+ShiitakeWarrior i completed the game 100% when I was like 11. To think that super mario world levels even make it onto this guy's top ten is astonishing for me. :^)
Wanna know something funny? I finished the perfect run in my first try, but then I thought that, at the end, the platform I was standing on next to Rosalina was a planet. Long story short, I fell down without getting the star and only managed to complete it again after ~18 tries.
Another hard level: that mummy maze level from Captain Toad Treasure Tracker. I know it's not technically a Mario game, but I still think it deserves an honorable mention. The controls, camera, dead-ends, length (50 rounds of this crap), and over-abundance of enemies really makes it a tough one. The fire piranha plants are the worst, with Chargin' Chucks a close 2nd.
poisonduck P Oh, you answered me, well I didn't get any notification. I know they aren't hacked but I just wanted to let you know that there are already "third party levels" that are pretty hard (my levels included) or even Kaizo. Mario Maker won't let you make harder levels than there exist already.
I still have nightmares of that Grand Master Galaxy... I'm so proud to say that I completed the Perfect Run, but there were many tears, tantrums and screams along the way. I unlocked the final level in 3D World, but I haven't been able to bring myself to go through that level of torture again...
I'm surprised no one's mentioned the trick where if you have extra controllers, just connect all of them at the end of a level in 3D World, jump on the flagpole with every character you chose including your character, and BOOM! the level only has to be played up to two or three times depending on how many controllers you have.
Having played every single one of these (except for Super Circuit's Rainbow Road), I am so glad you gave the NO. 1 spot to what you gave it to. Beating that with all FIVE characters basically in a row one Friday night this January from hell nearly destroyed me mentally. I was shaking by the time it was over, and was pretty much ready to slaughter the gamepad when I was done. I have beaten The Lost Levels and would rather play through that entire game again rather than do Champion's Road once more. I think it's the hardest thing I've ever done in a videogame at all. But I did get 100%...and that's what matters...right? (sobs)
"I think it's the hardest thing I've ever done in a videogame at all" Huh. You haven't played "I wanna be the guy" I see(That game makes champion's road and the perfect run look like New Super Mario Bros' Giant Goomba Boss battle in comparison. It's that unmerciful.) Then again, don't try it if you value your mental health. and yes, you did it, and that's what matters
EZ64 IWBTG is a game that was designed by a couple of developers to be unbeatable pretty much... sure it can be beaten, EVENTUALLY. You could literally play IWBTG everyday for about a year and still never complete it... Type in TH-cam: I Wanna Be The Guy and click on any video to see it played through. And unless it played like that perfectly, it isn't being beaten. Stick to Champion's Road ;)
''Sir! This is my first time being a brain surgeon! What do i do?!'' ''Ah, it's easy'' ''How!? It's a human brain!'' ''Just fix the squishy head thing..''
10. Totally Agreed, this is the hardest Star to me in Mario 64, Heck even Bowser in the Sky isn't this unforgiveable 9. Corona Mountain really looks frustating, it's up there with the Lilly pad minigame 8. I really want to play that game as Luigi is one of my favorite characters in Mario 7. Agreed, Super Circuit's Rainbow Road is the hardest one with Double Dash being the easiest thanks to experience 6. I would never want to play that level 5. I fucking hated this level, it's the worst level in the game, I only beat it cause I got lucky. 4. My most hated mario game, and it's my favorite franchise no less. 3. Agreed, I like Yoshi's Island, but I don't like the bonus levels 2. Quite suprising, many proably thought this was going to be #1 1. One of the most recent games, being the hardest level rather fasicinating
me neither ^^ sure the floor is sometime extra slippy, but I didn't encounter glitches! And I did all the stars exept for the FUCKING LILI-PAD OF DEATH! (FUCK YOSHI HATING WATER)
I've beaten both, sort of, and I remember the Perfect Run being a bit harder (it took me more time, at least). The Champion's Road is the reason I said "sort of": I could only beat it with Rosalina. Beating it with Toad will take some serious skill and patience.
***** I'm honestly really confused as to how I've NEVER beaten The Perfect Run. I've been playing the game since it came out and I still just can't beat it for whatever reason.
BlockSquad1000 I beat champions road with Mario in around 200 try's. Just make sure you are at least decent at the game and you know how to long jump, then it won't take as long
Let's see how many of these levels I've played! 10) Oh yeah, this one's tough! And it blows that if you fail (which you likely will, a lot), you have to run allllll the way back. 9) Oh, the pain. First part isn't too bad, but the mud boat is a nightmare. Sooooo many deaths my first few times through here. 8) Haven't played this, but wow! 7) Oh yeah, this is one's one of the toughest Rainbow Roads, hands down. Took me lots of practice to master Super Circuit's courses. 6) Haven't played this level, but I've played some very similar levels in the secret worlds of Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's New Island. 5) I found this to be the toughest level in the Special Zone, mostly because if you get hit once, you're dead, no matter what form you take. 4) I have not played this game much despite owning it because of how difficult it is. Never got to that level. 3) I died sooooo many times on this level trying to 100% it. But I've gotten the hang of it now, and can complete it with relatively few deaths. 2) Have not played this, but dayum! 1) No Wii U, so I can't play this one. But wow, looks insane!
well sadly i spent 5 years NOT KNOWING HOW THE HELL TO UNLOCK PERFECT RUN until i finally searched google and realised i had a whole 2 hours of starbit farming ahead of me. i do have it 100% now. 309 deaths by the way. couldve been lower if i didnt starbit farm or freaking rage on the boss blitz comet.
Something I find odd is that poochy ain't stupid makes this list but not endless world of Yoshi's which most people would consider the hardest level in Yoshi's island,I get that it's exclusive to the GBA version but it's still odd
For me the most hair-rending level in Sunshine was always that damned pachinko level, simply because they mucked up the physics in order to get the pachinko effect. It actively fights you from using your hover nozzle in a precise way, which either means you have to fight that the whole way (dying a lot) or let it shoot you randomly (dying a lot). Oh, and when you die you lose your red coin progress. Have fun!
When I beat Champion's Run, I threw the gamepad across the room and ran out of the room with Rocky's face printed out on a piece of paper stapled to my face, with "We Are the Champion's" playing in the background.
Hey rabbidluigi, don't forget that in New Super Luigi U, Mario was replaced by nabbit, who is completely invincible to everything except one-hit-kill things.
Ohhh god, me and my brother spent hours on Champions Road and we died about 800 times, but when we completed it EEEVERYTHING was great... Until we found out that you have to beat every level as every character to get 100% completion. Nope.
World 8-2 in Super Mario Bros. was the bane of my existence. Not sure why this didn't make it. World 8-3 is hard but nowhere near as challenging as 8-2. And 8-4 isn't too hard at all if you know the path.
Took me two years to do that crazy one-hit run in Mario Galaxy 2, and when I beat it, I screamed so loudly, my neighbors heard me- BUT IT WAS SO WORTH IT.
There are at least dozen most hardest to get a Shine Sprites in Super Mario Sunshine, including the pinball machine to collect 8 red coin in Delfino Town, collecting 8 red coins in the polluted water and had to ride the lily pad and use the spin jump and use the hover nozzle to reach some of the red coin without landing on the polluted water to lose a life, secret levels on some Shine Sprites on all 7 levels as "Dark Mario" does steal your nozzle and complete the puzzles the old fashioned way without breaking a sweat, same thing as collecting the 8 red coin within the time limit that already cleared the levels that fake Mario had temporarily steal your nozzle.
I can honestly say that Champion's Road with Mario/Luigi and Toad is the hardest level in any Nintendo game I've ever played. Screw Lost Levels, screw Zelda II, this is it. I made a promise to myself, once I got to the level, that I would play for an hour every day until I beat it (with Mario/Luigi/Toad). That was back last December. I beat it in March. This may not seem like much, but that was an hour every day (minus days I couldn't play, so really 6 hours a week) for 3 months. That's almost 72 straight hours on that one damn level. Half of this was probably my adrenaline and anxiousness fucking me up, but it took so damn long. I spent a total of 3 straight days on this damn level.
its easiest with peach for me, and if you combine it with the tanooki, i believe you can have even longer hover ability, it would be easiest with rosalina if it weren't for the piranha plants but i do agree with it being hard with mario, luigi, and toad... [luigi easier because he jumps higher which does help.]
I remember my family buying Super Mario Galaxy 2, and my dad binge-playing every level. He never beat The Perfect Run, and he put 10 hours into it. There was also that level with chilli-Yoshi on the wall.
It is technically a level and actually got first on JTWizz's list, however, I would say 3) Don't. Touch. Anything. 2) Champion Road 1) The Perfect Freaking Run
Jadem0nas I cleared Champions Road, it took forever to do it though. So I have some tips, bring friends, bring power ups and don't give up you will get it eventually.
I don't know why people have such a hard time with Corona Mountain. It's just as easy as any of the other worlds in the game, and the lava boat section is a breeze as long as you don't slam down the spray button and sending yourself hurtling. Seriously, you don't put the pachinko machine or the lily-pad level on here instead?
Fun fact: the spikes in Corona Mountain technically aren't insta-kill, they do 3 damage per frame. It actually takes them 1/10 of a second to kill you from full life (Sunshine is 30FPS). It's a minor difference, but it means it IS possible to survive the spikes, shown in AverageTrey's AGDQ 2018 run where he touches them at their last active frame by mistake and only takes 3 damage as a result.
MK Wii was my first, so I race around Rainbow Road like it was my goddammed backyard, but I had a friend that started playing with MK 64 and he had quite the battle against that level (also he always finished 10th-7th)
Magalor Da Suppreme it really isn't that hard If you know how to trick without losing control when you get the speed boost. I love MK wii why does everyone hate it?
Who here actually beat 3D World 100%? Because I feel your pain. Champion's Road is utterly insane. And Mystery House Marathon? More like Mystery House MADNESS.
Lost Levels is hard when you're playing on a gameboy and half of your screen is missing. "Oh, another leap of faith. I hope that there is something to land on at the other... nope, no. Lavapit."
What about the secret level at the very end of super Mario 3D land? You had to 100% the game to get it, and it is exactly like the perfect run. While being like it, it puts you through puzzles and concepts all while fight extremely hard enemies. Whoever thought jumping on a toads head would be useful?
But it's not quite as long as Perfect Run or Champion's Road, and it is pretty much broken with a tanooki leaf (the hardest part is the set of jumps right before the boss. From then on it's smooth sailing)
T.J. Thorsen Nope. There is one coin outside of enemy on that stage, right at the start of the stage. And, at the end I had 48 coins, so it was something like that. Before I started the stage I upped my lives to 99 :P
Fire bar sprint is pretty easy if you do like this: When you enter the level, hold y and right. Immediatly when the level begins, tap right 5 TIMES, and then start running. This will give you the perfect timing. Then, don't stop. Just run.
Ah yes, Lost Levels' C-3... I hated that level. In the NES version you have to beat the world in one go without a game over and oh boy, it caused trouble.
You have to realise when this video was released, just after 3d world was released and everyone thought it was the best thing ever, champions run is actually quite easy, yet the hype around the game made it seem so more difficult while the perfect run was deemed obsolete
In Mario Color Splash, most levels does give the gamers and instant game over, after getting the Red Big Paint Star, especially in Level 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and Bowser's Castle when rescuing Princess Peach from the clutches of Bowser and must escape from Bowser's Castle before it will collapse within the time limit.
I've played Super Mario World so much that I have not died once in my last 3 playthrough of the game on Tubular. It gets to where it's so easy after playing through the game so much.
9:20 Bring a blue Yoshi and cape feather into this level and you can beat it by flying without the p balloon. You might have to jump of Yoshi at the end, however. There are koopas at the beginning of the stage and when blue yoshi has any shell in his mouth, he gets wings. you can get blue yoshi in the water level in star world
I have a Ph.D. in biochemistry, I'm a second degree black belt in karate, yet I consider completing the Perfect Run my greatest achievement!
Dennis Sawyer 😂. BTW congrats on your PHD and black belt as that is still impressive. Well Done!
I'm a yellow belt.
Seriously? So do I. Just with Champion's Road.
Perfect Run is one of the only achievements I took pictures of to record my triumph.
Don't you mean "the "S" word just got real? 7:26
*FUN FACT:* The "Tubular" level in Super Mario World can be beaten while riding a Blue Yoshi. (It's not at all easy, but it _is_ doable.)
+ShiitakeWarrior yeah, hard as fuck no matter how you cut it
+ShiitakeWarrior i completed the game 100% when I was like 11. To think that super mario world levels even make it onto this guy's top ten is astonishing for me. :^)
+ShiitakeWarrior
I was just about to type that myself...Lol
do you mean with or without eating a koopa? without the fly ability I have only done this twice.
+ShiitakeWarrior its easy for me XP
"Fix the squishy head thing" That always cracks me up xD
Wanna know something funny? I finished the perfect run in my first try, but then I thought that, at the end, the platform I was standing on next to Rosalina was a planet. Long story short, I fell down without getting the star and only managed to complete it again after ~18 tries.
"What could be worse than instakill obstacles and precision jumping? A boat! From Hell!!!"
I mean, it literally is. XD

that aged well
Hardest 2d mario level... untill Mario Maker comes out in september.

yes, but these are all NON hacked levels
+poisonduck P Wow

I'm gonna make the most impossible level EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"I think Super Circuit [Rainbow Road] went a little bit overboard."
nice
real nice
14:06 I'm sorry, is that A HOLLOW STAR ON THE PERFECT RUN??? What masochist did that nightmare AFTER COMPLETING IT???
Corona Mountain made me quit the game for 5 years, I came back to it and finally beat it about 2 months ago. XD
I still have nightmares of that Grand Master Galaxy... I'm so proud to say that I completed the Perfect Run, but there were many tears, tantrums and screams along the way. I unlocked the final level in 3D World, but I haven't been able to bring myself to go through that level of torture again...
Perfect run made me run out of my house
"The same way brain surgery sounds easy if you phrase it as 'fix the squishy head thingy'"
True and hilarious.
You may cry over champions road
But i remember the sand bird...
Nah champians road is easy. Perfect run is... oof (by the way i beat the hammar bros on perfect run first try)
Please, the sand bird isn't hard. Just annoying very occasionally.

Number 1: Everything in Super Mario Maker.
Lol
Every level NOT made by Nintendo.
agreed...well expect for automated levels
Monado Boi #1: Every one of Ross's levels.
Depends on the level. Lots of super easy ones there as well as super hard
I remember playing The Perfect Run. Ah, it brings back short-term nostalgia.
"a boat...FROM HELL" - rabbidluigi, 2014
Having played every single one of these (except for Super Circuit's Rainbow Road), I am so glad you gave the NO. 1 spot to what you gave it to. Beating that with all FIVE characters basically in a row one Friday night this January from hell nearly destroyed me mentally. I was shaking by the time it was over, and was pretty much ready to slaughter the gamepad when I was done. I have beaten The Lost Levels and would rather play through that entire game again rather than do Champion's Road once more. I think it's the hardest thing I've ever done in a videogame at all. and yes, you did it, and that's what matters
VladNorris Sounds fun haha........but mostly scary. Is it called that because there's only one guy who's ever beat it: the guy?
EZ64
nah, the main character wants to become "the guy" after his grandfather "the guy" died. Give it a try if you want to ;)

Double Dash has the easiest Rainbow Road? You clearly have not played Mario Kart 64.
I have played it, but Double Dash is the game I played the most from Mario Kart
Fair enough, but the Rainbow Road from Mario Kart 64 is completely walled. There is almost no challenge to that course except hitting a wall.

What about World 9-7 in NSMB Wii ?
that is extremely easy not even the hardest in the game
Extrime Land he is hardest than the level in NSMB U. And what is the hardest in the game ?
not sure 9-3 is an example as a harder level in the world still only moderate 9-7 might be close though
Extrime Land world 9-3 is not really hard ( this is the level with the red bill ball )
9-7 would be a Top 20 if you had to get all star coins. Otherwise it's almost child's play.
For me the most hair-rending level in Sunshine was always that damned pachinko level, simply because they mucked up the physics in order to get the pachinko effect. It is technically a level and actually got first on JTWizz's list, however, I would say 3) Don't. Touch. Anything. 2) Champion Road 1) The Perfect Freaking Run
well... i gave up on champions road after i lost 100 lives, *LEGITIMATLY* , no joke
How bout Cashless Castle Crawl?!
Jadem0nas I cleared Champions Road, it took forever to do it though. So I have some tips, bring friends, bring power ups and don't give up you will get it eventually.
RL: I bow down to you, oh God of Mario Kart.
Me: You called?
I don't know why people have such a hard time with Corona Mountain. It's just as easy as any of the other worlds in the game, and the lava boat section is a breeze as long as you don't slam down the spray button and sending yourself hurtling. Seriously, you don't put the pachinko machine or the lily-pad level on here instead?
***** the new super luigi u level on this list was also optional
***** so was Fire Bar Sprint
I know, right? I beat Corona Mountain on my first try - though I did die to Bowser a couple times.
Corona Mountain is easy. The Lily Pad level is another story.
No they're required to 100% the game
Fun fact: the spikes in Corona Mountain technically aren't insta-kill, they do 3 damage per frame. It actually takes them 1/10 of a second to kill you from full life (Sunshine is 30FPS).
It's a minor difference, but it means it IS possible to survive the spikes, shown in AverageTrey's AGDQ 2018 run where he touches them at their last active frame by mistake and only takes 3 damage as a result.
Regarding Rainbow Road: Id defenitly go woth the Wii version, as this is literally the only RR i could NEVER finish first, never.
Wow that was the easiest Rainbow Road for me.
MK Wii was my first, so I race around Rainbow Road like it was my goddammed backyard, but I had a friend that started playing with MK 64 and he had quite the battle against that level (also he always finished 10th-7th)
Wii was my first Mario Kart, and I was able to beat Rainbow Road easily with enough practice
Magalor Da Suppreme High five, bro !
Magalor Da Suppreme it really isn't that hard If you know how to trick without losing control when you get the speed boost. I love MK wii why does everyone hate it?
It took me tons of lives and weeks of hard work to beat Champions Road with all five characters, never been so happy being a gamer in my entire life.
Video killed the radio star.
robofish312 so so true...
Stephyy _ you obviously don't get it
Have a little have a little have a little faith in me!
Lol I remember that
's a good song.
Oh my goodness watch out for the disappearing platforms. That would be a very long title!
3:16 LOL
Yes!
Mariyo i want to play legend of zelda wind waker hd
your picture reminded me of it
From hell!
Who here actually beat 3D World 100%? Because I feel your pain. Champion's Road is utterly insane. And Mystery House Marathon? More like Mystery House MADNESS.
9-7 from NSMB Wii and Luigi's Goddamn Purple Coins from Galaxy are both harder than Corona Mountain or Wing Mario over the Rainbow.
9-7 is very easy not even the hardest in the game
+Extrime Land My point is it's harder than Corona Mountain.
How is 9-7 not the hardest?
no probably not i can beat with the star coins 1,2 maybe 3 tries
So what would you say is the hardest then?
Lost Levels is hard when you're playing on a gameboy and half of your screen is missing. "Oh, another leap of faith. I hope that there is something to land on at the other... nope, no. Lavapit."
What about the secret level at the very end of super Mario 3D land? You had to 100% the game to get it, and it is exactly like the perfect run. While being like it, it puts you through puzzles and concepts all while fight extremely hard enemies. Whoever thought jumping on a toads head would be useful?
That was #1
In super Mario 3d land, not world
Oh, sorry.
But it's not quite as long as Perfect Run or Champion's Road, and it is pretty much broken with a tanooki leaf (the hardest part is the set of jumps right before the boss. From then on it's smooth sailing)
I used to do those rainbow road shortcuts in Super Circuit when I was 4. It's been like 10 years and I wonder how I ever managed to do them.
Vector710
What are you talking about? You mean like one of the stunts shows in this video, or another pro skill?
Frankly, I think #2 & #1 should be tied. I played both of them. I completed neither. 241 Stars. 99% 3D World. Just. Why?
T.J. Thorsen
I beat Perfect Run on try 48.
Don't have a wiiu, never played 3d world.
You kept count?
T.J. Thorsen
Nope.
There is one coin outside of enemy on that stage, right at the start of the stage. And, at the end I had 48 coins, so it was something like that. Before I started the stage I upped my lives to 99 :P
Won't help on the perfect run.
T.J. Thorsen
Star bit*
Just remembered that coins disappear when you die, it was a star bit.
Can you do hardest sonic levels, hardest Spyro/crash levels, hardest DK levels and hardest miscellaneous platformer levels to complement this one
Am I still a good player if I have beaten all of these except for #4?
JackWood and Shadoo you are still good
Mary Gawron ok
you are god
JackWood and Shadoo Woah! You beat everything but C-3
yes
Says "Poochy ain't stupid" causes heartattacks. Writes "Q+A's" on the endcard.
Well, fail.
Hardest level: Wing Cap level in Super Mario 64 Chaos Edition.
Lol, that would be fucked up!!!
Du bist auch überall!
Luke Voss jap, Omnipräsenz ist wichtig, um das Volk unter Kontrolle zu halten ;P
***** your hack gave me cancer
Ben Garrett At least it had an impact on you ;)
well, im sure that most of these levels are juat childs play for you. Well, when you compare them to something like the creudello sphere
You have to realise when this video was released, just after 3d world was released and everyone thought it was the best thing ever, champions run is actually quite easy, yet the hype around the game made it seem so more difficult while the perfect run was deemed obsolete
Uhh yes. Corona Mountain
I am incredibly proud of myself for having The Perfect Run and all five playthroughs of Champion's Road under my belt.
NEVER AGAIN.
Super Mario Sunshine predicted the corona virus interesting...
Jordan Mcminn
even as a joke (please tell me this is a joke btw( this comment makes me unnecessarily angry. god I hate “predicted” comments
The Super Mario Sunshine bonus music in the interludes was enough to make me go through PTSD from the damn Village Underside level
the perfect run was much more difficult than the champions road
I know that you're just stating an opinion, but...
FUCK NO
PERFECT RUN WAS EASY
Champion's Road is so difficult, especially with Blue Toad...
i did the champions road in one time it was super easy
FrozenPhoenix Saying Champions Road is easy is the type of thing that gets you sent to an insane asylum.
i didn't died one time on championsroad
FrozenPhoenix But still, it's mostly OPINION. Remember that bud, and we'll get along.
Its always nice to know that rabidluigi is a runawayguys fan
Am I the only person that doesn't like Mario kart 8
Yep.
HAAAATE it
Marcus Henderson why?
I like it
Siggy'sTundra I don't like it.
Rabbidluigi the cape actually CAN save you from tubular
In Mario Color Splash, most levels does give the gamers and instant game over, after getting the Red Big Paint Star, especially in Level 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and Bowser's Castle when rescuing Princess Peach from the clutches of Bowser and must escape from Bowser's Castle before it will collapse within the time limit.
Tubular was definitely the hardest level of SMW. I remember beating the special world for the first time and feeling so damn accomplished
I like when he says "oh god of Mario kart" on the rainbow road one lol.
Wario's Castle from SML2 was always killer for me.
There are koopas at the beginning of the stage and when blue yoshi has any shell in his mouth, he gets wings. you can get blue yoshi in the water level in star world
9:00 Ironically, in my 96 exit playthrough of SMW, Tubular was insanely easy while Gnarly was the bane of my existence...
Why though? Isn't that the very first level of Special World? It was easy enough.
6:25 One of my very first video games ever . . . . ahhhh, the memories . . . .
I feel like Corona Mountain wasn't really that hard at all, but the pachinko machine was madness.
