  • Which leash or harness is best for my dog!? Do No-Pull leashes and harnesses actually work?! Come along while I demonstrate my 2 favorite No Pull Leash/Harness options. And experience the circus that is my two favorite furry friends, my German shorthaired pointers, Berkley and Bentley.

    I like the Sporn no pull harness. The one with the mesh chest section, and the leads that constrict on the chest. The trick is to beat your dog to the punch, and give a sharp pull right before, and I mean a fraction of a second, they hit the end.
    My 1st, lab/husky, only hit the end once. My 2nd, sheperd/lab/terrier, needed an occassional reminder. My 8 month, border/aussie/heeler/hangin tree, needs an occassional reminder, but is responding well. Most of our walks require loose, one-finger contact on the leash. My lab/husky doesn't require a leash anymore. It's mostly for show, and when we go into stores. He's 12, been off leash since he was about 8 months.

    Nice video. My 50# rescue likes to dart and pull, and I have had limited success with other types of no-pull harnesses. I'm going to give the Weiss a try,.

    Thanks for the recommendations! we are still in search for a great harness for our 8 month old GSP. did you get the medium or the large for your boys ? And you trying to get the harness on your pups made me feel a lot better. I thought I was the only one who experienced absolute chaos lol

    Hi! I have two questions. First question: whats the difference between a no pull harness and a regular harness? Second question: is the Carhartt harness any good? I think they sell it on Amazon!? lastly your my favorite TH-camr!!!!!

    • @Tammy_Bashore
      @Tammy_Bashore  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're so sweet!!! Theres alot of different harnesses - so I don't know much about the regular harnesses, but from looking at them it is how the leash is attached and how it fits the chest. I've never tried the Carhartt harness so I have no idea!

    My 30 lb dog does so well on a gentle leader the one that pulls their nose.. are there cons to that? I love the look of the aesthetic wild one harnesses but I was told they do not work for pulling.

    • @Tammy_Bashore

      I've never actually used one like that, so I'm not sure I could say if there are any cons. Sorry about that!

    Did you try the Blue-9 Balance Harness? Similar to the Freedom, but wont hurt your dog behind the legs

    Tools aren't going to solve the problem on their own. No matter what you're using, you need to teach attention keeping and impulse control. Then teach them how to walk properly with whatever tool you're using. You can't expect them to know what to do just because they got a new harness. Yes, the front clip can help deter pulling but they don't actually understand why they need to stop pulling. Check out Upstate Canine Academy.

    I think a prong collar is best option. Like you say there isn’t a harness that works even close to 100%

    • @Tammy_Bashore
      @Tammy_Bashore  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not a fan of prong collars personally - but whatever works for you and your pup is great!

    Here's a novel idea, train your dog not to pull. I had a Rottie x Doberman freak, 30 inches at the shoulder and over 140 pounds. You could take him out on a piece of string. He didn't pull, just walked at my side. You have to put the work in but it's well worth it and lasts a lifetime.

      @@Tammy_Bashore It would have taken way less time. To put a halter on the dogs if they weren't jumping all over. I realize they are hunting dogs.And to bad you didn't take the dogs for a quick walk so we could see how and if they work ,,Have a great day, TY for your video .

      The dogs being silly is part of who I am and the types of videos I make. If you want stuffy heavily trained content, I am not your gal as I am not a dog trainer. Just a dog owner helping other dog owners with what I’ve learned.
