    For reference, the current exchange rate is $1USD = 1,320won~ So my 400,000won goshiwon is roughly $300 for 15 nights
    If you have found my korea travel videos helpful, i would greatly appreciate you giving this video a super thanks or supporting me through www.buymeacoffee.com/itsawkwardamy 💕

      Good prices, but man are some goshiwons rough. True story. I once moved into a goshiwon to try it out. Chilled in there for a few hours and I was like screw this I'm out. So basically, right after I entered the room, my neighbor went to the toilet and took a fat shit like diarrhea or something, and I could not only hear the sounds of their butt cheeks clapping, I could also smell it in the small and cramped ass room. Their toilet and ass is pretty much next to your head if you lie on the bed separated by the thin wall, it's really just a partition and not an actual wall and you can hear someone whisper in the next room. There was only a small ventilation window in the room (like in a toilet) not even a full sized window in the room I booked, and it was located near the ceiling, hard to reach and open, so the smell could not get out. I immediately left to book a motel instead. You hear moaning in motels but that's better than being woken by explosive fart sounds and the aroma of diarrhea.
      Also Amy, is it just me or is your tag Awkard Amy instead of Awkward Amy

      HAHA omg 😂 thanks for pointing that out! #awkarddd
      And yes! Goshiwons are really dependent on your comfort level. Luckily, I didnt have to deal with those kinds of neighbors or maybe the sound insulation was better at the goshiwon i stayed at

    Hi Amy, this was such an informative video! Thank for all the pro tips. It really helps to hear from someone who has done it all and that too recently because things seem to have changed so much the last few years. Can I ask how you found a hostel to stay at-through goshipages? Also, would you recommend booking an airbnb instead? Do you think a week instead of two weeks would be enough time to look around and book a place?

    • @AdventuresofAwkwardAmy
      @AdventuresofAwkwardAmy  หลายเดือนก่อน

      goshiwons are definitely not for everyone, so i would recommend airbnbs if you like having more space. Goshipages is just for goshiwons, hostelworld and booking.com are good resources for booking hostels. If youre looking for a goshiwon, i think a week is plenty of time as long as you use your time wisely. I toured places for two days before moving in on the third so the process is pretty quick

    Hello! I'm so glad I chanced upon this video of yours as I'm intending to study in Korea from June onwards and I'll be in Korea from May onwards - your tips really helped to help find a goshiwon and i'll most likely do the same as what you did! Just wondering though, are the rooms almost usually available after you head down to check out the place? For me I have this anxiety of what if I'm intending to head down by then and they dont have any rooms available ;;

      @AdventuresofAwkwardAmy  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Double check the availability before visiting the goshiwons! They usually will tell you the next available date and know if theyll have rooms available if you have a move in date in mind

    I personally may not stay @ goshiwon cause space is very small THO that is heck of cheap! Last 2x time in Korea i stayed at an officetel little bigger, still small... and then an airbnb apartment where a smaller one in my preferred area would have cost me $800-1000 a month. My "bigger" one for two persons cost $1500/mo. So $300/mo for goshiwon is sounding pretty great for a solo traveler! Thanks for valuable info Amy!

      Yes! The space is definitely not for everyone but i feel like in general, it’s hard to find budget accommodations that provide privacy for solo travelers. Some hostels might offer private rooms but it’s still going to be like $30-$35 minimum/night. Same for renting a room off airbnb, there’s so many added fees these days - it’s crazy. Do you mind sharing how much your officetel had cost?

      @liy7997 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The officetel I stayed in was actually rented through a friend so price not reflecting true market price THO, since I like to stay in the Jamsil area close to Olympic Park, Olympic Stadium, Asian Park, Han River access Lotte World area... where there is great walking and scenic areas, I know there are tons of reasonably priced officetels and apartments for rent. Lots of inventory Amy !

    I would rather stay in a goshiwon than a hostel dorm.

    thanks that was helpful. are there any other methods beside paying with cash ? and are there any contracts to make ?

    • @AdventuresofAwkwardAmy
      @AdventuresofAwkwardAmy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      as mentioned, most of the places i visited preferred bank transfer. And there is a contract agreement that I had signed on the day of move in

      Hmm maybe because its a smaller town? You might have to search through naver or through local means to find a suitable place 🙁
