  • this 1958 vw bug that was towed from california to newHampshire 35 years ago, at the time they were trying to get it switched over from 6 volt to 12 volt but never got it to work, after leaving it in the woods for 35 years we came along and dragged it out. now lets see what the weather, critters and time has left for us to work with.

I was 16 yrs old back in 95 mowing lawns, when one of the houses I was mowing was preparing to junk a 70 bug. The lady told me the wrecker was giving her $200 to haul it away. I told her I would mow her lawn for the rest of the season for free if she gave it to me. She agreed so I through what gas I had left in my gas can for the lawn mower, spent 15 minutes tinkering and she fired up. After I got home I told my dad and we went back to drive it home. I miss that bug. No heat and no a/c, but those seats were infamous for robbing my friends of the change in their pockets which came in handy when I needed 85 cents to get home and it didn't matter where I was hahaha. I never did clock the mpg on her but it never mattered anyway.

My 66 got 22 mpg about the same MPG as my 5.7L Hemi Challenger when I drive it in eco mode. Back in the early 70s I remember a early 70's gas war with 22 cents a gallon gas and did a fill up from an almost empty tank for $2.

This is an absolute labor of love, and I hope it gets restored. I am wildly curious if it is possible. I believe at several points of this video, my allergies responded with histamines from just seeing and imagining all that dust, dander and urine / feces. I cannot wait to see more.

This VW was like a time capsule and what also is interesting is that when I viewed this video there were over 260 Thousand views... It's amazing the VW had all the glass to it, not broken also... That sure was a plus! Hope we get to see some of the repairs or reconstruction of this Beetle... It's so cool that you would take the time to restore this Bug after all these years of it just sitting and rotting away... Also hope to see the finished product for sure...! Love your channel....! I just subscribed...

I always remember, when I see something like this: That car used to be brand new. Once upon a time, someone drove it off a dealer's lot for the first time. Who? Where did he go in it? There's a lot of history there. I'd love to see it running again.

I have sold cars for many years .. and I remember selling one of the last old Mini to an old lady . It was in 1997. When I was in the area again last year I thought : Let's drive through the street where she used to live : and there it was , 25 years later , in the same spot as it used to be . You feel so strange at that moment , it's the same like seeing someone back after 25 years . And I really understand Joe .. the first owner , the conversations held in , the last drive before stalling it in the forest .. what a stories this car could tell ! Love it .

I love these old bugs!!! I love the design of the engine, it is absolute genius the way they built them, without the need for water for cooling, extremely reliable and perfect for desert weather. I miss my '72 Super Beetle, I wish I had taken the money and the car instead of having it totaled. It sold at the auction for $1,300, it had side damage but I had put new tires, new front struts, oil pump and filter (aftermarket) and I was in the process of finding a way to fix the fuel gauge. I loved working on it, I loved driving it, I loved everything about my bug and now I wish I had another one and the time to fix it!!!
