That is a good idea. I was going to suggest those heavy plastic strips in the doorway like in warehouses to keep the cool air in. Not very pretty, tho. An all glass storm door maybe?
The bouquets are just absolutely beautiful. Serena has come so far in her artistic skill and color and texture combos since the beginning of their flower farm journey. How can you not love Ian’s enthusiasm and positivity? He always seems to make the best of a situation (like the heatwave). Congrats you two for making the change to your business plan and concentrating on the flowers this year. It seems to be paying off. ♥️🌸💐🌷🌹🌹🌻🌼
you should get one of those 'pvc strip door' things on the roadside stand door. It would keep the cool in and the hot air out and maybe save some money on electricity aswell. Costomers would still be able to see inside through it.
Yess! This! I wanted to suggest the same. Also they could maybe put a door canopy above the door, so the sun doesn't get a chance to heat up the interior of the roadside stand.
yes Dezedaantje, those big, thicker long transparent flaps. You can cut them to size very easy. And/or put a tent over the stand so the sun doesn't hit any of the sides.
It’s amazing how a simple barrier like the pvc strips ssooo helps. I had same experience with my basement room when door broke. I was trying to conserve heat and adding a reg curtain really helped.
they are not that easy to get through especially with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers in your hands but as a door (like a screen) the pvc would keep the cool and the sight line. and a cute canopy with a red roof would tie in nicely.
Serena, I love your beautiful flowers. They are absolutely beautiful! You seem to have more varieties. Your bouquets are becoming more and more beautiful. I like how you are adding more variety in each bouquet. Great job! Thank you for posting! Eileen 🍁🇨🇦💕😊
Suggestion for the flower stand. Find someone who has a weeping willow tree. Take cuttings (they root very quickly) and plant one on the west side. You could put two on the west side, creating a cooling area given most of our winds come from the west.. Willows like this grow remarkably fast. Alternative is bushes that tolerate dry, hot temperature. Just a bit of shade cuts the heat by 5°C.
Hey guys, I never thought of it, but if sometimes you don't quite sell all with the market and feel like donating in your town - what about a local retirement home? I'm sure you bring some of the best looking ones home for the stand and I think you've mentioned donating some to the food bank, which is so sweet too. :)
My new favourite TH-cam channel! Can’t wait to grow flowers next season (on a much smaller scale). You guys are so inspiring and your videos are a joy to watch. 💕
If I lived in your area I would go every week and buy a bouquet! Your bouquets are so beautiful and you have the grandma-garden (not the average flowers you normally see in grocery stores) type flowers ! Thank you for sharing!!
The red roof on your tent is reflective of your name, but it also puts a red cast on your flowers making the true colors hard to see. (If you ever go into a paint store and try to see true color under fluorescents you'll understand the importance.) Is there any way you can get a color neutral tent top? Especially in the heat the red cast from your tent roof, not only masks the true flower colors but must make it seem even hotter underneath it to passerby. Just a thought...
A red awning on the stand would be a great idea for keeping the sun out and would look so cute with the door! I haven't read through all the comments and don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but some grocery stores have these strips of heavy clear vinyl hanging in doorways to the back storage areas so that the cooler air stays in the storage area, but you can still see through and walk through them. Something like that might help keep in some cooler air. And when the weather is more temperate, you can easily clip them to one side so that they're out of the way. Those bouquets were gorgeous this week - the one with mostly white daisy type flowers and some yellow was my favorite, as was the dramatic dark one. Wish I lived closer!
Oh wow those lilies were phenomenal! The size of them is amazing! All of the bouquets were gorgeous! What a dream to be working with such beautiful specimens every week!! And I just want to say I am fully jealous of your cherry tree! What an abundance! I would need a tree for myself definitely. Another great video thanks to you both! 🙂
I am in Central Florida, 9b. I find your videos inspiring to help me incorporate more flowers into my landscape. I laughed at your smile in front of the AC.
Your flowers are just gorgeous! Your arrangements are just beautiful too!! I've learned so much from you this year, my Johnnies seed order is going to e crazy high because of everything I want to grow now.
A couple of suggestions I might add. Have you considered a lower tier level on your stand as it would space out the flowers more. Easier on the eye. Also I would suggest a black covering cloth not the brown one as it will make your colours pop more as the cloth and brown paper kinda makes things look a bit flat. Also have you considered a small cooler ice pack in each of the buckets to keep your water cold.
Oh my gosh, Ian is hilarious..." Here's the instructions, throw them away!!" I've heard that before:) what can you NOT put in your cooler, basil, zinnias, etc??
Still doing great despite the heat! Excellent! Gorgeous bouquets as usual - which doesn't lessen the impact! I see in the comments the idea to put an awning over the shed entrance - that's a fabulous idea. Also, someone suggested a glass storm door. Also a fabulous idea. The combo of the two will provide shade while letting folks see inside, and help the air conditioner not work so hard. 🍒🍒🍒 I'm a cherry-holic too. Can't afford to buy them except once or twice a season. Wish I had the room to plant a cherry tree!
Just to say that I really like the intros you do now. At first I thought it was a one off thing, but I really love Ian's sensational voice overs and I'm glad they are here to stay :)
I have a suggestion for your road side stand, you could do a dried flower arch outside the door ( kind of like an awning but in dried flowers...) that would just create the shadow that you need and that would showcase your amazing dried flowers!
Another thought....does cooler water help keep the bouquets fresh? Maybe a few ice cubes in the buckets at the stand and the market? (I am obviously not a flower specialist. !!)
Stunning flowers as always! So have you considered red tshirts for Ian with the red roof logo in white? Just a thought. Brand that logo on everything. I checked out your website. No logo to be found. 🤷♀️ Congrats for another awesome week!!! 🌸🌷🌸🌷🌸🌷🌸🌷🌸
Serina, your arrangements just keep getting better and better...really good. I saw a suggestion for an awning for the flower stand in the comments. Sounds like a good suggestion.
Ive been watching for years now and I Love you guys! 💗💞 So glad you are doing well at your stand and at the weekly markets! 💗 Why dont you put a storm door w UV on on the roadside stand?
I love you guys, I remember when I first saw Serena making flower bouquets years ago and being horrified she grew such gorgeous plants to throw them together in the oddest colour combinations. Serena you by far do my absolute favourite bouquets now, they even rival floret for me. The form and colour combination are simply gorgeous. Did I also mention you totally inspired me to get growing as well? 🥰
love love love those mauve pink with white bouquets (with the pink lilies). They glow in the light and are so romantic and sweet. Wish I lived closer to you all, then I'd definitely be a regular customer :D
Alberta has had many hot days. Yesterday we walked out of the movie theater and it felt like we were in Vernon. But as hot as you're getting it now, I don't think I could handle camping in that. We haven't been out in your area for a vacation since before Covid.
I love what you're doing! I've been watching you for a couple years and it's been great to see how you've been able to pivot and innovate along the way. I'm curious what kind of things your competitors are doing at the markets. Do you ever think you'll move into the wedding/event territory or just stick with markets? Do you ever sell wholesale buckets (just picked but not cleaned off stems)? Anyway I'm so happy to see your successes and thank you for sharing this journey with us all. :) . Sure hope the heatwave doesn't spark any wildfires like last year! -Megan (Michigan, US)
A faux door or magicians door with an open and closed sign on it. Just a permanent board/wall put up that’s 2 foot (ish) out from the real door. The board blocks the sun and the customers can walk in from either side. Also an air curtain will help hold the cold air in while also keeping flies and bugs out.
Maybe consider putting a glass door on the roadside shop with a big sign that says "Come On In, We're Open" on the glass. And that way you can maintain the appearance of an open door/open shop without losing the air. Maybe glass door as 2nd door so that at night it can be looked up with solid wood/metal door.
Maybe those dried flowers can also be on the ceiling of your small store as a decor. It will definitely fascinate some customers if they see it. You have the brightest dried flowers.
Your lily stems are perfect, I never get so many buds on one stem. Is there a tip you can pass on to me? I love watching your flower combos for inspiration.
I love your videos! Last year you had a section in your videos about how Serena puts together a bouquet. Would you mind showing that again? She is so creative, I love seeing the process of how she comes up with such stunning bouquets!
Pretty good market with it being super hot out. I loved the black Lily $40 bouquet. So beautiful!! I just noticed that in your first few shots of the market that the red tent cover was casting a red hue onto your flowers. Maybe not the same when in person, but maybe another color would make the flowers pop more. Im sure theres some psychological answer to this. But it is the name of your farm so there is that too. Just an observation! Happy summer guys : ) PS jealous of your cherry trees. My bing cherry is dying and I’ve only ever gotten one fruit off it. Haha 😛 😢 oh well cant win them all.
Can you get a double hung door on the front? Similar to how front doors can have a glass door and a solid metal/ wood door behind it? Edit to say - that way people could still see in but the heat loss would go down.

Have you ever considered an awning for the roadside stand? A good sized and colorful canvas awning would look nice and keep some of the sun out.
good idea
I was just coming to also suggest an awning. Good idea to shade the sunshine.
What a great suggestion
That is a good idea. I was going to suggest those heavy plastic strips in the doorway like in warehouses to keep the cool air in. Not very pretty, tho. An all glass storm door maybe?
Great idea .. and if possible a few shade tree.. around it .. may be cherries 😂
i re watch the videos and skip to serina making bouquets the ian selling at the market...never gets old..i enjoy flowers!!

That pink $40 bouquet is absolutely gorgeous!!!! I'd pay $50
Just when I think the flowers cannot look any better.somhow they get more beautiful every week. Amazing.
I love that they always change from week to week

“Sad Canadian Serena”

I am growing flowers this year because of this channel! Just picked my first Dahlia! And managed to get some lilac lisianthus! It's been really fun!
YOU GUYS ARE THE HARDEST WORKING PEOPLE EVER. WISH I LIVED THERE TO BUY FROM YOU AND TO HELP!

Your lily has so many buds, and they are huge! I wish I lived in your area. I would loved to buy those lilies!!!
Awesome y'all. It's so great that your markets are doing so well. God bless y'all. Keep me in your prayers. I have cancer surgery in the morning.
Good luck, we will be thinking about you!

I think about this too! Good point
I have noticed that as well. That the flowers can’t show off as well with the red light from the tent.
Yes, I agree. The red unfortunately skews those flowers so much
100% agree with this
Agreed

Those lilies are insane!!! Hopefully they make creating bouquets easy and are not a hindrance by being so big!
Bouquets are looking gorgeous 😍
Any protection on that door, a screen, bead curtains, a light curtain, awning, fabric awning, will do a lot. Can be decorative if you're inspired !

Your feverfew looks amazing!
I'm here for the cherry updates! lol We get either BC or WA cherries here in ON and I can only imagine being able to pick fresh from your own tree.
I appreciated the consistent updates on the cherries! 😂
Love you guys! ❤
BEST SERIES on TH-cam! Congrats on another successful market! The flowers look gorgeous BUT...most importantly...those CHERRIES 🍒 look delicious!

The nightly flower-picking was enjoyable to watch, nice montage too!
Hope you have a compost pile! You have a lot of green material!
Just watched you make the star wrapper for the larger bouquets. Hire a teenager to pre-make for you.
I have a suggestion for your road side stand, you could do a dried flower arch outside the door ( kind of like an awning but in dried flowers...) that would just create the shadow that you need and that would showcase your amazing dried flowers!

Ian I just have to say that I laugh at your intro every time. Love it!!!!!
I am soooo jello of your cherries!
When do you sleep if sleep at all? So much dedicated work! Everything is very beautiful! And I like your ginger cat😻
Would an awning help the flower stand? Could look cute with your branding on 😊
Flowers are looking devine btw! ❤️
The editing on this is amazing! And I can’t pick a fav bunch either! Brilliant!
Another thought....does cooler water help keep the bouquets fresh? Maybe a few ice cubes in the buckets at the stand and the market? (I am obviously not a flower specialist. !!)
Or stash some buckets with frozen blocks of ice between the flower buckets. ??
do window tint on glass door, it literally makes a HUGE difference. Awesome flowers, awesome farm, awesome sales, awesome kids, awesome couple, awesome cats, awesome cherries!
Those lily bouquets look amazing! Hopefully this heat will bring ample rewards in the form of zinnias and other summer goodies :)
Really loved the 40dollar ones 💐💕

You could try a full glass screen door so that they could see that you were open and have a sign on it that way keep the cool air in.
I love the flowers and I also miss the vegetables. You guys inspired me to grow more flowers. Just got myself a sea holly this year. 😀😀😀
Y'all could move the dried flowers to the sunny spot in the roadside stand during the hottest parts of the year.
good suggestion
We've started doing that, now that we have so many of the fresh to dry styles
Yay, My favorite show posted 😊
Fantastic once Again,

I don't know anything about cut flowers, but you two sure do some good work, and I enjoy your videos!

glass door would let the sun heat up the stand more.

I hope very well and you can sell your remaining bouquets through that outlet.
Maybe those dried flowers can also be on the ceiling of your small store as a decor. It will definitely fascinate some customers if they see it. You have the brightest dried flowers.

Pretty good market with it being super hot out. I loved the black Lily $40 bouquet. So beautiful!! I just noticed that in your first few shots of the market that the red tent cover was casting a red hue onto your flowers. Just an observation! Happy summer guys : ) PS jealous of your cherry trees. My bing cherry is dying and I’ve only ever gotten one fruit off it. Haha 😛 😢 oh well cant win them all.
I recommend a little red awning for over the door to the shop. One that you can roll out everyday. Like on campers. 👍🏻
Love love love the pink bouquets ❤love love love the yellow & white, love love love them al!🥰👍🏻
Love to see the flowers...
Can you get a double hung door on the front? Similar to how front doors can have a glass door and a solid metal/ wood door behind it?
Edit to say - that way people could still see in but the heat loss would go down.
The colors of the Bouquets are amazing! I had sworn off straw flowers.... but you're making me want to grow it now. 😅

Could you install a glass storm door at the farm stand? It would hold in the air conditioning, but still allow people to see in and know it’s open.
It's been going okay so far with the door open, even during the heat.
You could install a glass door with an "open/closed" sign so you can close the door.
