I was in a pub in Aylesbury at around 10.30 in the evening and Pauline McLynn walked in after finishing at the local theatre. She is a most friendly and unassuming lady who willingly gave of her time to discuss Father Ted and Shameless. Very talented.
@@Dogslife_ I read that Pauline McLynn actually improvised the “ride me sideways” line, and Dermot Morgan was laughing so much that a quick cutaway was required.
I really miss the Father Ted series . I always looked forward to it being aired on Friday nights . Watching it now makes me feel sort of sad . Makes me think of happier times !
@@KarlHamilton I completely forgot I wrote this comment as it was almost 4 years ago, But I believe you’re right. I had a terrible way of wording my comments around the time I wrote this, I think what I meant to say was: “Ride me sideway” wasn’t originally on script, but after Doyle’s actor blurted it out during one of the rehearsals they decided to add it onto the final script.
I just happened to read an article in the March 5th 2018 issue of Home & Away on "Remembering The genius of "Father Ted" Dermot Morgan. So I had to watch an episode. What a really great comedy and I love the cast. Pauline McLynn is amazing, such a great talent herself. Now I want to see everything she's done.
I may be imaging it but I can see Dermot smirking at 1:42 after Mrs Doyle says, "get your bollocks out of my face". Also I think he opened the door the wrong way initially :)
I don't think she says "It was terrible Father" I think she says "The door doesn't open" because if you look Ted moves the door the wrong way and she is discretely telling him to move it the other way so it will open.
This is classic. It's got to be one of the best scenes in the entire series. Listen to it with earphones and you'll hear Mrs Doyle corpse after she says "Get your bollocks out of my face". How they both didn't corpse long before they got to the door is beyond me. I read somewhere that that line was Pauline McLynn ad-libbing.
One of the best comedies ever made. Mrs Doyle was just unbelievably funny.. But nearly every episode of Father Ted was a classic. The song for Europe, my lovely horse .. Pat Mustard, sexiest man in Ireland. Comedy Gold...
my girlfriend came over from Saudi Arabia a few weeks ago. she had never seen father Ted before, but we found the five best episodes..... she saw it and absolutely loved it! she hasnt sdeen this clip yet. she wont know what to make of it, but by the third time she'll be in hysterics
I don't know how the guys operating the cameras were coping with this, and all the other behind the scenes workers as well.Mrs. Doyle was really putting everything into this scene,I can imagine they were just about rolling on the floor with laughter. She looks quite old but in reality she is young.I love this show.
Never tire of watching this. Two comic geniuses with brilliant timing at their finest.
I honestly believe that Father Ted is Irelands greatest export.....no other sitcom can compare to father ted in any way, sheer genius!!
@George Job It had it's moments
Only problem with that is that it was made by Channel 4 not an Irish channel.

You can almost see Dermot Morgan trying not to laugh, which is why she almost cracked.
Dermot also pulled the door instead of pushing it. The whole scene started to go wrong there, but they managed to hold it together. Brilliant.
@@Onmysheet Notice how the footage is slowed down slightly as well - presumably Dermot corpsed (for want of a better phrase) afterwards
