You need to install a shop exhaust fan or open the doors prior to working on the cars. You are constantly breathing in exhaust fumes little by little which can build up over the years. You always wait until you start feeling light headed before opening the door which is bad for you. We want you around for a long time, so take better care of yourself. 👍
@@SilentServiceCode are you a medical specialist? Prolonged exposure, such as what happens to people from second hand smoke does affect your lungs over the years.
It does, in fact, build up over the years. That's how you get cancer even if you never smoke. Works the same with the fragrant products in your home. Google Multiple Chemical Syndrome. "is curing cancer a sustainable business model?" - Goldman Sachs analyst.
@@SilentServiceCode I actually looked it up. It takes a full day to get out of your system, and prolonged exposure can make you nauseated, feverish, and having flu like symptoms. I like Mike's channel, and just think he should be careful is all.
We have a Kia Soul Exclaim purchased brand new back in 2014. This came with a full sunroof, folding mirrors, heated steering wheel, power drivers seat, tilt and extension steering wheel, GPS and a fantastic HD stereo/satellite radio, etc.. Just a really nice small vehicle that is an all around great car. It now has well over 100K miles on it and has been 100% reliable with only one problem. The cancel button on the cruise control stopped working at around 30K miles. We took it to the Kia dealership that we purchased it from and it was covered by the warranty. It gets 27-28 mpg in the city regularly and on a long trips the average is 38-39 mpg. We took a trip to Texas a few years ago and we got 41+ mpg!! So many people say that Kia's are junk, and yes with the earlier models (90's and early 2000's) I would agree that they were less then perfect. But we have owned several since the late 1990's and have really enjoyed them. Someone will buy that little car and love it guaranteed!! Thanks for the videos you do Randy. I really enjoy them.
One of the reasons I love this channel is your honesty how many youtubers would say about the money they made and lost Randy santa and Mike your all stars i know MWM wasn't in the video but I could never leave him out thank you for another great video
easy to clean the catylitac converter. you socket with 5galon bucket full of desil over night then the next day you wash it from the in side with dish washing sope and let dry for one day it will comeback to the new condition 90%
Put a foul plug extension on the o2 sensor and it will trick the computer. The plug is the same thing you can use if you have value stem problems to keep the spark plug from oil fouling
Randy, if you’re going to be a regular dealer, fix the cat and the O2 sensor don’t do the stereo typical defeat the emissions controls to save a buck. The reason somebody got rid of the car is the labor and the cat would be running about $2200- $2400. Some people don’t have that kind of money upfront when I was a service advisor at an independent shop we told people they needed catalytic converter’s and they decided to take the car without fixing the cat and trade the car in because they could afford car payments, but not the catalytic converter pretty common issue. Again fix the car right don’t Mickey Mouse it that’s what gives dealers and technicians bad names.
Randy I'm an British subscriber to your channel and watch every video but what I did notice that in your garage you have a English flag which is nice to see so thanks for that and keep the videos coming thanks from the United Kingdom ❤
Aftermarket Cats would be $400. This car is a total win. Do change the oil. The 2.0 and 2.4 engines must have the maintenance done on time if not early. No one rebuilds them when they fail because of how bad things go when they fail. The 1.6 turbo is the best engine they build and has the most power. Kia and Hyundai are the most under rated cars right now for the money
I am glad it was fixed so easy. If this was a KIA for the Korean market, there would be a button in the car to retract those mirrors while driving. That feature is for use on tight streets where you might whack the mirrors off if they were extended
Great Video Randy. The clogged CAT repair was a surprise. I know you aren't going to keep it, but make a good profit on it instead. There's nothing wrong in making some money to live on.
Present a problem on TH-cam and the repair knowledge will follow. I'm glad I don't have to decide which vehicle to keep because my yard would be full of them just like yours would be. Thank you both for another wonderful video.
Geez Louise Randy! You got the deal of the year for sure! I'd be super hard pressed to find a car with a clean title, cold AC, built within the last 10 years, running & driving, AND 30-40 MPG for only 2 grand! Goes to show that screaming deals like this do exist. You just gotta give the cars at these auctions a chance to change your mind!
Randy , fantastic that the car is fixed, you will save so much money keeping the kia , just on fuel. I think you beat up 4 pot 2 litre cars too much, they can be great great cars, if you live in UK having a V8 or V12 that s your daily driver means you earn a lot as fuel prices are so high....
Where I lived there was emissions tests, so no way could I empty out the cat. But MagnaFlow makes a universal for under $100. So when the exhaust place wanted a grand to replace mine, I had the universal put on in its place for under $200.
Given the low miles, the bigger question is why the cat failed. Is it an oil burner that is flowing a lot of oil through the exhaust? Did it run excessively rich at one point? Did it have a misfire that went unrepaired and shot unburnt fuel through it? They usually don't just go bad by themselves. In fact, I have a 428k mile Nissan that still has it's original cat and exhaust on it.
@Autoauctionrebuilds In the past I had 3 of my 4 o2 sensors that were bad. I grabbed a small container and filled it up with some Chevron fuel system cleaner with Techron and put 3 of the o2 sensors tip in the fuel system cleaner over night. I let them dry out the next morning and knocked all of the carbon deposits loose and reinstalled them and cleared my codes. I owned the car for nearly another 2yrs and the codes stayed clear the entire time. It was a very cheap way to address an o2 sensor issue. The car was a 99 Infiniti I30 with 200k+ miles on it.
In your previous video, you mentioned the nails-on-a-chalkboard sound. I almost did that in high school with Solomon's encouragement. He said that if he ever had a son, he would name him Neo after Keanu Reeves ' character in The Matrix.
I was always told to never use cruise control in the rain as it can cause you to crash if you hit puddles as the car could lose traction and cause you to veer off the road. Great car
Randy .....good save! I had a cat go out on my hyundia too and found some cat cleaner that cleaned it out ! And that was 5 years ago in my xg350 still runs like anew car!!!
Hey Randy! Happy Cinco de Mayo!! 🌮🎉👍 IT'S TACO TIME!!!! 😃 Also, if you use Blue Devil Engine And Fuel System treatment it'll keep the Catalytic Converter from clogging again.
I guessed catalytic converter just by the noise! I once owned an 03 Chevy Impala that had that happen.. Got to where I couldn't go over 50 mph, pedal to the metal. Same squealing noise when accelerating. The cat was replaced with a straight pipe and it ran like new.. No more noise. Ended up with a blown head gasket shortly after and can't help but think it was caused partially by the massive pressure buildup in the exhaust.
hey randy glad it worked out !!!! I knew it !!!!! i was hoping that you were going to try to clean the cat by dumping thinner in it to see if that would work .
Hey Randy, maybe you can do a video on seeing what Carmax would offer you for it? Even if you don’t sell it to them, would be curious to know what they would offer. Either way it was a score!👍🏻😀
I see you’ve still got the Harley on hand. I thought you were selling that. The Kia is a nice car. Very nicely equipped. I can see why you have people lining up to buy it!
I've been a Jaguar Land Rover Master Technician for almost 30 years here in the UK, I told you it was the catalytic converter blocked!!! I've seen this happen so many times, and people do get rid of perfectly good cars just because of a blockage!!!
Randy, you should keep this for a few years. This will get you back and forth to Terre Haute as long as you don't have to haul anything for EL CHEAPO! Drive it for a few years and you'll still be able to get your money back.
I figured as much. Ive heard that sound a few times with cars with clogged cats. Though most repairs Ive seen for that is to just hack off the bad cat and straight pipe the gap lol.
If the upstream was bad and it was driven that way for a long time with the wrong a/f ratio it would prob damage the cat. The platinum and palladium in the cat is very very valuable. I wouldn't throw any part of it in the trash. You can't get a used one it's illegal but you can shop for one for the best price from some place like Rock Auto and you can turn the old cat into the recycle people for $75-$100-$150 or maybe more to defray the cost of the new one. Speaking of testing people used to install "test" pipes when they "tested" which was a simple pipe that bypassed the cat.
Stuff like this will make more $$ any day than the European luxury cars...they are money pits.

Put a foul plug extension on the o2 sensor and it will trick the computer. The plug is the same thing you can use if you have value stem problems to keep the spark plug from oil fouling

With only half the converter it will get better mileage once the O2 sensor is replaced it will get 40+ mpg
11:52 Imagine the engine pushing exhaust through the catalytic converter with all that back pressure. I took mine off. Much more power acceleration.
WIN! But you shouldn't sell it for anything less than $6,000. Still fair. Good job.

rough thing about it is it’s gonna be hard to sell a older model kia for a profit with the ongoing kia boyz theft going on
