    Thank you for this video. I just bought a log cabin, a beautiful home. My wife wanted it more than I and I am beginning to see just how expensive these are to maintain. Happy wife happy life. Thank you sir.

    Hey man, love the channel. Just bought a log home and the previous owner just used regular house paint on the outside. Would the same products and process apply if I wanted to strip the paint and stain it instead? Thanks!

      Not sure if "strip it" works on paint. Are you sure it's paint or a solid color stain? Call Perma Chink and ask if their product will work on paint. Good luck on your project. Thanks for watching and please Subscribe 🍀🍺

    Can you apply stain to pre-existing stain logs..gave them a wash and it came off..but cabin has siding on upper sections, washed those and most of it came off..can i stain on top of that??

      Yes, but there are some things to consider. One, make sure you use the same brand and type. Meaning if it's an oil based stain, you need to go back with an oil based. Two, the bare spots will not stain out as dark, those spots will be lighter. But yes, I stain on top of old stain all the time after you give it a good wash. I hope this will help you. @@TheSawDustDudeThe stain on my log house is the original from 1981 so it’s peeling pretty good. To the point where if I scratch with my finger nail, some of the wood underneath comes off as well because it’s slightly mushy and dried out. Would you recommend sanding with an 80 grit? I’m planning on using solid stain so if sanding isn’t perfect, it shouldn’t show through right? Aka lighter and darker patches.

    what's happens if the stripper stays on to long and leaves runs? How do you remove it? Thank you

    • @TheSawDustDude
      @TheSawDustDude  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Strip It solution can be removed with a power washer. If you have line marks (runs) on the you could try to lightly sand then out. Don't stand in one spot, you have to feather it out. If you sand in a small area, it will be noticable when you apply the stain. Thanks for watching and please Subscribe 🍀🍺

    What do you do if you see a leak when your on the inside?

    • @TheSawDustDude
      @TheSawDustDude  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching. Now, leaks can be tricky. Does it happen all the time or just wind and rain? Is it near a window. Water can enter at one point from outside, run down a log and come out a foot from where it entered. Look for butt joints, checks or corners where there is no caulk or caulk that is failing. Caulk out spots and see if that helps. If you only caulk on the inside, that does not stop the problem. Only creates more. Let me know how it goes. Thanks again for watching!

    The cabin supply store in Noblesville IN said never power wash logs. Garden hose ok. But power washing would penetrate water too deep into the logs and into chinking. ….. 🤔

      Not to debate your local guy or put them down in anyway at all. It all boils down to moisture content. Most stains recommend 19% or below. Yes when you use a chemical based stain remover over media blasting you are aggressive with the power washer. But in the case of washing and removing stain, using a power washer on a vertical wall, the water runs off quickly. And two, the sun dries the log out within a day. Always use a moisture meter to ensure the percentage of water in the log before staining. Based on my training with Perma Chink and years of experience, I'll stick with the method in the video. Thanks for letting me know about your delima and good luck on your project. You and I want the same thing, a great looking end result. Thanks for watching and please Subscribe 🍀🍺

    Is Strip-It safe to use if I'm on well water? In other words, is there any risk of contamination from any chemicals in the StripIt product that would make its way into my well water - in which case would media-blasting of some sort (glass or sand) be the preferred approach to get rid of old stain?

    • @TheSawDustDude
      @TheSawDustDude  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not totally sure about that. My experience, Strip It doesn't harm the plants around the house when I've used it. I would imagine by time it made it down to the water table it would not impact the safety of your water. I'm looking into other forms of media blasting right now. Most use walnut, corn husk, or something softer than sand or glass, not so aggressive. If you have any concerns about Strip It, call Perma Chink and check with them. Thanks for watching and good luck on your project 🍀🍺. Please Subscribe my friend 🍺

    Researching best method to strip stain off our cabin. I thought using a pressure washer is a no no? I see other guys grinding or Media blasting. Very time-consuming I like this method better. I understand and know how to use a pressure washer and I know you have to be careful to not leave marks

      If you use Strip It from Perna Chink, you use a power washer to remove. It can leave logs a little fuzzy, so you may want to do some light sanding. Thanks for watching and please Subscribe 🍀🍺
