  • This is an original film that would have been shown by HOUGH dealers to sell the H65 Payloader.
This film shows the specifications and features of the H65 and how it can help the customer be more productive. The H65 was one of the early small articulated loaders. A much better design than a rear steering axle.
HOUGH equipment was sold by dealers of International Harvester construction equipment. And HOUGH was a wholly owned subsidiary of International Harvester since 1953.
Frank G. Hough, the inventor of the hydraulic tractor shovel coined the "Payloader" name for his product. The Frank G. Hough company produced the Payloader as well as other unique products that lead the way in the use of hydraulics in construction equipment. After International Harvester purchased the Frank G. Hough company in 1953 it continued to operate as a wholly owned subsidiary ran by Frank Hough himself until his retirement. Eventually HOUGH division was merged with the IH Construction Division and the 500 series IH loaders were designed.
These loaders competed with Caterpillar, Trojan, Massey Ferguson, Lorain, Allis Chalmers, Michigan, and others.

The good old days, IH was king of the hill, and machines would roll coal! Sweet!

This video does a great explanation as to why an operator wants the boom mounted on the cab. Weirdly, the rear cab won out the industry despite operator polls with the exception of new, smaller loaders having the cab front mounted for the very reasons mentioned in this video. That said, as a guy who has rescued a Hough H80B and put it back into proper service, these machines are worlds less money than new machines and do every bit as much work for the horsepower for hundreds of thousands less money. Buy one of these machines for less than 20K, pimp the machine out with service including lineboring new pins and you're set for the next 8,000 machine hours!

It sucks when the entire cab articulates with the bucket. It makes a long day longer.
