would be a key part of your offerings and I see that is the case!! Congratulations. As for the Asian style eggplants, what would it look like if you shared a sample of them cooked in a dish (grocery store market style) ? This might encourage your customers to consider them when they come to buy from you.... cheers to you and all the hard work you do!!!!!

I'm growing the Asian eggplants this year and love them. They are never bitter but you need more of them to make a meal.

You're eggplants looks very healthy. How i eat my asian eggplants is to grill them in the oven for 450F for approx. 25-35 or until it's soft and pilled them then to eat it as salad while hot add ginger, sliced tomatoes and balsamic vinegar as salad. Or after grilling and pilled add eggs and salt pepper to taste and make an omelet off it :D
I have an idea that I know that will work!! Put a pretty hippy dress with spaghetti straps and put ur hair down and some cute sandles play some music up beat instrumental kind!! If you wanted make up some bead bracelets and some necklaces there very easy to make just search utube there u will find how to videos! Pop popcorn the smell will bring them! Our farmers market is always jumping lol is that still a good describing word to say😆.Woman,...!! :: dress cute not a poke man shirt do yourself up for ur sales!!

Looking at it from where I am, the way that the flowers are displayed is not showing their real Beauty. I just keep thinking that if you could somehow display them individually like maybe with some type of stand. I can't see their individual Beauty. They may sell like crazy then. Question. Isn't there a local grocery you can wholesale those bouquets to? We have a local AIG that always sells left-over merch from the local farmers markets. Just an idea since you guys are an inspiration. I'd like to buy a small plot and grow for farmers markets when I retire so I've been researching this.
Your stand was beautiful. Full of clean, healthy vegetables and flowers. Strange if that is not enough to sell. Wish I could buy a bouquet of flower from you because in my country one as big as them you are selling would cost over 100$ and therefore only bought for special occations by most people.

add a rainbow to your red roof farm banner, maybe washi tape in case you want to take it off later...congrats on being triple right! also I suggest take a pic of your mural wall in the outbuilding, then make a poster of it at a print shop to put in the outbuilding (in your spare time)

The stand was looking amassing, but I think that people recognize rainbow for its shape of color pallet. You were missing a shape of the rainbow. The green tops on carrots and beats getting on the way of a clean separation between colors of the rainbow 🌈 you can also build it up your design, instead of lying them flat on the table.Don’t give up on it.
