so glad to see her talking about the show. she was so crucial to making one of the greatest comedies to ever exist. absolutely timeless. thanks for all the laughs Pauline.
Ahh Brilliant!! I'm so happy to see her talking about Father Ted now, as I know she has refused to talk about it for a long time. I could always understand that, as she is an actress and wants to play others roles and has probably been tortured by people of the years. Though it is so great to see her embrace this now, and that people just want Pauline to know how much they enjoyed the show, and that it would have been no good without her. She seems so at ease now and comfortable, kind of how I would imagine her to be. I think she has aged really well too.
Father Ted, Mrs Doyle and the entire cast are a treasure. One of the very best comedy series ever made. Mrs Doyle trying to guess a priests name is magical.
I can't believe it! (😛wrong show😉) So happy to see this, after years of hearing that PM refusing to be interviewed or talk about Father Ted, I'm happy that she is happy and happily chatting about Mrs. Doyle. 🥰
Such a sweet heart, and her contributions to the show were just as important but much more subtle, catching a glimpse of her falling off the roof just kills me. So talented!
Couldn’t stand it when it was first aired, was only when my Portuguese wife started watching it, I got hooked, definitely one of my favourite comedies.
Funny she talks about the 'tea' catchphrase because they also parodied that whole celeb thing in the 3rd series with Richard Wilson's 'I don't believe it' character.
She was born in 1962. Father Ted was broadcast in 1995. Even if it was recorded a year earlier she would still have been in her 30s not her 20s when she played Mrs Doyle.
It is amazing how she doesn't look any older after all these years, probably because they gave her make-up to make her look older. But the actor who plays Dougle now looks older than Mrs Doyle.
Pauline MacLynn has gone down the path of Fay Wray, who for years hated the scream queen label and being recognised mainly from "King Kong," but then eventually came to accept is as the highlight of her career, and even started speaking about the movie with fondness.
Better to be revered and remembered for a single role of absolute brilliance, than being forever anonymous and forgotten for one hundred mediocre performances. Linda Blair of The Exorcist fame is another actress that springs to mind.
It’s nice to see Father Ted streaming free on youtube, tubi, prime etc. I think a day doesn’t go by that I have Father Ted on the TV at least passively for the last 5 years (and have been watching it RELIGIOUSLY for the last 20). It’s my litmus test for whether I find someone intelligent or having a sense of humor. Ironically most Americans (which is where I am located) don’t quite love it
There are some exceptionally talented actors that have have had varied careers, but will still always be associated with one stand out role (Hyacinth Bucket, Victor Meldrew, Dorien Green…, even Joanna Lumley will always be associated with Patsy more than any of her other roles), and Pauline is one of them. I can understand why they would want to sever the connection but it’s a shame as, from the fans, they would get such loyalty if they embraced that specific character more.
Nice to see that she's far more accepting of both 'Father Ted' and 'Mrs Doyle' these days. For years after, she was the one who resented her role the most.
We need a movie, realizing it may need new set of actors. But that show does deserve to be made in a movie. And it has to have Graham Norton character now playing as a Bishop.
It must be strange to be part of something so huge, at least with a cult following as Father Ted, because I remember she didn’t want to be in the documentary because she was tired of the Association. I guess she’s come to terms with it and I think that happens a lot. Like with Leonard Nimoy’s spock
Proud? I'd heard she was trying to do her best to distance herself from the character... I remember a radio ad she did I think for the orange mobile phone company
You're right she didn't want anything to do with the Father Ted documentary because she wanted to get away from Mrs Doyle, yet here she is saying she's proud of the character and show
@@abenormal9075you can be proud of something while also wanting to distance yourself from it and explore new things. In fact I’d say it’s rather common
She was typecast because of it and it cast a long shadow over her career. She’s come to accept it for what it is. She wouldn’t be the first actor to resent a massive role they couldn’t shake off.
Father Ted is up there with the greatest comedy shows of all time. Utterly brilliant in every way!
Definitely! Up there with Blackadder!
I'll drink to that!
Shame the writer is being treated so shamefully for his commonsensical views
@@LaPtiteAnglaise100%!!!
@@LaPtiteAnglaise That's not how you spell nonsensical.
I hope she realizes just how much she contributed to the happiness in people lives.

Pauline McLynn is an absolute legend here across the sea too here in the U.K. - we love her!

For sure, she looks great, ironically she looks younger now than her character Mrs Doyle lol
When I need cheering up, I always put on Father Ted😊
Pauline McLynn is fantastic isn’t she!❤️ “Cup of tea Father”?!☕️
Ah go on

I think you meant “I don’t believe it” from One foot in the grave. Victor Meldrew played a key role in an episode of Father Ted also
Yeah I heard she refused to talk about it.
..happily talking about Mrs. Doyle...warts and all
Still one of my favourite line reads ever was Mrs Doyle reading a book on how to watch football and reciting "Gw on........... my son"
Pauline Played Mrs. Doyle Perfectly. 🤗.
It hit all the right angles of comedy plus the dynamics of the characters is what made it super special
She is everything i loved about her character and so very sweet, beautiful woman then and now
PAULINE ,THANK YOU DARLING FOR MAKING OUR LIVES SO MUCH MORE ENRICHED AND CHEERFUL.
Such a sweet heart, and her contributions to the show were just as important but much more subtle, catching a glimpse of her falling off the roof just kills me. So talented!
Still love father Ted. Mrs Doyle falling out the window gets me every time😂
Mrs. Doyle has one of the most electric laughs I've seen. Pauline's has that gift for physical comedy 💖
Pauline was absolutely gorgeous when she was younger
Love Father Ted and Mrs. Doyle is just hilarious :)
What?! I've watched the show like ten times and i didn't know that she wasn't that old. This blows my mind.
Absolutely! great show! ! Watching it right now as we speak!
When Father Ted is on it brings me joy
Craggy Island just hasnt been the same since this lot left. RIP Father Ted.
Yeah, but on the plus side, Chinatown is thriving

What an absolute charming young lady.. ♥️

An essential character in other brilliant characters in a fantastic show. I’ve been a fan since the first episode. Thanks to all involved.
Do ya know what would be funny ? Shouting “go on , go on , go on “ during this interview.
I can’t see anything going wrong there 😉
Love the show .
Mad stuff.
Love Mrs Doyle , such a great character
Watching Father Ted again right now

Ah go on Ted. I bet no one ever says that to him. He’ll think it’s great
Thanks for posting.
Iconic character. Wonderful actress.
She was born in 1962. Father Ted was broadcast in 1995. Even if it was recorded a year earlier she would still have been in her 30s not her 20s when she played Mrs Doyle.
Well, she definitely looked a lot older than she was, probably due to makeup to make her look older. She was around the same age as Dougle.
Well done. We must at be specific!

I miss father Ted,
The DVDs are about a pound each man.

Love that show❤❤❤❤
Such a bright amazing woman
A childhood classic
Love father Ted and the WHOLE cast from southern California

Love Mrs Doyle ❤️
Pauline was also great in *"Shameless"* when it was still brilliant, before it went downhill.
My favourite comedienne, funny in the extreme!😅
She was in Shameless as well.

she should have been in the reunion / big in her boots to think it would hinder her in doing anything bigger than father ted

I think I remember her on other RTE shows like maybe Forty Coats.

She never used to like talking about it as I recall. Refused all 'reunion'-type TV shows about it for instance.
What is she doing now?
Nice to see that she's far more accepting of both 'Father Ted' and 'Mrs Doyle' these days. For years after, she was the one who resented her role the most.
That makes me so sad to hear. She is my favorite character.
Interestingly, the man she married was Mr Pat Mustard.
Father Ted is so much more enjoyable if you were brought up a Catholic.
I could watch her falling out of the window or off the sill for hours.

She didn't play Mrs Doyle in her 20s
Would you have a cup of tea Pauline?

Both Ted and Jack are dead now so they'd have to be recast. It wouldn't be the same.
We really don’t.
There’s enough classic film & TV being destroyed with ridiculous comebacks and remakes…. leave Father Ted where it is.
And she'd look the age now .
@@indigo8021 Dead right, remakes rarely, if ever, work. I'm betting the new Frasier wil be a disaster.
