At 18:30, when you have the engine revving, there is a small sticker on a line that looks like it has air pushing it. The air appears to blow the sticker harder as revs increase. I don't think there are any lines that should be putting air in that area, and the fan wouldn't cause air to blow in relation to engine revs like that, and vibration generally wouldn't cause a sticker to vibrate in a way that it looks like air is blowing it.

I have heard this exact thing with a bad exhaust manifold gasket or loose bolts and or cracked manifold . The air escaping between the metal exhaust gasket makes that noise as if you were blowing a blade of grass high pitched squeal. We have had this noise in our shop and was a couple of loose bolts that caused the gasket to blow out. It’s worth a shot to look into the exhaust manifold/ gasket area 😊

The cat is probably plugged causing too much back pressure in the exhaust system. You could pull the upstream oxygen sensor out and hook up a back pressure gage. The gage should be no more than 1 psi at idle. I'm going to say once you hit the gas it will peg the gage out. Have had KIa Souls that make the same noise at work.

Randy, look at 19:20, you can see the retaining clip is way down the brake booster vacuum hose. Put it in the right spot so it seals up. I'll bet the whistling is vacuum leaking from that hose, cause there's a lot of vaccum that runs in that hose for the booster.

Randy. My wife noticed it. There is a tag on a hose on the back of the engine driver's side. When the engine revs that tag blows in the wind. You have an exhaust leak on the back of the engine. That oxygen sensor might be loose or it blew the exhaust manifold gasket.
My guess is the underlying cause is a partially restricted converter.

    • @patriotgarage

@@jefnf vacuum leaks don't blow parts tags like a flag. Lean could also be exhaust getting out before the sensor.

  • @Ryanvd1

I wonder if all it is, is a blown exhaust manifold gasket. It would explain the sound if air is shooting through a torn spot on the gasket. It sounds super similar to the sound you'd make as a kid if you put a thick blade of grass between your thumbs and blow through it. Kinda the same concept too

  • @camarokurt

I doubt this is the same, but worth checking. I had a Ford Escort ZX2 5 speed that made a similar sound, but it wasn't consistent like yours, it was random. Anyways, it was the crank case breather filter. It was partially clogged and it would whistle periodically. I replaced it and it never whistled again.

My guess it's the torque converter. Inside the torque converter is a lock up clutch that can wear out and make that noise. That's what happened to my wife's car. After finding out how much the parts and labor would cost, we traded in the car.

The 2014 Kia Forte EX has the 2.0L Theta II GDI (direct injection) engine. It might be under several recalls. That engine is notorious for using oil, and if the intake isn't serviced regularly the intake valves will carbon up and leak. Check the oil for sparkles... Some Theta II engines had oil gallery issues which ends up running the main crank bearings dry - it doesn't look like yours has that issue yet because your block hasn't developed an extra port caused by a thrown rod...

He had 81,000 miles on his when his went out and I only had 20,500 miles on mine. The GDI engines are known for really building up a lot of carbon. Also check the PCV valve on there to see if it could be clogged also. The only way you can clean the valves in that car is if you spray throttle body and air intake cleaner into the throttle body have someone rev the car to 2000 RPMs spray it in a little at a time.Injector cleaners won't do it that will only clean the injectors on these cars because the valves are above the injectors.

Should just be loose manifold bolts or a clogged cat. Check both of them and if you need to tighten the bolts, do. It could fix the issue.

Cat converter is most likely clogged hence the o2 sensor code and that pressure probably blew out the exhaust manifold gasket causing a leak, i guarantee its either clogged cat, cracked manifold, or blown out exhaust manifold gasket, run the car, have someone rev it and put your hand over the back of the engine above the exhaust manifold you will probably feel some air coming out. Good luck!

It's a metal on metal sound, that changes with RPM? A bolt has backed out and hitting the block or something like that between the engine and trans? Doesn't sound like a vac. leak to me at all?

Check the high pressure fuel pump on top of valve cover..the fuel pump is spring action and the lobe from the camshaft pushes against the spring on the high pressure pump the high pressure fuel goes bad on kia a lot

It's a brown head gasket on one of the cylinders but the leak it's to the outside not the coolant system or the oil system. I usually find this on 6.7 Cummins where the lake is between the exhaust gasket and the turbo. Since this year does not have a turbo The only source of such pressure on pressing the throttle It's the head gasket.

Hey Randy I noticed on the back of the engine on the firewall is a white piece of paper every time you rub it up that piece of paper would move

I definitely saw that tag near the firewall moving when you would Revit up and that noise was happening. It Has to be right around there.

Yeah Randy I agree with @Jason C , the air appears to blow the white sticker from the English whole revving

You are close with a vacuum leak. With it running pull the oil cap. If there is a lot of pressure in the crankcase the Pcv system has failed. The noise you are hearing is air being forced out around the crankshaft main seals. A new valve cover will fix it

Hey Randy, us newfies here in Newfoundland Canada use a piece of garden hose to locate a sound. Put a ear plug in one ear, hold hose to other ear and while Jessica revs engine move hose around to certain areas to locate noise easier. Hope this helps. Big fan by the way.

It's hard to tell on video but could it be coming from inside the transmission? You said it was .ore that area of the engine. Maybe something around the torque converter cracked and expanding/rubbing when it turns faster?

A very good possibility is the crank pully the dampener if that is the kind of pulley with the rubber in between the metal if that becomes dried out or cracked it actually slips between the metal causing a shrieking noise just a thought

  • @PaddyBoy644

If it was a vacuum leak the best way would of been to spray something flammable, the soapy water won’t really do anything unless there’s pressure coming out which it would bubble.

  • @Vicness82

19:17 the vacuum hose which runs from the engine to the brake booster, the clamp is the crimping the wrong part of the hose

I work at Hyundai and used to work at Kia, if that’s the 2.0 it could be the main bearings 😮 or maybe an intake leak or the brake booster I honestly have no idea
