Got some going last month....used a cherry pitter that did 6 at a time before freezing them.

Congrats on the grandchild! Was looking forward to your feedback on this one, I plan on getting a batch going soon.
How would you rank this among all the wines you've made?

Just picked 7 lbs of cherries i put them in a strainer pot add a little over 2 gallons water, as it was heating up started smashing by hand all cherries, heated water just to a boil, cut heat add 3 lbs white sugar and 2 lbs brown sugar! Remove and strain all fruit skin and seeds!
I used red star bread yeast instead of wine yeast!
I let it ferment for 7 days tasting dang good then added another cup of white sugar!
Gonna let it finish fermenting then i will transfer to a secondary and thinking about adding some oak chips to the secondary!
I could add lemon and black tea never thought about that!
    Any thoughts on this?
    Thanks for the video

Just curious, you started with 6 lbs of fresh cherries what was the weight of pitted cherries? Would 5 lbs of frozen be equivalent? Thank you for making these wonderful videos.

Sorry, the weight of the pitts was not a consideration in the making of this video.

I use frozen fruit alot for making wine in general 4lbs to a gallon and prefer lalvin k1-v1116 yeast for fruit wines and ec-1118 for grape wines.

Can I add the black tea after fermentation for more tannins ?

Do you use the campden tablets and tannin with any of the cherry wines?

    • @DIYFermentation

This channel prefers to use more natural alternatives instead.

I notice he didn't use the bread yeast in the tea bag boil/ yeast nutrients

    • @DIYFermentation
      @DIYFermentation  ปีที่แล้ว +3

This video was shot prior to my learning about homemade yeast nutrients, and I'm not really a big tannin fan for all my wines.

It's MUST not MUSK. That's been driving me crazy for years. Must is wine before fermentation (simplified), where musk is a smell, normally associated with deer and their mating habits.

only boil 1 quart of water = wait time cut in half 🤷‍♂️

I have 13 8oz bottles of pure cherry juice, may make a wine, and I don’t like it, it will become brandy.
