Granted, it always involved using a Vellumental and then using the 1000 Fold Arms, but each boss felt unique. I thought the story was nice and charming, if a bit vanilla, which is fine for a Mario game IMO. You're not playing a Mario game for the story (usually). I found Olivia to be annoying as HELL, and the fact that she doesn't have an attack in battle is just... bleh. You do get Bobby eventually, a Bob-Omb partner, and he does do attacks just like Bombette and Captain Bobbery did. You can't choose them, but he still helps out. It also forwards the game's difficulty because it's entirely beatable without killing anyone yourself. Sticker Star requires grinding on enemies and then discourages fighting those same enemies. It's ass-backwards.
I remember playing sticker star at a very young age, I thought it was good and thought the series was like that... then I played super paper mario not too long after that and then I realized just how wrong I was.
Conga Alien congrats on getting towards the good ol games. Glad to see someone look into the older ones and open their eyes to just how lesser creations the two newer ones became
yeah, I don't regret it, super paper is one of my favorite games ever, I played the first paper mario, thought it was pretty fun (then it got stolen along with my wii) I have yet to touch the thousand year door although I imagine it won't be able to touch my love of super paper mario
Conga Alien wouldn’t be too sure, personally thousand year seemed to me at least to beat my love of the original and just barely snag its way past super paper Mario. I’d at least recommend giving it a try, but I’m just sad how bad it became with the other two... then other M added it with the Metroid franchise crushed so many hopes too
Conga Alien I think the reason you enjoy Super Paper Mario over the original (and TTYD when you play it) is that you prefer platforming over RPGs. And that's, perfectly fine (I love Super Paper Mario myself), but in the future I do want Paper Mario games to go back to how the first 2 games were. Anyways, glad that you got a chance to play the older games and realize what Sticker Star did to the series...
@Yoshi Miner I would still be fine even if the next Paper Mario game still isn't a turn-based RPG like the firts two were. I'd just like the battle system to be fun and interesting. I may think Color Splash was a great step back in the right direction for the series as far as the writing and atmosphere was concerned, but the gameplay itself still wasn't doing it for me. Hell, I'd be fine with another Action-RPG platformer like SPM if the writing was anything like Color Splash had.
10: Yeah. Color Splash was actually a good game, but Sticker Star was just boring and lifeless. 9: One of the most unoriginal Mario games ever. It's a fine game, but definitely my least favorite New Super Mario Bros game. 8: I've had a lot of fun with friends with this game, but it's certainly inferior to previous games. Bowser Party is fun. 7: The best thing about this game is that it spawned a much, much, much, much better game two and a half years later. 6: Mushbert. I played it once, and never touched it again. 5: The 90s had a lot of awful edutainment games, didn't they? 4: The Koopalings have voice acting in the PC version. They sound nothing like how they should. 3: So, like every other Atari game. 2: Same as Mario is Missing, but with no Koopalings. 1: I find this game overhated. It's awful, but not that awful.
@@silkymilkymememonkey I can respect that. I personally am a little confused as to why Mario Odyssey has sold more copies on the Switch than Breath of the Wild. I could've sworn Breath of the Wild was most successful, but whatever.
I have fond memories of Mario Party 9, but playing the N64 Mario Party games afterward made me realize how...for lack of a better description, soulless MP9 was.
200 Countdowns? Congrats! Also, I think an interesting topic might be "Top 5/10 Character Creation Systems". Would love to know your thoughts on that subject.
Dude, everyone - even SEGA- admits and openly jokes about how Sonic 06 was bad. You're not going to be hated for something that everyone, even someone who actually started with Sonic 06, knows. What would get you hated is saying that some random Mario game sucks like Mario Odyssey and then you claim that Sonic 06 was better, when that clearly isn't the case. Except for the music. But I'll willingly admit that I've always loved Sonic music over Mario music.
I enjoyed Mario party 9, my sister enjoyed Mario party 9. Its not that bad, but when you've done the mini games and maps, there's not much to look forward to
Now that I think about it, had a Sticker Star-like spinoff been made for any other franchise or had been its own separate game, that would have been held in a much higher regard.
Jack Crack I actually want them to make a new Action Adventure franchise modeled after Color Splash. (Minus the Thing Weaknesses and lack of leveling up.)
@Brendan35shoot t That’s the worst New Super Mario Bros. games, and considering that there aren’t that many godawful Mario games, they had to fill the spot with _something._
NSMB2 is my favorite NSMB game, yes its unoriginal and derivative, but all NSMB games are like that. Don’t act like NSMB Ds was more original than the 3ds game.
@Manuel Alberto Romero I think Fire Emblem and Persona also fit that description. Nobody outside the Smash community gave two shits about Fire Emblem before Awakening happened (and even then, very few of those guys even really care what game the characters are from to begin with) and Persona, while it had a decent following thanks to P3 and P4, didn't become a major franchise name until P5 took JRPG fans by storm.
I love the Wii U. Sue me. Mario Party 9 is my favorite of the series because of how re-playable a lot of the mini-games are and I don't mind the car mechanic. I also enjoyed Mario Party 10. Am I at a life sentence now?
DJGamingSmash I actually liked the fact that all the characters traveled together. With the traditional style, I felt it dragged on for too long. I also thought the minigames were fun in 9. Also, magikoopa was playable, and I love magikoopa. This is one of my favorite mario parties, alongside the first 4.
You're not alone. For as much crap as 9 and 10 get, I love them. 9 shook up the Mario Party formula, and it was surprisingly fun. Plus, I enjoyed the minigames, and I am one of those weirdos who likes the NSMB aesthetic. 10 felt like a solid improvement over 9; the pacing is faster, minigames are more frequent, and the visuals are great. I also loved the return of Toadette and Donkey Kong as playable characters. The bosses were also better.
I think NSMB 2 shouldn't really be here. Was it easy? Shure, but it's not like a ton of lives made a difference as you can very well beat most modern Mario games without dying much. The challenge mode on the other hand can be extremely brutal. If you wanted to make a statement against blandness you should have taken Super Mario Run instead.
I'm in the minority. Mario is Missing is one of my favorite mario games. But that might be because I've been a trivia fiend since I was five, and this thing is basically GUESS UNTIL YOU LEARN A NIFTY FACT on loop.
You´re gonna need a Top 10, at least: Bowser, Dark Matter, Ganon, Majora, Count Bleck, Dark Queen, Fawful, probably Andross, Ridley, Dark Samus, Giygas, Hades... The list of great Nintendo villains goes on and on.
Cthulu1985 And it would depend on what you mean by "great" villains. Do you mean great as in the evil they've done, their tenacity etc. Or do you mean great as in their character depth, and motive. So I feel that the 1 spot would be a 3 way winner. My personal top 3 villains would be: Bowser, due to his tenacity and iconic longevity. Count Bleck (Blumiere) due to his depth as a character, and his motives and character development we see. And if we're going based on actual evil, malevolence and genius plans and success, then Fawful would probably take that spot.
Good point. I would take these criteria for consideration: might and power (Ganon, Majora, Giygas, Dark Samus), iconic value and archnemesis status (Ganon, Bowser, Ridley), creepiness and Eldritch factor (Giygas, Marx, Dark Queen, Dark Matter, Majora), character (Ghirahim, Count Bleck, Fawful, Hades, Ghetsis or N), Resilience (Ganon, Bowser, Ridley) and overall impact on the mythology (Ganon, Demise, Bowser, Ridley, Mother Brain, Giygas, etc.).
Timmity3 did you ever play the original paper Mario’s? If you didn’t then enjoy having your enjoyment of color splash completely crumble into flaking paint
The #6 Runaway Guys Fan Just because Triple Deluxe and Robobot are taking the formula of Return to Dreamland doesn't make them bad (in fact Robobot is probably the best game in the series). People claim that Call of Duty MW2 is one of the best games of all time and that's just and exact retread of the first MW.
The #6 Runaway Guys Fan Yeah and that TV show was actually pretty good, if you think of other game-tv/movie screen tie-ins. I mean it’s loyal to the games villain wise and Kirby acts like you’d expect him to. Can’t say the same for Mario or Link...
BurntHam79 Ikr? I held off buying it for a few years because I heard mostly negative things about it. I eventually tried it out a few months back. It's a fun little game to play and easy to complete 100%. I enjoyed it just as much as nsmb. I would play it over again
When you’ve been around for as long as Mario and with as many games, you’ll tend to get some stinkers along the line. It’s just a good thing that most of the time, his games have been hits rather than misses. Hopefully one day, Sonic can join the fray. And if there’s anything good the edutainment Mario games brought, it’s without a doubt Weegee.
I doubt that Sonic will ever join the fray, Sega is pretty incompetent when it comes to their franchises. A real shame too, I'd love to see a new streets of rage (or maybe a kid chameleon sequel)
I actually liked Mario Party Advance! It was like a refreshing breath of fresh air from the regulaur mario party games that for the most part is all the same! I mean at lest it was different and I enjoyed the single player campange!
If this is too much British, then I may suggest not coming to England. If 2 is too many, then a whole country full of us would probably just be overwhelming.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 might have been a great game if it was a parody of the usual Mario games and was more focused on exploration while you drown in coins. While they're at it, they could cut out the life system and throw some new power-ups such as letting you cause earthquakes or shoot out fire like a blowtorch. But then again, Mario might not be the right choice for a game like this so maybe they could make Wario the main character instead...and rename the game "New Wario Land"?... ... I just really want a new Wario Land game. ;_;
10: paper Mario sticker star 9: new super Mario bros 2 8: Mario party 10 7: Mario tennis ultra smash 6: Mario party advance 5: Mario’s early years 4: Mario is missing 3: Mario bros (Atari 2600) 2: Mario’s time machine 1: hotel Mario
Fun fact: On my school's laptops, when I search you up, this is the only list video/"modern" video that comes up that I can watch. The rest are your old music videos.
I'm not sure why everyone hates Mario Party 9 and 10 so much, especially more than games like Mario Sports Mix. Yes, it is different, there are some good features about it that I feel are often overlooked. Yes, you don't play minigames as often, but I do find most of them enjoyable when they do come up. The gamepad mechanic in 10 was actually quite fun because it allowed for the Bowser player to be able to use mindgames and interesting strategies in minigames to deal with the other players. Also, because you all move together, positioning yourself for star collection and ztar avoidance is also crucial, so when he mentioned 10 not involving strategy I have to disagree. Games are also shorter and more streamlined which in some cases can be better. When a group of my dorm friends and I played Mario Party 2, we pretty much all wanted to die after playing it for so many rounds (can't remember how many we set but it was definitely over 25). Similarly, whenever I played Mario Party 8 with my family when it was first released, we only ever wanted to do 10-15 turns because the other options just dragged the game on for far too long. Also, he mentions that 10 didn't change much from 9, but let's not kid ourselves... All of the Gamecube games played the exact same minus the modes on the side which are usually just gimmicky or fun the first time and then never touched again. I could walk into the room while my sister is playing a Gamecube Mario Party and have absolutely no idea which of the four it is because of how similar they are. I'd be bold enough to make the assumption about the first three as well, but I've only seen actual gameplay from 2. In summary, I think that Mario Party 9 and 10 are pretty good games that are underappreciated. I get more people are attached to the format of the first eight games, but when people make a claim that "if they just played the originals, they'd realize what they were missing," I can't say I agree with that statement.
"Paper Mario Sticker Star isn't necessarily a bad game..." But I really think it is a bad game at its core. It shouldn't get slack just for being Mario. Even Mario can slip up.
Controversial Opinion: Mario Party Advance is my third favorite Mario Party game. Yes, the single-player mode is pathetically easy, but it's surprisingly fleshed out and can even be entertaining at times. The whole game is just single-player minigames (and a few duel games if you use a link cable), yes, but they're also some of the most fun minigames of the entire franchise. And the bonus content was, honestly, really good. Plus, the whole game just oozes charm. EXTREMELY CONTROVERSIAL OPINION: Sticker Star wasn't really that bad. I'd played through all three Paper Mario games prior to it, and...honestly, I don't see what all the hate is about. The sticker mechanic adds plenty of depth and strategy to the battles, the world layout is just as good as ever, and the humor still manages to crack me up. So far, the only case I've really seen against this game is just from people who worship TTYD like it's a god that will smite them instantly if they ever admit it has flaws. The game is good, but it's not perfect. I...actually had more fun with Sticker Star than I did with TTYD (though TTYD is undoubtedly better). I feel like it's about time people stopped screaming at each other for enjoying a game they don't. I mean, the hate for this agme is so overblown that on the Speedster's Top 100 Games of All Time list, he put Sticker Star at #72 and FREAKING SONIC '06 AT #71. Both well above Super Mario World, which was #76. Now, this is his opinion, and I say he's allowed to have it. However, what was actually disgusting is that I checked out the comments of the video for a good ten minutes or so. There were about five comments that seemed annoyed at his placement of Sonic '06...and nearly TWENTY screaming about Sticker Star. When you hate a genuinely decent game more than one of the worst games of all time, maybe it's time to reevaluate your standards.
Mario Party Advance was a fun single player romp. Fun and replay able mini games and side modes. It just wasn’t traditional Mario Party. And making a traditional 4-player Mario Party would not be easy to make or set up for play.
Y'know, paper mario sticker star and color splash mark the end of story driven paper mario and the beginning of aesthetic focused paper mario. Paper mario before sticker star had little focus on the paper gimmick, they could take place in a regular mario world and it wouldn't change too much, but ss and cs actually use the art style a lot, which is at least something good. Not saying they are better, but if i was to think about a mario game with a paper aesthetic, ss and cs would be my first thought.
1:48 "[Sticker Star] was released on the 3DS, but not the Wii U." That's not quite accurate. It WAS released for the Wii U four years later, and it's called Paper Mario: Color Splash.
@@sudd32x14 You missed the point. I was basically saying that Color Splash was a rehash of Sticker Star, and that such little had changed between the two games, that they might as well had been one in the same.
I love how Rabbid was slowly piecing together a suit in the intro.
Neutralist Omni
Wait, your profile pic. Is that the Moe-nado
(you've probably gotten this one before haven't you)
Yes I have. And yes it is.
*LI* XD
Neutralist Omni nice
That bit has me coming back to this vid every so often just for the “Li-“.
I've never actually seen the game over screen in New Super Mario Bros 2 and I've owned the game for 6 years!!
wow XD
m2 but that's because I only played it for a week -.-
same i got it on the launch date and i still have not seen the game over screen i looked up on youtube for it
I've only seen it because my little brother is awful at games
I’ve seen at least 3 times maybe more
“And I’m glad they never went back to new super Mario bros ”
*laughs in deluxe*
Miller Paule 😂
We don't speak of that game
To be fair, it's more of a port than anything else.
And it was of the decent Mario Bros U. If it was a port of 2, then we'd be in deep trouble.
Yeah
*That awkward moment when you have almost every game*
Same tho
I feel your pain.
The sad thing is that I emulated Mario is Missing at one point...
Lol, that profile picture
Most of these games are good imo. They're just the worst of the franchise, a franchise that imo doesn't have many bad games.
Can we all talk about how Rabbidluigi perfectly predicted Paper Mario the Origami King two years ago. Damn!
I do like Origami King, but it sucks that they STILL have yet to re-implement the RPG mechanics from the first two games. Thanks for the epic spoiler. Totally appreciated it.
And in 2023, we get the notification that Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door is also getting released on the Switch in 2024.
The sad thing about sticker star is that you could do an rpg based on items instead of exp, but in order for it to work you need to make the stickers rewards for defeating enemies. Breath of the Wild does it fantastically.
Patrick Murphy oh so basically earning weapons as rewards for battle
Good idea
Baten Kaitos did a great job at it as well.
The DOS version of Mario is Missing has one thing
It spawned Weegee
?but is that *really* a plus?
Yes. Weegee is god.
Umbreon Man depends on who you ask.
oh yay, more creepypasta material. next thing we know, toadette.exe will have a bad hair day in france.

Mario tennis ultra smash is almost like a demo for Mario tennis aces
Chopper8 XD Pretty much.
Aces isn't out. Though it looks great and your most likely right, you really don't know. ( But I Really hope your right! )
Chopper8 XD That’s exactly what I was thinking lol. The whole thing feels like an unfinished tech demo.
Could you imagine it the demo for Mario Tennis Aces has more content than Ultra Smash?
That's sad but true.
Who else wants a return of the Super Mario Strikers and Mario Superstar Baseball series' that only appeared on GameCube and Wii? Two Mario spinoff series' that haven't been seen in nearly 10 years, and I think they could use new installments. Who agrees?
How about a super mario galaxy for the switch
Super Mario Sluggers on the wii was such a fun game I wish they would bring it to switch
Strikers was super awesome
Mario sports superstars 3DS has both baseball and soccer. May not be the same but it’s close. I do prefer strikers and Sluggers over superstars but the 3DS game is still good

Everything Mario touches DOES turn to gold...
IF HE HAS A GOLD FLOWER
MrAwesome 1704 well, his gold balls do
Nice for Rabbidluigi to make another Mario video, eh Luigi?
I HOPE HE MADE LOTSA COLLABBI

Looks like the RabbidLuigi is in Danger. And NintendoLife’s gotta help us!
"Dear Pesky Plumbers,

Hey, you! Get off my cloud!

Thank god Sunshine isn’t on this list
Peter Haywood I mean it’s the worst 3D Mario game but all that means is that it’s solid, just not incredible. And yes I prefer 3D world and land,
Why would it its great
This comment makes me wish i actually played that game rather than just the demo at Circuit City
Liam Ryan what it's not the worst it's really fun
It's not that bad. it's decent.
Calling it right now hotel mario #1
And you're absolutely correct! You just won the grand prize of an absolute waste of time, with a bubbling sadness inside.

They do not have adult faces, DF.

Paper Mario Sticker Star IS a bad game because it’s an RPG where you’re encouraged to not fight
Antonio Morales Undertale has the same concept, but that got praised
Aka Ninger because the game was built around the idea. Sticker star still wants you to battle enemies
Undertale doesn't do the same thing: you'll enter battles but being a pacifist in-game allows for another route to fighting and the enemies are portrayed as actual people with homes and families that you destroy by killing or grinding. TheMajinMenace but the monsters attack you first. Why is Undertale teaching us to be push overs?
aka, UNDERTALE
I mostly agreed
My least favorite New Super Mario Bros. game is definitely the Wii game. Why don’t they just let me use the Classic controller??
Woah my name is Fletcher too

Color Splash was also boring

Pikachu Jackson / Gaming and More 3D world is better than odyssey
@@silkymilkymememonkey I can respect that. I personally am a little confused as to why Mario Odyssey has sold more copies on the Switch than Breath of the Wild. I could've sworn Breath of the Wild was most successful, but whatever.
i play botw on my wii u because the switch is for people who have a lot of money for stuff like that and i freak out when i hear someone is getting it
But we can all agree that sticker star is the worst
Pikachu Jackson / Gaming and More do you respect Mario party 10 being my favorite Mario part game?
i actually like mario party 9 *hides*
I actually liked its car mechanic, never understood why the fuss about it :/
And I also enjoyed MP8, despite how un-Mario it looked most of the time.
I have fond memories of Mario Party 9, but playing the N64 Mario Party games afterward made me realize how...for lack of a better description, soulless MP9 was.
honestly 9 is way better then 1 almost every game is simply because of those stupid minigames...
Mario party ds is my favourite, however I want the next mp game to go back to the pre mp9 gameplay if it will shut everyone up.
So do I it’s very nostalgic to me.

Why wasn't Sticker Star a Kirby spin-off? Seriously, imagine using stickers to use copy abilities in an RPG.
Now that I think about it, had a Sticker Star-like spinoff been made for any other franchise or had been its own separate game, that would have been held in a much higher regard.

Top 5/10 Underrated Games that became Popular. Examples like Earthbound and Xenoblade

James Hattrait No sht
I think NSMB 2 shouldn't really be here. Was it easy? Shure, but it's not like a ton of lives made a difference as you can very well beat most modern Mario games without dying much. The challenge mode on the other hand can be extremely brutal.
If you wanted to make a statement against blandness you should have taken Super Mario Run instead.
I'm in the minority. Mario is Missing is one of my favorite mario games. But that might be because I've been a trivia fiend since I was five, and this thing is basically GUESS UNTIL YOU LEARN A NIFTY FACT on loop.

Top 5 Best Nintendo Villains
1.Fawful
Andrew Hopson Count Bleck best be on that list!

Even the king of video games has his downs, everyone does. Except for Kirby, somehow that pink puffball has kept a perfect record for 25 years
The #6 Runaway Guys Fan Just because Triple Deluxe and Robobot are taking the formula of Return to Dreamland doesn't make them bad (in fact Robobot is probably the best game in the series).
Actually, there is a TV show, or more specifically an anime, I think, about Kirby.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 might have been a great game if it was a parody of the usual Mario games and was more focused on exploration while you drown in coins. While they're at it, they could cut out the life system and throw some new power-ups such as letting you cause earthquakes or shoot out fire like a blowtorch. But then again, Mario might not be the right choice for a game like this so maybe they could make Wario the main character instead...and rename the game "New Wario Land"?...

Sticker Star is the result of Nintendo NOT being able to say NO to Miyamoto.
We missed you dude!
What was wrong with Mario sports mix?
I actually like all of these games you said

It's honestly not. Nintendo went for something new but just didn't execute it right.

I REALLY want a new super sluggers game.
When you hate a genuinely decent game more than one of the worst games of all time, maybe it's time to reevaluate your standards.
party advance really wasn that bad
Mario Party Advance was a fun single player romp. Fun and replay able mini games and side modes. It just wasn’t traditional Mario Party. And making a traditional 4-player Mario Party would not be easy to make or set up for play.
I would much rather play 06 than sticker star

Y'know, paper mario sticker star and color splash mark the end of story driven paper mario and the beginning of aesthetic focused paper mario. Paper mario before sticker star had little focus on the paper gimmick, they could take place in a regular mario world and it wouldn't change too much, but ss and cs actually use the art style a lot, which is at least something good. Not saying they are better, but if i was to think about a mario game with a paper aesthetic, ss and cs would be my first thought.
